Guys,
  I am doing my research on drones at ICFOSS (international centre for free snd open-source software), kerala. We have been exploring the scope for opensource designs and open-hardware electronics in this field for almost a year. I was planning to put a meetup here at Trivandrum, kerala. I got approval from the office  and everything looks good regarding a good meetup.
  So, what do you guys say? Dates are not fixed we will discuss and then fix a date?

  First of all, good to hear from you guys. We are looking towards meeting you all in person.
   Not just software, hardware related stuff too. Lets all meetup and share what we do, what are we playing with and stuff. I guess for the first meetup let us keep it simple. We'll all meet, share our ideas and stuff and from the next meetup onward we'll have a formal discussion topic and all. From our side, we will opening up our design for FlyingWing (that we have just made) and we'll share our knowledge on how we are generating 3d maps using photogrammetry process.

 I am trying my best to get a ground nearby so that we can fly our toys too  8-). Update on the date will be published in the upcoming days in this discussion thread itself. 

Nice.. now this part is more promising... i think more people will be interested to some and fly and get to know each other... and also about photogrammetry...

OOh yes it sure is going to get interesting. I let you'll know of the dates soon. And if anyone wants to discuss a particular topic please list it here.

What about Open source Obstacle avoidance for UAVs especially Fixed wing ones. Since, there aren't any open source Platforms nor any open source out off shelf Autopilots which supports Lidar Obstacle detecting and avoidance. The Multirotor world has a lot of extra advancements in terms of obstacle avoidance, while Wing plantforms are neglected in the same. Autopilots that support Lidar detecting are either diy or Owned by private companies which makes UAVs for the government or the military. The hobbyist world need an open source obstacle avoidance system which can be plugged into Pixhawk or something similar.

 We are actually in search for a venue (a ground) so that we could do demos for the event. However the meetup will be hosted in the next 1-2 weeks. Thats for sure.
