Hello,
I and one of my friend want to take part in the SAE Aero Design East'15 competition scheduled from 13th to 15th March'15 at Florida USA.
I am an engineering student from Allahabad. I presented my idea and proposal in college for getting funds. Going US involves huge funds which is beyond our capability. Also, the registration fee is US750$ . My college is ready to give the registration amount only.
Now, I'm stuck at arranging funds for travel/accommodation etc. I've been suggested few ways for arranging the funds but getting into that I'll miss out the precious time for preparing for the competition.
I got to know there are many investors, fund raisers, scholarships, government bodies willing to fund various projects and ideas. If anyone knows any please post it over here. I seriously want to go in this competition and had already worked very hard for this. It is already very disappointing from my college's side and so, I do not want to miss the chance.
Kindly feel free to suggest/recommend me.

@utkarshg13,
Good try, but only two weeks left.
I suppose the minimum cost will be about Rs 3 lacs.
The best sponsors for this kind of expedition are, of course, one's parents!

What is your best payload carrying effort so far?
I guess you must have already managed at least 10kg, as the top five teams last year did better than that.

Otherwise what's the point in spending all that money. Even if your college pays the Rs50k entry fee?

Edit: Afterthought re sponsors. Perhaps Vortex-RC?

sir in this year's rule book 55pounds(25kgs) is the max. permissible AUW. I was thinking instead of having more and more weight why not to gain points by keeping the weight less and carrying out the task more precisely.
I agree that atleast 10kg should be my limit. For which I would increase the weight step by step on my models. also, changing the airfoil if necessary for heavier payloads and ofcourse the electric setup.
Moreover, acc. to weather at Florida during those days I'lll try to replicate and practice as much as possible over here.

@utkashg13,
As far as i can make out, the score in Regular Class will be based on Payload carried, and not on ratio of Payload to AUW.
Rule 4.6.1 says
The Final Regular Class Flight Score shall comprise of total weights lifted, Max Payload Prediction Bonus and Total Penalty deduction

The issue of practice will come only after deciding the entry/travel costs.

The first question is:
Has reasonable competitiveness been established?
In other words, have you yet carried a 10kg payload?

If not, it will be only an 'experience gathering exercise' (like most of our participants in Olympics) for which only you (or the Govt!) can foot the bill.

Last date for registering: 7th Oct. very little time for you to make a decision.

My humble suggestion:
1. If you have not yet carried 10kg, forget about this year's event
2. If you have, persuade parents/ college/ forum members/ LHSs to contribute, and try to GO, GO, GO.
Best of luck.

Edit: Regn opens on 7th Oct, closes 15th Dec. Ah, there is time for trials and persuation!
