depends on what material you have ordered...This may be due to no invoice attached with the parcel.... I have faced this when i purchased my E-Fly 100C... Check with Customs.. they might ask you the payment receipt or your CC statement...

Like they don't know about it already  Tongue  Isn't it all "I scratch your back, you scratch mine" from day one ?

What matters is the position you take, and how much you can put a straight face and stick to it, since both parties are aware of the game being played.

Mugen Seiki Rules

Mine from Tower got held because it contained a $20 temperature probe. The customs guy said its an industrial product and I need IE code to clear item. Angry

After 2 visits and a gift, parcel was cleared.

My advice.
You do not need an IE code as long as you are importing hobby itmes for your personal use through postand items are not on proscribed list. There is a permanenet IE code allotted for such imports.
Also my advice is to declare the correct value. You may be asked to pay the correct customs duty but you can home and sleep peacfully knowing you have done nothing illegal.
I have been importing parts engines and kits which range from few dollors to 400 USD and every time the notice was received produced the correct invoice and paid the duty assessed. Sometimes it was correct for personal imports and sometimes as per commercial rates, which I could have contested but I rather choose to pay as I need the items with me not at the customs warehouse.

Mugen Seiki Rules

Is there a import duty exemption limit for the order value? I noticed that sometimes I get charged, sometimes, I dont for the same value.

And is there a way to calculate a ballpark figure for customs duty for personal use import?

I think the exemption is just upto $50 but wht i could understand is all customs duties on small parcels are highly non-deterministic,sometimes u'll be charged and sometimes not...wht matters here is ur luck and not the rule...

Learning to Fly

Dear Chintan,

I have been flying in an out of India for quite some time now and usually find the custom dept very cooperative. In fact one thing that I have noticed with all departments that have a citizen interface, usually they are out there to assist the citizens (well some exchange gifts that a separate story). So most of the time there should not be an issue if your material has been held up by customs. It may be that they want to understand why the item is being imported - thats all.

So please go and visit and be open about your intent. If you do not understand whatever they say, please state the same till you get a satisfactory answer to move ahead.

Regards
Pankaj

Ordering $350 worth of Futaba 7C TX/Rx/Sx/Batt + extra Nano Rx + trainer cable from Tower Hobbies.

What are the treatment of Customs when the destination is company in SEZ areas ? I have given my office (at
Embassy Golf Link Business Park, Bangalore ) address in Credit card and thus default things would be shipped there (better as some one would always be there to relieve).

Does familiarity with Customs official help here  ;-) ?

The use of the item is what matters to customs - unless work involves RC flying/driving and hence importing this as an item that will be bonded per SEZ guidelines. In which case you wouldn't be able to take the item out of the SEZ area either. Who knows this may actually happen too   Cheesy. The item is addressed to an individual and hence doesn't matter what address it is sent to.

A few weeks ago I purchased a Hitec Eclipce 7, Radio System along with a SPECTRA RF Module from Tower Hobbies and it was shipped to me by International Priority Air Mail Service and I received it with in a couple of weeks. The parcel passed customs without any customs duty.
Tower Hobbies DO NOT offer falsification of the invoice and would never provide such false invoices.

You can mail hobbycity or you can talk to someone using their online chat system. The walky talky and the watch I think you have bought frm ebay ?? If yes, then most of the ebay sellers ship their goods from USPS and it takes some time.. In the meanwhile ask your sellers some kind of tracking no of your goods..

Hope this helps ?

cheers

Just for us to know that customs are back tracking all courier imports & post imports and are asking to pay custom duties for parcels where they have not levied duty. I recently got a demand notice for something that i had got from towerhobbies some 8 months back it was some buggy parts the value was about $150. I had to pay Rs. 2438/-. I was told it they are doing for revenue mop up.

The post office receiving foreign post keeps a register where they enter the numbers and addresses. You could go there and check the register.

Hi Anurag..

Wats the content of the package ? It probably has been detained because you ordered something that is not permissible..If not, then you have all the rights to call them up or go there and ask for an explanation..

hope this helps ?

Its not about legality of the hobby. When NCC can do it, IITs/NITs can organize fest and film star can fly that why can't we! There is no written laws on this, just blanket orders. If you are flying at a proper Club/Air field with permission of concerned authorities, it should be fine.

As far as the customs impounding parcels goes, they can ONLY hold Radios as that is clearly in the 'Restricted' list. Rest like motors, ESC, LiPo (has some issues regarding anti dumping), plastics , connectors are all under unrestricted list of import, HS code for which could be found on Indian Customs site (find my older post where I have mentioned for few RC related items).
But again, before hitting the 'Buy' button on E-bay/ HC, do a cost-time-benefit analysis and see if you can get it from LHS instead.

Just wondering if a Trex 700 can take a payload of 5 to 10KG?  Head Scratching Grin

First of all out Govt don't want to give sufficient frequencies for us, then they do all this bull shit.! The article does not even mention 2.4 G, are we still in the early 19th century? Tongue

Our so called security agencies are so outdated and full of complete MORONS.
As fas as thier ' intelligence inputs" are concerned, people are ramming cars and trucks laden with 'payload' into target in our neighboring countries. Why don't they ban use of motor cars, trucks etc and ask citizens to use cycle rickshaw, bullock carts and horse driven Victoria (for the elite class)  Giggle Giggle Head Scratching Head Scratching Shocked

That 10-12kg line sounds so, so funny to me!! as I said, morons! The country which as actually hit by planes did nothing to ban the hobby!! They have properly 'Regularized' it.
