Hello!

Recently customs held a 2.4GHz micro size quad (38 grams) and they are asking for ETA.
I used FedEx as courier service.

Do we need "permission and ETA" for almost everything we import?

First they said it is prohibited in India.
Then they said to arrange for WPC NOC, and now they are asking for ETA.

Before this case, they held a flight controller and bunch of wires (hardly 4000 rupees) saying 'Prohibited Items'
Please mark- Wires are "prohibited" - ridiculous.
But after some efforts, it was released.

I believe they are knowledge deficient.

Well FedEx is also not clearing these things Huh nowadays??? Well as you know its really Hard To ETA From WPC.But what you can do is Explain Them And I hope they will Understand chances are there your radio may get cleared because Its FedEx.

I am new to the forum so if this is not the right area to post, please redirect me to the correct area.

My drone shipment (a prize from a hackathon) was coming from UK by DHL express. Custom has stopped the shipment citing security reasons on flying. However, the circular they shared doesn't mention ban on imports. It just says that while the Government forms regulations on flying on Unmanned airsystems, operation of drones is illegal. From my understanding operations is not equivalent to imports. Does anyone have any experience on how to get the package cleared?

Status of package is "detained by customs".

I don't want to give you goosebumps but a shipment of ONE plus one mini quad was destroyed by the customs which was the prize for a contest on the one plus one phone they destroyed the whole shipment as it was described as drones !!!

First Of All Welcome To The Forum and Yes you have posted this is in the Correct Thread.Now If you see As your shipment was Coming By DHL many persons imported Quadcopters or Tricopters etc ( I would not like to call it a Drone for now) By DHL previously all this used to get cleared but that was before all This Goverment Rules and Regulations i.e Restriction On Import Of RTF Quads with Tx/Rx Or without Tx/rx.Well in DHL they are detaining each and every shipment containing Radio Transmitter or RTF quads also DHL is not clearing them but yes explaining them Can actually help by having a talk with them.But if they dont listen then you will have to send it back if you dont send it back the Prize will be detained (I am not trying to scare you) Just Try Talk to them as You can tell them its a Prize and also as you have operations and import have a difference so surely twll them about this directly talk to them and yes what documents are they requiring for clearence?? Also will you be able to tell me your tracking number if its possible then only as i respect your privacy.

But shipping from usa? ?? I don't have any IDEA what to do.....
I read somewhere in the Forum that if you use Services like DHL for international shipping you aslo need to pay custom?? ?  Duty while in Free register china mail no customs ....

SO friends guid me which method I should choose ....and preferably I don't want to pay customs duty because ....cost of bluebeam ultra is 65 dollers yup I know it is heavy ...all suggestions are welcomed thanks

@ Kartik :- Borderlinx is a freight Forwarder and I think they just forward the Package to you.People Mostly use this service when the product they want is not being Shipped to India i.e the seller doesn't want to ship to India and then What you do you give the Borderlinx Address with you ID then Borderlinx charges you the Shipping and forward it to you and I think Shipping Charges are High Same like FedEx or DHL. And Borderlinx too will be Shipping by DHL and as I have already told that DHL is Detaining Packages Nowadays of these items.

Might look inappropriate here but, What I learnt from my previous experience (stuff was stuck over a year and never received, also lost other items in that same parcel):

NEVER TRY TO SAVE MONEY FOR TxRx stuff or such things (e.g. so called  drone etc). buy from LHS of India (i'm not related to any LHS). Off course, with risk of ... [seems Customs people have  looks technical support from L** which never let your stuff cleared once detained by customs.] It is wise to wait or choose from what is available LHS.

Always respect   our law which is (always) "defined" by respect-full officers.

I booked a JJRC 1000 bnf from gear best which cost approx 1100rs.. Yesterday postman came for delivery and asked 860rs as duty.. I sent the item back to post office.. It will be there @ post office for a week.. What should I do guys? I have proof of purchase and payment..

Well As You Ordered It From sp4mm3r I see that sp4mm3r Parcel does get clear but now the Duty Is Coming to be about 85 to 90 % I think so its really high. Now What you can do is Send The Parcel For Re-Assessment  But that would really take some time maybe a month. So Its up to you well you can accept it or You can send the parcel back and get your money back?? But your Really Lucky that it got clearance from Customs So does it contain a Transmitter ?? If yes then your lucky because most of the Mini Quads which Contains Transmitter Get stuck in Customs and The Customs Require WPC NOC and then its send back to sender. So its upto you now?

Hi Aman, Thanks for your reply.. This is a bnf version, so no tx and batteries.. But still the duty is very high.. I think I have to send back for re assessment then..

Submit the catalog and your money transfer details. And they will rectify and send you new custom fee value. Once it happen with me i talk to the post master and the sent me the new parcel with proper custom value with in 3 working days.

How to submit? Can u help me in that?

First tell them to send it for re assessment of your parcel

then go the post office where they do custom clearance with the money transfer details and catalog Nd the invoice (you might have received in email)

Explain them and they should calculate maximum 30% of the total value(product price +shipping)

then they will calculate and send to your post office

pay the right custom duty and collect the parcel
