Title: Repairing the burnt FS-R6B
Post by: santhosh-r on May 03, 2014, 01:56:05 PM
I had a burnt FS-CT6B rx , which was damaged by reverse polarity during interfacing to my arduino.
I was sure that the voltage regulator must have blown.I started taking apart my Rx and investigated.

When measuring the input and output voltages of the LDO it was 4.99V and 1.22V ,of which the output should be 3.3V .

Clearly the LDO is damaged.

The part no. is CA33 and found the datasheet

I had spare 3.3V and 5V LDO at hand ,they were AMS1117-3.3 and AMS1117-5 .

But to my disappointment , the CA33 was SOT-89 and AMS1117-3.3 was SOT-223 also the pinout was different.

I made a simple breakout board for the AMS1117-3.3 to test.

Hooked up the breakout board to the Rx with the burnt chip in place.
And it did work as expected.

Now I need a idea to remove the CA33 and place AMS1117 at its place,
The difficult job was to desolder an SMD part.

I just cut the pins of the CA33 using a nipper and started prying out the chip while heating with the soldering iron.

But the solder pads were damaged.

So made a direct wire connection for the Vin from the input capacitor

Again test the board whether it works ??? .yes it works  ;D.

Now arrest the mechanical motion of the chip by using hot glue.

Put all the components together and again test.

The chip has the silicon die , the small square part in the plastic case.

The Rx was repaired with a  :Rs: 15 replacement and saved  :Rs: 600 for a new Rx.
Also a lesson learnt - experience

I am happy to see that u restore these faulty microelectronics in working condition again..
Myself is still struggling..  :headscratch:

Hey i also burnt up the receiver today. However i burnt the tantalum capacitor at the beginning.I am not able to see the part name as its burnt. Can u tell me what it is?Its the first big yellow one.Right next to the male headers
Thanks
