RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

Quote
In this segment Steve Kaluf shows the features of the new S.bus System.

Stop cable clutter with the innovative S.Bus system. It uses digital serial data communication technology to transmit control signals between your receiver and servos. A single S.Bus cable can carry signals to as many channels as your transmitter can handle. You no longer have to worry about plugging in the wrong servo to the wrong channel, because each servo knows what channel it is dedicated to in advance.

S.Bus receivers are limited only by the number of channels
your transmitter will handle. Dont have S.Bus servos? No
problem. SBD-1 S.Bus Decoder Cables let you use existing analog and digital servos, too. The Futaba S.Bus system is nothing short of revolutionary and the revolutions just beginning.

• Eliminates clutter
• Easy programming with the SBC-1 Channel Setting Tool, S.Bus receivers or PCLink software
• No receiver channel limits (except by those on your transmitter)
• Plug in battery packs anywhere you wish
• Heavy-duty 20-gauge wire
• SBD-1 decoder cables (sold separately) let you use existing analog and digital servos
• Prevents mismatched servo-channel connections
• S.Bus system accessories make any installation simple

with so much advances in VLSI technology and RFID chips going for as low as 10 cents, I was expecting such a revolutionary changes in the age old Servo signalling system. But this would again take the propriety technology one more step, which has already been fueled by the incompatible 2.4 GHz system.

Anyway, KUDOS to Futaba which is bringing with industrial Radio control technology to R/C flyers, wish they just make then cheaper and more affordable to 'Cattle Class Budget flyer' like me and make club sky safer!

What if you break the battery wire  Grin ? Ya, there is always this 'Centralizing" to a single point of failure  Roll Eyes . But such a devastating crash breaking the wire won't leave anything to control anyway. If you are referring to pre-flight snap, your Pre-flight checks should have saved you unless you are  too grown up for such routine checks!

This is a major step up from RC wiring as we have known it for many many years !  Other manufacturers should follow suit pretty soon.

Now they just need to make sure it can handle some amount of heat Giggle

Earnestly Anwar. If some one coded for Serial/Parallel port or even configured these devices in Linux would understand what goodness USB and Firewire have brought! But the downside would be no cross compatibility of the Rx.

Would at least  these specialized Digi-Servos be inter-op ?

But the downside would be no cross compatibility of the Rx.

Compatibility of the RX with what ?  It looks like the RX has regular servo connections too (8 in this case), in addition to the Sbus connector.

Would at least  these specialized Digi-Servos be inter-op ?

Well, they support regular servos (analog and digital) on the Sbus system, so your existing investments are covered. If someone got the new Sbus capable servos, then he must have got the rest of the Sbus system too; thus there should be no need for making these servos work the old way.  Of course, when one is trying to sell these servos etc, there will be an issue...  hopefully the market uptake would be good enough at the point.
