Hello All,
I have a Spektrum DX7 (the older generation model Mode2 ) bought around 4 years ago. It was working perfectly when i used it back then without any issues after which it was lying unused for quite sometime.Took it out last month and checked it to see if all channels are working.
Here's what I found:

- Throttle channel doesn't transmit and does't seem to be working.
- All other channels are fine : Aileron, Rudder, Elevator etc.
- Even tried hooking it up with couple of simulators like ClearView SE and FMS flight simulator. Used SmartPropoplus joystick software to connect my DX7 to the simulators on my laptop. The throttle channel doesn't work in this scenario as well. It's not recognised at all. All the other channels are fine.

What could be the issue ?  Forum Moderators and other experts (DX7 users) please help me out. Sad . It's an expensive radio and I don't want to junk it yet..Any place I can get it checked for repairs?

from the description you are giving .... every thing works except Throttle, Even on simulator ....

the easiest problem would be...
1. loose wire connector to throttle stick gimbal
2. Throttle Gimbal POT worn out OR wire break

Just open and physically check inside... place inside pics on forum.

Hi,
Thanks for the response. Opened up the radio and checked the throttle wiring connections with multimeter ( Thanks to another forum member for his guidance!). All seems ok. Will upload pics of radio interior ..

cheers

Yes I did with the multimeter. They are working fine. I tried once again with ClearView simulator yestarday and it did work but only for a minute or so and then no response again. Not sure whats the problem.
Will resetting to factory settings help?

Intermittently working throttle leads to suspect the throttle POT. The traces of POT might have worn out. You can buy spare Throttle POT from horizonhobby

do check for any dry solder joints or retouch the joints to see if it helps. Try the resetting thing. Check if you model is under any sort of recall by the company or its software bug needing update.

if that's case connect the multi meter to pot and move throttle stick to show any indications of open circuit.

thanks for all the responses folks. Appreciate it. Unfortunately the situation remains the same. Maybe I need to replace the throttle pot itself. Not sure what i did but it worked for a minute or so yesterday on the simulator but its back to square one now.

Before anything...... Take pic of pot connection desolder it and just connect to another pot and check if it works......
Usually pots don't get worn out that easily.......

There is loose connection since it did work for a minute

Heli=Diff parts flying together in close formation

check in the monitor screen of DX7 to see if it's the pot or anything else. As you have only tried it on a sim it can be a cable fault too.

So check in the monitor to see if you see the dot moving in the screen when you move the throttle stick also test with different models, this will help confirm that the problem is hardware related.

Then you can test the pot with the steps mentioned above.
