Title: keychain camera as onboard camera for rc plane
Post by: allthatido on November 14, 2009, 04:32:03 PM
hi guys

Just got this keychain camera from ebay  ;D. I intend to use it on a rc plane for onboard videos. It weighs only 15 grams. The video quality is decent..worth the money. Its an 8GB model with a 280 mah lipo. Charges using the usb cable provided with the box. I have recorded a video of 40 mins so i think the lipo is gud enough for rc. Ill post a short video later. Cant wait to get it on some kind a plane (:|~.

And heres the video....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJcjSHrTmIY
The video was recorded at 16:30 with dark rain clouds in the sky...so the light condition is not a full daylight one. The place of recording is the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road Andheri (E) Mumbai. Got this cam for 30$. the actual quality is a tad better than what youtube shows you after compression.

My brother got a few from the far east (spy cams disguised as pens etc), and the picture quality was again amazing.  Same $30.

I guess Tehelka exposes would soon be featured in 1020p HD footage pretty soon !

Here is $15 HK version video taken by my brother.

He says Youtube reduces clarity of the video, even at 480p.

Hi

If people are interested in a keychain cam...i wouild suggest to go for the one with the memory card slot. The one with the internal memory has a faulty flash memory...which will go boom after a few days. Especially the 8gb models are known to go bust after a few days.

Regards

One more video from the field.  The clarity is good.  There is no zoom, yet the visuals are good as long as you fly not too far.  Pointing the camera by guessing the position is a challenge though.

i wouild suggest to go for the one with the memory card slot.

And I did confirm that my brother got the one with the SD card slot.  Can't see it on HK website anymore though !

I prefer version8 more than version3. I have both version8 and version3, version 3 shoots better in low light and version8 gives good crispy videos during sunlight. Version8 gives shaky videos in lowlight.

Where do you get your cams from, i am looking for a version 3 from quit some time.

I get it from ebay.com. There are many dealers who sell version3, but they keep increasing the price because of demand.
If you do not get version3 and your intention is to use it with planes or shoot planes go for version 8. I am not using my version3 cams as I like videos from version8 more than version3 ones. If you want to shoot inside house go for version3.

First of all you'll have to identify which camera you have, hobbyking sells #7 camera.
If you have bought from HK you can directly refer this
http://www.rcindia.org/servos-gyros-and-all-electronics/trouble-upgrading-firmware-on-808-camera/
Other wise goto the chucklohr website, whatever you want to know about keychain cameras, you'll find it there.

well just changing the file extension don't changes the recorded file format.
you can use a SD card reader to read the card through the USB port of the PC.

I don't know whether this procedure works on every model but for changing the recording date you have to create "SetTime.txt" in the root directory, enter the date & time (ex: 05.12.14 20.35.00). After saving the file just disconnect and power on the camera. I got mine from a local store for Rs 500. The camera quality is horrible.
