Recently i purchased few propellers from Hobbyking but found that they were too heavy and had very large diameter for the shafts. a) 8x5 http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9878 b) 7x6 http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9876 c) 10x6 http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5512 That is when i realized, that they were probably for gas/glow propellers :'(.And i am a beginner in Electric Rc only. So i have few questions 1) Can i use them for my electric motors. Note: They are bit heavy and strong. 2) If yes, what conversion should be done to use them on my electric motors. 3) Do we have any Performance issues because of using them on Electric motors. for8*5 and 7*6 they say they have used with electric but for 10*6 there are no so clear reviews for electric except for some which is also not too clear this may be of glow because of quote... Post by: anwar on April 14, 2010, 09:09:02 AM Like you said, they tend to be a bit heavier and there are other subtle differences like the hub size. In general, you will need more wattage (higher amps draw) when you substitute glow props on electric motors. So, if you have a choice, doing things like going for a lower KV motor will help.
In summary, you can use them, but be aware of the extra load and take adequate precautions to handle that (use higher wattage motor, better throttle management etc). I am equally a beginer in electrics, but to answer your query, it would be like using a motorcycle tyre on your bicycle, yes you can do it but beware of the implications. Electric props are purpose designed, thinnner section, different tip design etc so that you get max performance with the set up. I know of one forum member here who was using a glow prop on his elctric and was not happy about performance till the time it was pointed out to him to change to elctric props and thereafter the difference was substantial. Decided to put those propellars aside for my future plans on Gas planes ?? ??? For now will get e props of similar size !! i am learning Electric Flying in a hard way, unless i meet some like minded fellows in my village :giggle: No plans of me flying in the city limits....love my village , lots of space and greenaries.. But will pay for my solo learning in an expensive way.... seems to be kind of Home education.. love it.. :) Thank you all for sharing your thoughts..
