Learning to Fly

Folks,
Most of the radios have Heli/Aero model types and some even have options for gliders. Then there are options for wing types.
Can we not fly a plane if it has been setup as a Heli or a Glider? So how do these options help the flyer? Any idea?

regards
Pankaj

I fly my HK EPP FPV on the heli setup. It gives me the option to set the throttle curve.  Wink

The difference between the heli and acro setup is basically of mixes available and a few other mennu options.

Yep, mostly mixes.  For example, you may see flaperon and elevon mixes for an aircraft model, while you will see throttle curve, pitch curve etc if you choose a heli model.

Default actions/functions assigned to switches may also change depending on the model chosen.

Heli=Diff parts flying together in close formation

Basic difference is that a heli requires all 3 servos on the swash to move together which is done by collective pitch mixing on the other hand the Plane requires all these servos to move individually and then a plane menu will give you other options like the delta wing, flapperon etc. which are only used on planes and not on heli's although you can use a heli model to fly a plane if you change the swash type to 1 servo instead of 3 servo's (120 degrees) but I would rather have a plane type selected to keep things simple and it also looks good on the screen (Spektrum DX7 even tell's you with an image if you are flying a plane or a Heli  Wink)

Practice, and only Practice will make you perfect

actually, ther is no simple answer to this, you neeed to read up on mixes, gyros, eccpm, etc. like anwar bhai said, pretty much the mixes, however , there are radios available which changes the throw depending on the forward speed (This aspect is done at the airplane and not the radio) this is called the variable gain control, there are these controls that lock and aux controls take over when the wing geometry changes in a variable geometry airplanes (Including high end RC Planes). ( for example Spoilers take over for roll control instead of aileron) so there are things happenning at the airplane / heli by the means of  gyro and other elctronic means and other mixes happens at the radio level.

Bottom line is, it is the way the pilot reacts with airplane / heptr keeping within the airplane and the pilot limit, actually pilot is the limiting factor today, his/her perception of an error and error correction time is to the order of 1-1.2 secs (Which is very large) gyros and gps error correction happens at 10000 times a second. that is the difference.

Learning to Fly

OK, so its all about mixes to control the way model flies. I understand the logic given by Hellyflyer on the way servos are mixed in Heli as opposed to Airplane. But then do we still need a type for Glider? How mixing is different in Gliders as opposed to Airplane?
