Title: Burnt the ESC of my brand new Sky Surfer V3
Post by: TNT on May 05, 2016, 12:35:52 AM
Hey guys, I recently purchased a Sky Surfer V3 from rcbazaar.com

http://www.rcbazaar.com/product.aspx?productid=1063

I already had a 11.1V 22mah 3s 25c Li-Po as well as a 9 channel transmitter.
The provided servos were working perfectly fine on the first 4 channels, next i then connected the ESC to the receiver at channel 3 and there was no response at any stick input there was no beep either. I thought I would have to calibrate the ESC as shown in the video, I started out with throttle at full and plugged in the battery to the ESC, there were 3 beeps followed by a late beep just like the video. I then moved the throttle stick to the down position, during this the motor started spinning and smoke started comming out of the ESC. I immediately disconnedted the battery and receiver, a few minutes later i tried plugging it in again, this time no beeping at all.

What did I do Wrong?
Did i permanently fry my ESC?
Was the ESC damaged before?
Can i use another 30Amp ESC to replace it?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

call RCbazaar staff about this, their support has been great... do not mail them about the problem first! just call them and ask their advice on how to lodge their complaint and things will go much faster and smoother and then just follow their guidelines on what u do, this maybe a problem of a faulty ESC, if it isn't then u can always replace it with another 30A.
i too have the skysurfer V3 and the ESC gets really hot for some reason...

Thanks guys but i solved it using another esc, also the battery i have is a 2200 mah, can i use this or should i use a 1250mah because i plan on using fpv. Also, any ideas on mounting the camera are welcome.

i think a 2200mah should do u just fine, use a board camera, or a 600-800 TVL camera and fpv setup can be mounted on the top hatch or u can cut a slit on the canopy so that the camera lens just peeps out, use wide angel lenses and also check that your field of view isn't narrow (depends from camera to camera).

Hey Rathi, thanks for your response,

I want to mount a camera and its VTx on the top of my plane but I didnt want to damage the canopy, so I tried making a little something out or courrigated sheet. The camera mount is made out of PVC sheet.

Is this a good way to mount the camera and VTx?
Will this affect flying in any way?
I wanted to mount the VTx outside to help keep it cool, is this okay?
