Design and manufacture a wireless controlled IC-engine powered vehicle adhering to the given rules, which can race against other opponents on a track with many obstacles.

Vehicles Specifications:

·        Engine:

1.    Maximum piston displacement allowed is 4.6 cc (Participants can also use lower displacement engines!). There is no restriction on the type of IC engine (either glow or diesel cycle engine), but the engine must have throttle control.

·        Fuel:

1.    The fuel should have the constituents: methanol, castor oil/synthetic oil, nitro methane. The percentage of nitro methane should not exceed 20% by volume in the fuel.

2.    At most one filter can be used in the fuel line.

·        Vehicle dimensions:

1.    The RC car should be able to fit in a box of dimensions 550mm x 400mm x 350mm.

2.    Antennae (if used) are exempted from the height restriction. However it is advised to keep it low to avoid any entanglement in case of a tunnel.

·        Parts that are to be fabricated by the participants:

1.    The chassis

2.    The body cover

3.    Suspensions Mounts

4.    Steering mechanism

5.    Platform for the electronics, engines and fuel tank.

6.    Drive-line and rods and other links (steering links)

7.    Wish bones (optional*)

·        Parts which can be procured from the market:

1.    Gear box assembly, Differentials (if used)

2.    Suspension springs, Shock absorbers

3.    Tires and wheels

4.    Clutch system

5.    Brake system

·        Power supply:

1.    The machine must have an on‐board power supply to provide power to any mechanism requiring electric power.

2.    The potential difference between any two points on the machine should not exceed 12V at any point of time.

·        Clutch and brake:

1.    As the track may contain some loose sand, it is very likely that wheel speed will vary to a large extent. The engine may die out if the rpm goes below a certain limit.

2.    Therefore, participants are strongly advised to incorporate a clutch and a brake in their designs.

3.    Please note that these are not mandatory but are advised for maneuverability.

·        Radio controllers:

1.    The machine has to be necessarily controlled by a wireless remote control system.

2.    Note that participants are required to bring 2 remote controls of distinct frequencies or a dual frequency remote control. This is done by changing the crystal used in the remote and in the servo controller. The frequency is mentioned on the crystal.

3.    Note also the teams will have to control three components of the car  viz. the engine throttle, steering and brake system(if used).

·        Exhaust:

1.    All vehicles must have an exhaust system that directs the exhaust parallel to the ground or directly at the ground.

2.    Silencers must be intact while the vehicle is running.

·        Wheels:

1.    The vehicle may have any number of wheels organized in any orientation as long as it fits the overall dimension box.

2.    It is advised the vehicles should wheels size minimum 3inch diameter for easy running over slopes and rough terrain features.

3.    Mecanum wheels are allowed.

4.    Use of rails is not allowed.

·        Participants are advised to use robust suspensions with large travel and ensure adequate ground-clearance owing to the off-road nature of some of the races.

TEAM SPECIFICATIONS

A team may consist of at least 2 members and should not exceed more than 5 members. It is not mandatory for all the members of a team to be from the same educational institution.

·        The students must carry valid student ID cards of their college which they will be required to produce at the time of registration.

·        Teams may participate with only one car. Only team members can drive the car. Participants shall not be allowed to be part of more than one team.

·        There is no restriction to the number of teams participating from same educational institute.

Wreckage will consist of the following chain of events:

Design Report Submission:

·        All the teams are required to submit their design reports by e-mail on or before 15th September 2011.

·        The design report should not be more than 5 pages including the details of the design, parts manufactured along with their images, abstract about any innovation of system on the vehicle and other sub-system in the vehicle( like steering ,suspension, brakes etc.).

·        Also a hardcopy of the report should be submitted at the event site.

Track Day:

All the teams will be subject to technical scrutiny to check the conformance of the rules. The final decision to allow the teams to race or penalize them with points rests with the event managers.

The event will consist of two sub-races:

1.    Qualifying session of 2 laps is allotted to each team; out of the two consecutive lap timings the best timing is taken.

2.    Teams will be eliminated on the basis of their fastest lap timings.

3.    Teams with the best lap times will go through to the second round, which will consist of head to head knock out races between two cars.

4.    The final three teams selected will be racing along with each other in the final race. Another single lap race will be conducted to determine the grid positions.

5.    The track will have check points at regular intervals. If a machine tumbles, or halts, or goes off the arena at any point on the track, one of the team members is allowed to lift it up and place it at the nearest checkpoint behind that point. The time shall still be running in the meantime.

6.    If any of the vehicle starts off before the flag is waved, the counter would be restarted and the machines will get a second chance. However, if any vehicle starts off before the waving of flag (or countdown) for a second time, it will be disqualified. No re-match will be held for the second time.

The winner will be decided on the basis accumulative points of a total of 50points.

The breakdown of the points is given below:

Design Report:                                                     20 points

Adherence to Rules:                                            20 points

Craftsmanship & Aesthetics:                        10 points

Race track performance:                                  50 points

=    100 points

*additional points will be given if the total does not exceed maximum points. The points are at the discretion of the event managers

**The above rules are subject to change. We shall however endeavor to inform all the participants. Please do keeping checking the website www.technozion.org or your source of this document for any updates.
