Practice, and only Practice will make you perfect

Gr8 pics Vc.  Was it philanthropic act, or you charged some money for this chuck glider camp? Answer only if you want to share, will help others experienced chuck glider pilots to  conduct their camp.

Ps
For a chuck glider camp of this volume and number of days charges could be hefty, looking at your tremoundous effort of origami and chuck glider coaching ( I understand there was some RC (ARF) element in it, as sharavan told me since there were no y cables and other small stuff, none of the RC were  ready and sharavan had to fly his models)

My question is only for educational purpose for those who want to start a camp like this,

Edit
The smiles on childrens face etc is made out to be some philanthropic act of selflessness. It is was probably a business venture. That should have come loud and clear. That's what I wanted the members to know, I think the whole thread is inappropriate, I object to the tone and tenor of the thread. What is the problem in saying In saying with pride "the charges were x amount and in the process spread some happiness too" I don't know.

For admin
Anwar bhai, please look at in the light of tryin to paint a picture of selfless all free camp, fact of the matter is t was not, aren't the forum members entitled to know the truth?

The topic name “biggest, highest, everest ever ……………. in India” not at all convincing the act. These Chuck gliders are available @ Rs. 30/- ~ Rs. 50/-. I don’t know how much is charged.

If a person like him who does n’t know how to hold a 4 ch. remote and basics of aeromodelling can conduct such shows; why can’t we? Only if “ apna sapna money money”

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

Replies #52 and #53 have been reported to me as inappropriate.  As the admin, I am forced to comment Sad

On #52, I request the OP to remove the part requesting and/or suggesting financial details.  It can easily be inferred that such events materialize after negotiations on financial aspects, so these financial matters are at best "case by case".  Unless there is a complaint that there is overcharging from any affected party, we are better off without discussions along these lines.

On #53, the language is entirely inappropriate.  If there is question about this being the "biggest ever" such event, please post details of other events that are bigger. There are no marks for guessing.  The second part of this post is entirely personal. No one asked for or questioned the qualifications of the person conducting the event, so the comment is entirely out of place. Again, it would be appropriate to host such an event, and then comment... or at least point out specifically what was WRONG with the event that happened.

I request both posts to be amended at the earliest.  Let us keep this forum sane.

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

I just read the updates made to Reply #52.  Gusty has a valid point, that it needs to be clarified that this is a commercial activity, at the same time, there is no need to discuss specific amounts, unless there is either a complaint of charging too much, or it is voluntarily disclosed.  At the least, such discussion may be conducted in a separate thread.

A sentence like "Since it is unclear in this thread so far, it is good to clarify that the conduct of this camp was a commercial undertaking" would have been enough, instead of people having to divulge exact financial details of such rare events, where negotiations are the key. I hope you get my point.

First Of all I think all this discussion is quite uncalled for , How does it concern anybody if it was or was not a commercial activity on the forum.

If some of the members have had some issue with the organizer by  it being a commercial activity on which they might have  lost out in someway it is a matter they should be resolving between themselves and not on the forum.
If there is no such axe to grind then  really no one should be bothered by the activity being commercial or not  and stating eitherway would not reduce the scale and the magnitude of the event.

All I can say based on my experience in organizing events  is that to organize an event of this magnitude with such a diverse age group  requires certain special abilities  so my  Hats Off to VC .

Not all aero modeling is RC there are other forms also like Control line , free flight , paper planes etc , these are also model air planes and  building them involves much more skill than RC Planes . Unpowered flight  requires far more precision  in build than powered flight to achieve good results . Actually the word unpowered  itself is wrong Head Scratching but in the absence  of a better word I have used it to denote lack of a on board power source. Even a chuck glider is actually a powered flight where the power for flight is provided by the chuck.
From a small little paper plane to the mighty Antnov or A 380 the principals and science of flight are basically the same it is only the scale which varies  .
So let us not confuse with  these wrong notions that aero modeling means only RC

Aero-modeling is a big subject; starting from Paper plane to Fighter aircraft. And if the announcement is “biggest ever aeromodelling camp; the expectations are bit high. Otherwise he should have mentioned the event by Paper plane / chuck gliders / rc etc. etc.
And about the commercial part I can conduct such “chuck glider shows” for Rs. 35,000/- including couple of ARFs and I will.

if I am wrong then apologize  for my mistake.

It is not about commercial or not , it is the picture one paints, biggest largest this side of suez etc, we conducted a aeromodelling camp in medinipur dist , 17 schools participated , 1658 students including from IIT, came over, by no Stretch of imagination I will call it the biggest, it is sending wrong message to people who are reading it, he could be my friend, but I can't see this wrong info being posted, using special children to show stuff and gain some kind of sympathy wave is indulging in cheap popularity is not something that should be done, I am writing this for the love of the forum and hobby,

I personally am aware of one such person, who aims to gross Rs.3.5 lakhs + in the month of Sept 2011 by conducting Aeromodelling classes at a single location in India.

