Hi colleagues,

my name is Pavel and I am planning trip to India next year 2015 (summer). Me and my wife are visiting India very often, because it is beautiful contry. We were visiting area Himachalpradesh. Mountains are beautiful and when I was there last time I had an idea to take there my RC glider and fly in Mountains. But i want to be sure, that it will not cause problem, because I do not know restrictions and rules for RC in India.

Airplane - small RC glider F3K Libelle from DreamFlight (small airplane for transport, easy repare because construction is EPP - http://dream-flight.com/) no motor.
Radio - Futaba T8FG (2,4GHz FASST)

Is it possible to fly in India with this equipment?
Do I need some permission or licence?

I have special insurance from Allianz for worldwide modellers.

We want to be in area around city Shimla.

Yes, you are right, around Shimla is big area. Last time we were traveling from Shimla to Spiti and back. Wonderful journey.

You said, that I can have problem with bringing my radio. Why? Are there restrictions about 2,4GHz or problem, that they will think that it is import into India?

Pavel, you bring your radio in our luggage. 90% chance it will just come through without any problem. If the Customs question, you can request that they put it on your Passport, as you will be taking it back when you leave.

But there is a chance, rare, that the customs may ask for approvals/permission from the (WPC) relevant authority. Then you have a problem. They may even confiscate it!

Shimla proper is a city! No fun flying there. Check out Naldhera Golf Course and Wildflower Hall lawns as alternatives. You may have to ask for permission. Although I am sure you are skilled enough to land the DLG in your hand, in the mountains the winds are always tricky.

If you are interested in the "real thing" check out Billing-Bir, 3-4 hours drive, one of the worlds best locations for Hang Gliding, with adequate ifrastructure

Pls do not worry, you can bring in ur stuff neatly packed. as for the radio put it in the luggage.

In our club we have people coming from austria who are working in volkswagon and they are bringing giant scale planes.

Also someone working as a clay modeller for Bajaj was into helis and was flying the Biggest electric heli here.

other option is the multiplex merlin. very small and fun to fly model.

since ur are insured i suppose you have membership of some club. just keep that id with you.

Not necessary it will happen, but as I said earlier, there is an element of risk

No problem with the DLG though
