Title: Suggest budget multi model Surface radio
Post by: mail4ajo on June 08, 2009, 08:47:03 PM
I dont have much knowledge in radios. I want to get a multi model car radio (2 or 3 channel) in a few months. Approx budget is 8K.

My requirements:
1. I currently have 3 models and planning to get a few more down the line. So a min 6 model memory must be available.

2. I must be able to use the radio across each model seamlessly without much effort.

3. Should work with the existing servos (will this work, or am I asking too much?)

4. Should not cost a bomb to get additional receivers as I get newer models

5. Should be easy to use for a newbie

6. I should be able to use it in a race environment with many models around

I checked on the popular spectrum tech. The receivers seem to be quite expensive. :( Will FM synthesized radios work for me? What brands can I look to?

PS: I am posting this query on other forums as well, please excuse if you see it there

I saw some Airtronics stuff when I visited the RC Dhamaka store in Bangalore (http://www.RCDhamaka.com) , you may want to check it out.

Here is the link from RD Dhamaka :  http://www.rcdhamaka.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=89&products_id=226

PS: You do not need to be apologetic about posting information in other forums.  Our whole premise is about co-existance with other sources of information, and promoting what is best for the modeler.

I quite agree the Spektrum Radios are good but the issue with them is the cost of the receivers they cost about half the price of the radio itself.
For surface in my opinion the  traditional FM radios should be better as receivers then become cheaper.

This is a widely used car radio.

BTW, I remember you mentioning that you are a dealer for R2, so will you order anything in that store for Indian clientele or is it some specific items ?  Do you also provide any warranty on their behalf ?

Also, how much would be the average percent increase in prices when items from R2 are offered by you ?  This would give people a good idea of the landed price (i.e. customs duty, shipping costs etc).

We can surely get any product from R2 Hobbies .

The conversion factor from the R2 prices will be approx Rs 90 - 95  = USD $ 1 this includes all duties , taxes and charges for import + our reasonable margin.

Hence if the price of a product is USD 10 the selling price will be around Rs 900/-  till 950/-

Sai

EG : If Ajo is interested we can import this radio for him based on the above our selling price for USD 84 price on R 2 will be around Rs 8,000/-
