RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

It was strange the first few months, and the family had their apprehensions.  But now they realize it is a passion that we (me and my brother) enjoy, it is harmless except for a bit of money spent (it could have been sent on other things much worse Wink ) and the sun affecting our skin tones Grin

But they do see that we are making friends not only locally, but also around the country, and even around the world !  And some of these people are extremely influential (senior members of the royal family etc).

Every once in a while, we make it a family outing, and that helps.  The field being close to a mangrove forested beach (just 500m) is an added attraction !!!

My family is very supportive so far, as the future family is not there yet (my would be wifey). Parent think that I am spending my money & time in constructive work than on alcohal, clubs & other bad habits so they are happy and very supportive about it. After all its my earned money and may be if I were to borrow the money from them then the support might run out soon enough Smiley

How it started was not such supportive with family and friends, as I like to have enough stuff in inventory and kept on buying all the stuff I can... too many servos, motors, battery.. RX/TX etc... my elder bro told me "so much stuff and no use"... my friends were, fly it then we will come to know. While I never cared about friends but this attitude that "you cannot do it" gave me the strength and willingness to "do it". Now I have shut mouth friends, asking me how to get into RC, and a very supportive family Smiley

My dad is very supportive but my mom really dislikes my hobby. The reason for it is quite simple, Every time i scratch-build a plane i end up creating a huge pile of rubbish Giggle Giggle after which i quietly move out of the house for a stroll outside to help prevent myself from the broomstick shots Grin Grin, and this method seems to work quite efficiently for me. I have managed to successfully evade corporal punishment from my mother till date.  Grin Grin

As of now,dad seems fine.

Mom is not saying anything negative atleast.Smiley

Elder brother is a headache when he is in a bad mood.Fun when he is happy because he lets me drive too.If he gets too bad,I(will) ask,"Whose car is it?Who got dad to buy it?Just shut up and be happy that you get it."

Just two friends like rc.One cousin can't wait to see my car on a ground. An uncle seemed impressed even though he spent like 5 years in Boston.

Here too. I actually loan money at 0 interest. Told my parents that i will pay back once i earn. And i will do so Smiley After all they have problems too, and spending on something they dont understand will generate -ve reactions. I dont blame them Smiley

I think "what a waste" when the girls in my "close - almost family" friend circle spend on makeup and stuff. Rs500 for an eye pencil thing!!!!! ITs just a pencil! You get Natraj pencils for Rs.3!

For me Rs500 = 1 Lipo Cheesy

How to make a cup of tea ? two ways

1. turn on gas
2. search for vessel Bang Head
3. put the vessel in stove Thumbs Up
4. run to take water
5. put in vessel
6. run for milk powder
7. run for sugar Head Scratching
8. when u open sugar bottle ,spoon is missing , run again Cry
9. get spoon
10.when water get boil ,run for tea dust  Bang Head
11. put tea dust , milk powder ,sugar Grin
12. now run for the filter Bang Head
13. now realize to take cup Huh?
14. finally u will get a cup of tea ....  Grin

second method.
1. assemble the following ,tea dust, sugar with spoon ,milk powder with spoon ,filter, cup
2. boil water ,add tea dust ,add milk powder, add sugar .
3. filter it ,have a cup of hot tea with a smile.

in both the end result is tea , but in second case we will have the tea wit a smile .

both method can be considered   when we  build a scratch  built model . lack of planning  will result  in a clumsy untidy work area .if we plan things before act  things will be more appreciative. (specially from family side )
note from my experience ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Grin

Unfortunately, both parents hate this hobby.. Sad
Mother thinks that it is an absolute waste of money..
Father doesn't mind financially, but he thinks it is interfering with my studies (which it is not!)
Brother has nothing to complain about! Smiley

So, for the time being, hobbies are set aside!

Bokilap,
I your dad loved it he would still love it.
Best would be take him to the field and let him fly. Even if it means sacrificing a model.
But then think of the look in his eyes which I am sure you would cherish forever

Anwar,
If my wife ever notices a new plane, most of the times I pass them as,  "oh that one?? I just put new covering on that" but with my son growing up it is getting difficult as he is able to tell the differences

L'enfant Terrible du RCIndia

I guess I am lucky to have a supportive partner. She patiently endures my madness and the resultant mess. Finances are never questioned.

My Mother is an angel who has sacrificed her own privacy and her bedroom. She temporarily shares a room with my teenage daughter (my biggest fan and a keen Heli flyer!) so that I can work on the Griffon Hovercrafts in her bedroom.

I am blessed.

My story is a bit better with the family.
My daughter loves to be on the field........ to see the planes and to run around. She still isn't into the flying stuff ...... as yet.
My wife is very supportive during the week..... Lets me build during the wee hrs of the night. but sometimes she is a cranky on Sunday as she wants to do something else and I want to fly.
Mom and Dad are glad that I'm doing something that I've always wanted to do.
My cousin in Delhi has been my strongest support. Thanks Bhai.
I guess I have the advantage of having nearly setteled down in my profession and can now take the liberty to follow a chilhood dream.
Guess I'm lucky this way.

Yes, its very natural... parents usually stop you from doing something for your own good.. and once they realize that you are all set in your path of life they leave you to ride the road alone and take your own decisions.

It dont expect to do so, but right now i am just a student of architecture. And want to become a good architect rather than a project manager.
I manage to do whatever i wish, but sometimes we have to wait for ripe time. I wanted to make my personal RC plane since I ws in class 8th. But lack of resources and support made me satisfy myself making hand-gliders Cry.
I still rocked.
Now hope to ROCK my dream by the end of jan.    Thumbs Up
Anyway what do you do?

I fly with my now13 year old son. We have been in it together for 3 years. So that is one person in my corner.
He actually put me into this hobby- used to do aeromodelling in school NCC. He visited hobby centre at Kolkata with my mother and then I went to meet Rishi Kumar there and got a skybee and a 3.5 aurora diesel and it went on and on from there.

As far as the "Home Front" is concerned, She hates the mess, esspecially when I am building a model.
As far as expenses go, I am very honest about it. We keep track of whatever I spend on this hobby and I tell her to buy diamonds or jewellery worth at least that much.
Not that she really cribs. But I feel that if I am spending money on a hobby like aeromodelling, then she can spend the money on jewellery. expensive clothes don't fit in the same bracket .
Try this formula with your spouse and you will find her asking you when you are getting your next model.

My friends thinks that I have got ill earned money  to spend on this nonsense stuff moreover they thinks it  can create security problem .The  truth is that I drive a Maruti van while they drive a vehicles costing not below 7 to 10 lakhs whos emi is not less than Rs 20000
Exactly, and these chaps spend 25k on a new mobile every 12-18 months and think it is fine. My mobile costs 2-2.5 k and is really basic. I would rather spend the money on a radio or engine.

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

But I feel that if I am spending money on a hobby like aeromodelling, then she can spend the money on jewellery.

Double the budget Shocked Bang Head   But I can see this working out beautifully Wink

My brother is the one who pulled me into this, and is probably more active in the hobby than I am !  That is a huge source of support to have someone else really close to be at the same wavelength.

My younger brother forced/encouraged me to start this hobby few years back. He use to join me to Nad Al Sheba grounds on Fridays to watch others fly, and knowing my interest in aero modeling in school days, he pulled me to Toys and US shop to buy my first High wing trainer. However he never tried flying till today and moved to Qatar. So far my family is quiet supportive about my flying, except some grumbling from my wife about dust and occasional black mailing for jewelry.  Giggle
