just got hold of a towerpro combo http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4853&Product_Name=TowerPro_BM2408-21T_/_18A_BEC_/_9x3.8_Prop_Combo few questions 1) how is the motor mounted? The mount seems to be small than the motor body 2) The shaft is pretty long, do I need to chop it off? 3) how is the prop mounted on the shaft? regards Pankaj Title: Re: anyone used a towerpro combo? Mount: 1. Get a circular Veneer /Ply little bigger than the mount base. You can also use Glass Epoxy PCB Clad board. 2. Drill holes in the veneer aligning those in the mount 3. Take short M3 nut bolts 10-12mm long and insert the bolt from the vineer side. 4. Use nose plier to fix the Nut on the bolt from the motor mount side. Shaft People usually leave the shaft intact, I would cut them off though. Please cover the motor body properly with plastic/tape before cutting the shaft. Pieces of the shaft may get sucked by the motor magnets. Putting prop Thats pretty straight forward. You would need APC/EMP props which come with a set of plastic shaft 'Spacers' for different shaft diameters. Find the right one and put it into the Prop. Now put the prop along with the spacer into the shaft and tighten the shaft bolt. TIP The mount has two Grub screws. They came out in my static test itself (okay, my prop wasn't balanced, nevertheless), so its better to put some red lock tight on the grub screws and secure the mount properly. Personally, I didn't like the build quality/style and would not buy similar models. Title: Re: anyone used a towerpro combo? for prop i use only gws slow fly prop and direct drive prop on this motor and that too using a propsaver setup. Sandeep Title: Re: anyone used a towerpro combo? Sandeep He is correct.Keep the shaft length as short as practical and use a prop saver setup. Title: Re: anyone used a towerpro combo? Post by: Rao on March 13, 2010, 06:25:15 AM I don't see any difficulty in mounting the motor. First remove the motor from the mount by loosening the grub screws that fix the motor to the mount. Then install the motor mount to the firewall using fasteners of your choice. Then fix the motor to the mount and tighten the grub screws and use locktite to prevent the grub screws getting loose.
