Title: Sanwa SD-10G vs. JR XG8
Post by: vishalrao on April 08, 2013, 05:09:07 PM
I have Sanwa SD-6G and I'm currently required to upgrade my Tx (moving to multi-rotors) to at least 8 channel one with 2, 3-postion switches. I'm very happy with Sanwa and I'm more inclined towards 10G but JR has built-in telemetry, which is a trump card. I have tried programming  XG6 and I absolutely hate it. It's very complicated. Sanwa is a breeze to program. Moreover, switching to JR would mean either keeping the Sanwa TX or selling it off and changing all my receivers (3 rx-600) to JR. If I'm going for 10G then I can sell my 6G and use the funds to buy 10G, while keeping the receivers.

Looking for some expert advice.

Why dont you go in for the spectrum DX8 then ...spectrum is known for its simplicity ,performance ,and easy to use characteristics ....also includes telemetry ..plus if u low on cash u can opt for the orange receivers which are very good cheap and reliable ...dont go the futaba way if u find jr complicated lol

I have SD10G, one of my most reliable TX, with no booster she can easily touch 3.5 kms and not cringe. only downside is no telemetry.

I have Frsky Telemetry module on my Futaba 8CHG, telemtry is good only if there is voice feedback else it is of less use if you are flying it, if the autopilot is flying it it is a different story, but then if the autopilot is flying it then you will be on video OSD, so there too telemetry is of little use.  However the coolest thing about Frsky telemetry is the module beeps when you hit 50% and 25% mark of the RX feedback, that is cool if you are visually pushing FPV without autopilot.

i flew with JR, it is one of the most trusted radio, let us face it sometime or the other you will need to learn complex programming functions, if you want to further your fun in this hobby. JR has the releiablity of the Sanwa and good telemetry, as good as Frsky.

My verdict, 1. XG11 with the required modules, 2. SD10G

The buggy DSM/DSM2 ?? Compared to rock solid, trouble free FHSS/FASST of Sanwa and Futaba ??

And GC rcpilotacro is so, so correct about the futility of Textual Telemetry, present on most Telemetry Radios. Tell me how many times you could look into the LCD of your TX while flying ?? Even while pressing the Trim Tab, we dont look at the LCD...

I don't feel this is correct, as I have futaba 8FG super and it's very easy to change the settings/model when i compare to other radios on field. I think it's mainly depend if the radio owner have gone through the manual or not.

yes  i do agree manual needs to be read .... but the point is its not necessary to complicate my rout by showing me a road map  when am travelling by air though the destination is the same ...well spectrum does the same n i have used both ...n spectrum offers simplicity

It's again on the individual level, as i feel much comfortable with futaba than any other which i have tried. However i don't think people need to spend lot of time on radio programming after the model is set, as once you do it that's for ever in radio.

Yes that's true  ;D

Thank you so much Shannon, Augustine sir and ujjwaana!

Augustine sir, you are right regarding textual telemetry. What I'm mainly concerned is regarding flight pack voltage and I think you can set audible warning for that in JR. I guess I'll have to strike off Sanwa 10G.

JR XG11 is beyond my budget. And there's cost of extra modules for telemetry too.

How about Aurora 9? Is it better than JR XG8?

I can assure you DSM2 is not buggy because I have been using it since more than 2 years. I fly almost everyday, hence I can say with confidence - it is bullet proof. I mostly fly helis, which have CF frame - even that does not cause any issues. I have even flown it with another DSM2 user simultaneously, no problem.

Currently I am using just the 2 x satellite (no main receiver) on my 450. One of them is the cheapo orange. I have about 180 flights on the machine. No glitches faced till now!

I just love my JR DSX7!

within budget I guess Frsky telemetry module to 9XR with DHTU is not a bad bet, past one year I have flown with them extensively, not an issue