Why the big deal objection about the amount now?

It was a mega event in terms of amount as well as in the scale it was aimed at, no doubt on that. I am sure VC will be elucidating to us vividly how he has gone about achieving this mega target.

Gusty ,
With due respects  your  event is  a great effort as well  now that you have said it but it does not mean another persons individual event and effort should not be appreciated for its effort not all  fingers are alike, so not necessary that all will keep quite like you did after organizing a huge event .
The word biggest ever etc has been there from the first post which was sometime in August  so don't know why  these words are an issue now  after the event .
Coming to the commercial aspect one thing should be clarified that this forum is as open to us commercial persons as it is to hobbyists that is why it is where it is today unlike the other so called forum. So let us not get to self righteous about some one making money .
Maharana ,
The amount is a relative factor  dependent on many factors and I would say neither  you  nor me nor anyone on the forum has any right to put a price on a another persons effort and event in which you have not been involved , in all fairness the deal is between the buyer and the seller . The seller  perceived value for money in it so agreed to the price. Anyone elses perception could be different  that is why there are so many branded , un branded products in the market for any kind of product or service.

I strongly feel that this forum should not be used for judging people and passing loose personal comments implied or otherwise on individuals and settling scores which seems to be the case here.

Learning to Fly

Somehow this thread seems to have drifted from the original direction. Maharana's language is offensive to  say the least, but then I would also point finger at Augustinev for starting it all.

However, I see the pictures of young ones with a smile on their face and to me that is all this initiative is all about - commercial be dammed.....

High spirits we have: gravity we flout.

I still don't understand whats wrong in asking money for ones services. I never assumed he was doing it for free. And people offering the same service for less should get in touch with customers instead of picking fights with "competitors". Heck I hope he gets twice the money for his next event Thumbs Up

By all means twice ? Tens times, why not? Paint the right picture, that is important. Sai Anna , 100% with you, I have read all your posts even before joining the forum, no LHS makes bones about making profit on it, why should anyone do it, it will mislead people. Thats my point,
Biggest largest  , etc are claims, for the claims to be claimed as reality doesn't take time,

This airshow we did( on diktat from the generals) were subsidized, free entry, and sandy and I paid from our pockets, aim was to promote te hobby. Still we decided to keep it a low key, lest we be misconstrued.

For all and sundry, I didn't start the air fest 2011 at Shillong , at the same time as the biggest camp and aimed to sabotage it, as alleged by some people. I hope you guys are getting the drift.
? I am furious because of that. To put the matters straight. ( I haven't taken any names here)

Hey, hey hey..

If I have to conduct any workshop, it may be like this.

Assumptions + Analysis :
1. Persons participated = 50
2. Transportation from home to site & back home = Rs.1400/- (14 hour@100/hour).
3. Extra Kit = 4%
4. Gliders kit required = 52 Nos @ 82/-= 4264/-
5. Lunch = 80 meals @ Rs.60/- = 4800/-
6. Gift = 1200/-
7. Hiring Charges for Amplifier/Chair = Lumsum @600/-
-------------------------------------------------------
Total 12264/-
Per student = 245/- + without any profit

and there are other expenditure as mentioned in No of meals, Tips, etc.etc.

And which I not consider is my hiring cost taking one holiday. It may be neglected if it is for 1 day but have to be taken into account if for 2 business day even.

So, a Rs.300/- may be a fair idea for a one day program. But Some profitable programmers take Rs.350/-+ per student and with 4 Student/kit. and even sells foam gliders @ Rs.350/-
========================================================

How funny Analysis.

At least I will prefer buying a 80/- Rs. kit + Postage 60/- than my workshop and recommend others..

How funny my behavior also.

On to the picturesque Namdang Greens for testing.

In the second and third photographs, the boy in the yellow T Shirt, Snehangshu, was adjudged the best aeromodeller of the event and received a grand prize. More on that later. His diligence and dedication was truly admirable.

Photo no. 3 (DSCN0870.jpg) is a personal favourite.

Once the Glider workshops had concluded, we embarked upon the assembly of the ARF RC Models.

1. The Kinetic 800
2. Mr. Huidrom, a wonderful teacher who I befriended there, proved to be a very keen learner. He experiments with the Pearl Glider Kit.
3. Snehangshu instructs his team as they begin work on the GWS Slowstick. Mr. Sai, thanks for making delivery at such a short notice.
4. One down! Kinetic 800 is assembled.
