Hello all,
My only radio currently is the RCB6i. One of the reasons for buying this was that the radio uses 4 AA batteries, better than it's 8 battery competitors. However, I simply hate these NiMH batteries,as they take long time to charge, and also have a very short life span.
So I contacted the RCB guys asking them if I could fit a LiPo in these, as the Tx settings also allow the voltage alarm to be set for lipos.
they told me that I need to fit a low discharge safety protected lipo, else if I fit a high discharge lipo, it will burn the TX electronics.

This is something I really don't understand. All the electronics I am aware of, all of them have a certain characteristic impedance, so they will draw only the required amount of current as long as you keep the voltage under check. It's obvious from Ohm's Law, unless you have a short somewhere, the current draw will be same, as long as voltage is same. So Protected vs Unprotected lipos shouldn't matter, unless of course you are worried about the low cut off of a lipo cell. Since RCB6i displays the voltage of the cell on screen, this is not an issue. Also, one can fit a LV Alarm with the battery inside the Tx battery cabinet.

I am curious what am I missing here? Can anyone shade some light upon this? Whether or not safety protected lipos are mandatory for TX's?

Regards,
Dipanjan

Sheer nonsense.
Who told you this?
Please report him BY NAME to RCB owner.
I'm sure you'll get a proper answer.

I don't know if you've seen my posts regarding tx lipos. Pl look them up. I'll try to send links...

Live your dream and wear your passion

The continuous current that can be drawn out of a 1000mah 20C lipo is
20000mAh or 20A while a lipo designed for tx use say, for 1000mAh 1C lipo, a maximum current of 1000mAh or 1A can be drawn. However, what matters is the load connected at the output of the regulator IC. For a LM7805 a maximum of 10ohm load can be connected. Since the load is constant, even a battery rated 20C can be used. Also such voltage regulators employ internal current limiting feature.

Since this post, I have been using 2S 500 mAh Lipos with the tx, there has been no problem till now, and I hope there won't be any. Only a probable cause might be the  wires directly soldered to the circuit boards, which might break after repeated plugging and unplugging of the battery. For that, I have secured the wire with some hot glue to the plastic chassis, so that the soldered point doesn't move too much. Cheesy
