Don't wake a Tiger until you've factored the teeth

Unfortunately in our forum the RC ability is self-defined, probably due to the absence of a suitable certifying body.

 But, responsible self-certification is possible.

I give the example for (Flying) Fixed Wing Aircraft.

If you see the BMFA (British Model Flying Association) the A Certificate basically allows you in the air unsupervised.

http://www.bmfa.org/DesktopModules/Bring2mind/DMX/Download.aspx?Command=Core_Download&EntryId=138&PortalId=0&TabId=220

The B Certificate qualifies you as a Beginner, on his way to Intermediate

http://www.bmfa.org/DesktopModules/Bring2mind/DMX/Download.aspx?Command=Core_Download&EntryId=139&PortalId=0&TabId=220

Beyond that, it would depend on an approval from a recognized Pilot (Competition Winner) and even beyond that, ideally by Competition Participation and Award

These are just my views. I see lots of Posts by people claiming to be expert and so on, but looking at the kind of questions they ask makes me wonder if they could pass an A Certificate  Giggle

I also see lots of posts by people I personally know to be very good fliers, Intermediate Plus Plus to Expert, and many write Beginner or Intermediate.

I would advise newbies asking genuine queries to be careful about the advice they receive - it might just be all hot air  Wink Wink

Sir the title might have been how to determine whether one is a beginner or intermediate or advanced or expert.

I thought that intermediate was applicable to me, until I took to the sim for a self-check at RCB, found out that I was reduced to a beginner Giggle  BUT, having said that, my recent practices on the recently acquired sim [thanks to Mr.Sundaram], that I am able to quickly recall my past experiences and hopefully regain my self-demoted title soon Grin

And coming to 'RC Skills', that would be of great variety of things, like for example, a builder [an expert like me Giggle] or flier, or technician, or some of these combined or all of them.. Luckily for me, my knowledge is pretty good in electronics and mechanical of things, so technically I am an intermediate if not an expert Wink

Edit: grammar

I know when i graduated from beginner to intermediate (flyer).
When i stopped looking over my shoulder at the model coming towards me,
And learnt to look at the model face on, and push the stick towards the low wing.
Next came landing within ten feet of where i stood.
Later came holding a little forward stick for inverted...

Then i saw Harveer flying and concluded that i am a novice still...

Iyer sir, don't depreciate yourself so much Cheesy

I can do most maneuvers reasonably well, including all in the B Certificate. Yet after visiting Aamby Valley and Pinjore...........guess will always be a beginner Wink
