Title: about appropriate width & height of fuselage
Post by: ashwini06 on April 21, 2014, 03:37:35 AM
I have studied so many standard rc plane parameters charts, everything mentioned in it except width and height of of fuselage and the tapered angle of fuselage at the place of motor mount.
If any body know about this please tell me.

Actually in basic models it's not so important. You have stick models that use a shaft as the fuse, and they fly very well

So, primarily the parts should fit in. The motor (mount) battery receiver servos etc.

but the slimmer is the better for the flying model..... & of course aerodynamic.

My observation is fuse to wing ratio is
Eg 1:1.5
Eg Ie if fuse : wing
              8"  : 12"

Better go with the slimmest fuselage you can.
The size of the fuselage is a trade-off between various factors like size of the battery, strength of the wing joining area required, size of the max prop size you can use, motor/ engine mount size needed and lastly the cosmetic look of the plane.
its very difficult to put a 2200mah 3s battery in a slim plane and the efficiency will be reduced if the fuse size if >3" for a plane with just 7" prop.

Thin fuselage is always a better choice. It has less drag so an advantage for your power setup.

please tell me the standard dimensions of vertical stab. in the terms of it's length and width. In so many std. dimensions parameter charts it is given in the terms of area (=1/3 Hstab area) , and also for rudder.
(may be i could not understand it till now , so please somebody explain it for me)

It simple.

Everything start with the Wingspan(WS)

Lets say if you want a plane with 36inch WS, then the chord should be around 1/6th of the WS ie 6 inches.
so the wing area is 36x6=216sqinches.
H stab should be 25% of wing area, ie 25%of216=54sqinches.
so you need the length and breadth of the H stab such that the product of both should be around 54sq inches.
some good combinations are:

1.L=12" B=4.5"
2.L=10" B=5.4"
3.L=14" B=3.8"

All the dimensions includes the elevator. and product of any of the above combination will give you close to 54Sqinches of area.

Now into elevator. should be 25% of Hstab. 25% of 54=13.5sq inches.
For combo one above it should be around 1" wide(there is now way to change the length of elevator alone as it depends on the length of the H Stab.)
For combo 2 it should be around 1.5" and for combo 3 it should be around 2" for effectiveness. note that as the length of the H stab decreases the width of the Elevator increases.

Okay, ive explained about H stab. look at the attachment and Post the dimensions of V-Stab . let me see what you understand from the post.
