Hi guys,
Like many of you I have also made this worst mistake of importing an item from US to India which i later found is actually a restricted item according to the stupid indian custom rules. Its actually an Inspire1 Quadcopter from DJI. It is with the customs at the moment and the documents they are asking for the clearance cannot be arranged. There is absolutely no chance that DGCA department would issue me a No Objection certificate as an individual. So if any of you have experienced the same then please give me suggestions on what I should do now about this problem. Its a expensive item and i do not want the Customs to  abandon it and later sell it to their peeps illegally???

Were you able to send it Back easily ?? because in my case they have asked me for the following:-

)  Letter from the Shipper addressed to Deputy Commissioner, Customs New Delhi

B) Letter from the consignee addressed to Deputy Commissioner, Customs New Delhi. Both these letter should state the valid reason for requesting RTS.

C) All the documents such as commercial invoice, packing lists and any other document as required by Customs. After forwarding the RTS application Customs will study the merits of the case and take a decision. It is solely their discretion.

Did you also have to get a letter from the Shipper for RTS Huh?

Come on dont call customs stupid. It is must because there is a threat because of quads. And also such big quads can bring more problem so it has to be verified. If you want to get it released form customs You have to deal with the mess it would be better to buy it here only

Dont worry its gone, ask for refund, you just have 10days to get the NOC from DGCA, you can retrieve it only by an inside job

Its sad to hear this.. but at least before ordering it you should have taken advice from known people. Now the only thing if possible send it back.... same happened with me in 2013 but that time I was carrying the radio & they argued with me saying as per the rules only 27 Mhz is allowed..  I said wow.. I was thinking which world are you living in..  it took time for me to convince but later they let me go. But believe me getting a NOC from DGCA is not possible or easy..  but try your luck after all you have ordered a DJI Inspire.

Let it go. I have also ordered a rc car which is medium sized and obviously it has 2.4 ghz remote and is detained since last month. I called up today to inquire and got to know that is detained and the custom person himself told that its impossible for an individual to get NOC so better send it back to seller and get refund. Its really very frustrating, but have to deal it.

I have an noc from wpc will mail it to you.
Along with that, carry a screenshot that states that this has a 2.4ghz radio.

If they aren't convinced, then ship it back.

For the interest of those who want to import quad/multi rotor etc. directly, please refer following list of documents you would/may require.

1. Invoice
2. END use explanation.
3. IEC #
4. TYPE approval (if you are importing radio along with your quad)
5. DGFT restricted items import license.
6. DGCA NOC
7. Other Custom KYC documents.
8. BIS (if you are importing batteries and chargers.

And yes, those who think Indian custom is STUPID, please let everyone know how custom has duty to teach law to importer?
@ Admin, Why you do not restrict this kind of senseless comments? Or you are happy with people insulting our country?

Man LHS of YOUR Fraternity are getting RC Items by Bribing the Customs (Airport/Port etc). Few LHS who deal with local PAD/FPO have been known to "Snitch" them so that individual "Personal" importers face the music and have to fall for their Ransom prices.

Enjoy the "Licence Raj" of India and talk Nationalism like Free Will of American's.

 Clap Clap Clap Clap

PS: I do agree the poster is at fault. But I guess the LHS have enjoyed unrestricted Immunity with people ONLY talking about "Blacklisting" such "Dirty" LHS, who go in hibernation on event of geniuine. dispute, and spring up only to bash when the end customer's case is weak.

Don't wake a Tiger until you've factored the teeth

"dirty hands"  "stupid customs"

I would think they are doing the job they are paid to do

On the other hand, anyone who is importing something expensive should have enough sense to find out if the item is restricted or banned. Unless he has so much  money he doesn't care (in which case why post this?)

@ Ujjwaana

This is what I think of your comments. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin. You don't deserve more than this.

@ Fellow Members

Try and buy everything on invoice. Soon you would filter "YOUR Fraternity"

I guess, one would not buy paying tax cause it is TOO EXPENSIVE !!!.

Correct Ujjwaana?

Hi guys
I ordered a Eachine FPV drone from banggood.com and it is stuck at Chennai customs.
I have received a letter from them asking for a NOC from local police which I have submitted, after that I received one more letter asking for a DGCA clearance  and DGFT import license- For which I replied through email and didn't get any response from them..
3 days earlier I received one more letter saying it's a reminder of your parcel and the list of documents they need, I called them and explained all the situation about dgca and DGFT, they simply replied "you can get the application in wpc website,  it's updated a month ago..and that's the only reason we have sent you a reminder notice"

Does anyone know anything about it..

Not able to understand all this anger against Customs.
Every country bans certain imports.
And if caught, a fine has to be paid, and/or the item has to be sent back.

I presume, for example, that import of marijuana is banned.
Now if someone imports it, and the Customs catch it, should we blame the Customs or the importer?

If a quad is banned, its the job of the Customs to catch it. Why blame them?

There may be a lot of corruption in our country. But i dont believe that everyone is corrupt.
It seems to me that it is the people importing banned items who create the grounds for corruption.

Hope we remember that some years ago there was no way to pay for importing anything!

My DJI Mavic Pro is with them now.
I seriously dont understand, how they treat those god-made-drones like AK-47 ?

Common, countries like USA has FAA rules and you can simply register and fly with restrictions, but here in India, DGCA simply said banned and our noble customs started confiscating the drones.
So, no one cares for the hard earned money of those customers who bought it and now it with the customs.

God bless our rule makers!

Well the government seem to have more important jobs at hand. I doubt if they are serious about hobbyists like we people. They don't really seem to be bothered about this... setting up rules for drones would be last on their priority list.
The easiest way is to ban it entirely.
