Hello fellow RCIndians, started this topic to ask if creating an official whatsapp group for RCIndia would be good idea. Only after Anwar sir gives permission can we start this. There will be moderators and rules list.Anyone can suggest a new rule and if it is good and agreed upon by moderators will it be added.

A comprehensive rules and guidelines list needs to be made which the moderators and anwar sir can authorise for use on whatsapp. As it has no way to separate different topics and all posts must be seen at the same place the rules will decide how a post should be made. This group will not be a place for big rc topics or learning based topics or sales. Only a place for fellow RCIndians to hangout. Everyone in the group will know each others number so this might not appeal to everyone.

As whatsapp is a widespread service this will benefit all RCI users who have it on their mobile or tablet. Better yet if we could collectively create a RCIndia app for android and iOS it would be much better but as this is very time consuming whatsapp might be the only solution.

Please share your thoughts on this fellow members if it is a good idea i will work on it and anyone who wants to help are very welcome to join. Only once permission are granted and Anwar sir authorises everything required for the group will it be created.

Seriously it's a nice idea. We can post day to day rc activity like flying etc.
build logs are impossible but people can post about starting a build etc.

Whatsapp can't hold history. Also reduce inputs in RCI. I think that make too much complications due to record less conversations.

The point of a forum is so that knowledge and information is free for everyone to access. Why should we withold this knowledge to a closed WhatsApp group? This issue has come up earlier I believe in the form of Facebook groups,  chatrooms etc. Point is, knowledge is and should be free, and should always be so.

Aniket and akhil bhaiya as i stated earlier no learning based topics or posts. Its a hangout for all rci members, and if any significant knowledge is shared then admin and mods will post it on right place at rci.

Yes chats will have no history, but anyone who has a question can get it answered quickly. It can be used for on the go problem solving. Almost all topics have been covered in rci if not on other rc forums, but so many beginners  have a difficult time finding them even with a search box. Anyone who wants to be on the whatsapp group can be added, we can share links to rci page if a problem is repeated. As i said an RCI app would be best but is time consuming to make and requires financial investment. So whatsapp is easier solution.

Also if there is enough participants wanting this option and members amongst us who are software developers and ready to dedicate time to make the RCI app a reality that is always a great.

As some people mentioned above, mobile app is far better than whatsApp groups.

Tatptalk is all you need to make a mobile version for this forum. They have a plugin for SMF as well so it's PNF

Chat groups on WhatsApp is not a good idea as there are restrictions on user numbers. Alternatives include chat plugins for SMF that takes care of user management that's built into the forum, however that too puts limits on number of simultaneous users. Another fool proof way is to go ahead and create an IRC server(or a channel on popular pubnets), that would house our needs such as split into sub-channels for chit chat and respective rc sections(it can also be hooked up to provide public searchable chat logs, verified users, admins, mods, statistics etc.)

Also as said by user before there is plugin available in tapatalk where in customisation can be done, I too am interested in the project .

RCI is Already On Tapatalk i think so.Not sure but i think it is.

The current web based forum is just one way of communicating. 

Having a WhatsApp group does have some advantages, but it also has major disadvantages in terms of loss of history and the limit of 100 people.  It is a very good idea to co-ordinate between a local group though. Many clubs/fields use WhatsApp and Facebook groups towards this purpose.

In terms of an app, this forum has been Tapatalk enabled for a long time, and many people are using it that way. 

Oh I didn't know that(never visited rcindia on a mobile ). Personally I do not prefer WhatsApp communication, but that's just me.

Very irritating(as someone who does "apps") nowadays to see every person wanting "an app for that".

Yes sir a group with many RCI members already exists, now the group worked well in the beginning but as there was no set rules to be followed someone posted about not being refunded money by another member. This went on for more than a week and all members on the group were annoyed(the purpose of posting was right, alarming others about a fraud),but as everyone on the group has no choice but to read all conversation it was well and many left. I only wanted to try and make a group that was officially a part of the RCI forum rather than just a group of members coming together.

Sadu, yes tapatalk is a good option. Hope in future dedicated app for RCI can be made. Yes wanting an app for everything isnt the solution but to get the hobby and the community to everyone an app would be the easiest way. Every person who wants to get into RC should know how to,and keep the RC spirit going.

I agree that it is the easiest way to extend our reach, through an app however RCI is a forum and for all its intents and purposes taptalk will do good. I'm a very new member but have been passionate about the hobby for long. Lack of resources are what's troubling the hobbyists imo. Almost every rc term search with country set to India has RCI as result. The sheer amount of product discussions and guides here is all that's needed for a beginner in any stream. People do not tend to look after the first/second page of a search result so they might not get the posts right.

Making it official or unofficial will not make any difference in using Whatsapp. i have approx 30 RCINDIA members mobile nos. i also thought of making a group in whatsapp, but at the end of the day RCI is the only medium and many said of having history is the key benefit and important also. whatsapp is more or less is just good morning wishes, goodnight wishes jokes sharing application. Local whatsapp groups is ok it seems. 

we should start these official whatsapp groups on locality basis like a state wise group ......find few veteran flyers in every state and .....form a grou stte wise this way it will be less complicated and more effective ...... with added advantage of knowing local flyers or knowing persons who fly in there state ...

Mkartik nice idea though to cover entire india 29 groups have to be made and 29 admins co-ordinating with each other. Every groups knowledge will be kept to themselves.

For local flying and co-ordination its a good idea and already being implemented by many. I am already in such a group. But it has members from all over india.

Flycam the group hasnt been made yet, as still we are unsure if there is any actual added benefits.
