Mine is the floor of the apartment - with all the "nice stuff" packed into a kit bag at other times, planes in various stages of "development" hanging off curtain rods and on top of cupboards all over the house. With balsa stock and ARFs in cases in the loft where the family can't complain or even know that these exist.

Lemme show off mine. Its a small table with tools. The store of motors, servos, props, Rxs, Lipos etc is in another room, stored in cartons.
I was rewinding a CD Rom motor (850kv) when clicked.

There was a time when I was still in school and I had my study room converted into full fledge 'Electronics' Lab... Now living with Room mates and Flat mates over all these years, this small table serves as my Work Bench. Alas!! Wish to have a small garage workshop sometime in my life!!

Pic 1. Estratos being restored on the workbench
Pic 2. Another shot.
Pic 3. My Mini store full of BL, Lipos, Electronics and Lots of plastics etc. My F-22 Raptor in the lower deck, waiting to be maiden one day, when I feel confident to fly out of the SIM.

I find my workbench like a Tin Shanty in front of a dedicated R/C workshop Floor owned by Astha sir!  CRO, Hot wire Foam and What Knought!

P.s. I LOVE the wooden flooring!

So is mine and she is in college now. Coincidences galore.....................

Have some wonderful memories of Sikkim. Been there more than once. I had set up the DOEACC Training Centre back in 2003. Regret not having picked up a Samurai type sword from the market there, as I was flying back. Lost my heart to it.

Edit : Got my prepositions mixed up. Horrendous and unpardonable on my part. Frightfully sorry, old chap.

Title: Balsa storage
Post by: Losthorizonmba on July 08, 2013, 01:12:06 PM
Aside from dedicated dehumidifier, etc., I'd be interested in hearing how everyone is storing their balsa this monsoon season. Forget about knee joint pain in this weather, seems the wood is faring worse.
Both hard and contest stock is warping away. Couple even split on their own. Have tried everything from cling wrap film with silica gel to spraying with isopropyl alcohol. No go. It's no use even cutting strips as once off the plank, they take their own curves. Am shaving 5mm stock to get straight n square 3mm. Guilty feelings. See attached photo of pontoons for my Schneider Trophy racer. Both built off same crutch/jig. The one on left I took to bedroom last night to install water rudder servo. Returned to workshop this morning and one on right has developed curves off its own. Thought of steaming it back into shape but worried Fevicol aliphatic glue joints will fail as well.
This is stock I brought with me when I TR-ed back to India. I wonder how LHS stock will fare by the time it reaches me.

Title: Re: Post your workstation here
Post by: sanjayrai55 on August 24, 2013, 10:25:14 AM
Yes, self built. Both table & backboard. Very simple, just used MDF board for backboard (no ply this time, as termites are a problem) Important to put 3/4" or thicker spacers between the wall and the board, so you can spay insecticide. Used 1/4" expansion bolts.

Shelves are ply

Title: Re: Post your workstation here
Post by: sanjayrai55 on August 24, 2013, 10:27:25 AM
For table, top should be minimum 3/4" (I used 20 mm) ply. Shelf is 6 mm ply. Legs/frame 1" X 2" wood. Triangular gussets used, wood screws (screwed in, not hammered)

Easy-peasy :D

Title: Re: Post your workstation here
Post by: girishsarwal on October 04, 2013, 12:12:48 PM
Thanks Neil,
I have had one very good advice from Sanjay sir, "Whatever you pick up, put it back at the same place, right after *that tool's* task is over. Don't wait to finish the job and then clean your workshop. Never works". This one mantra ensures that the workshop remains clean and a clean workshop amounts to a great building experience.

Here are the plans for the drill press:

Having RC Aunt around may be a good thing.
Or maybe not...

Fortunately, on the rare occasion that she decides to tidy up, she remembers where every single screw, washer, circlip, strip of used sandpaper, even toothpick used last time to mix araldite is.

Have requested her to refrain for the duration of this competition...

Aaaaah, found it - compare.

What a good boy am I!

On a sombre note, Ma passed away in 2012 and bequeathed her room to me and today I use it as my study. As long as she lived, she would survey the mess in the living room and all the trouble that I took in cleaning the mess up late at night. She would say, "After I am gone, this room is yours. Mess it up as much as you want to, leave the rest of the house neat."

So be it Ma, so be it.

Gusty your situation is no different.  :giggle: The way you keep calling out to mam or Vineet for accessories and tools whenever we are building is a proof to that.  >:D

Your Hanger is no comparison to the above pictures Gusty since its always in an orderly fashion neatly arranged and all the stuff kept in its place (only you don't know where they are  :giggle: )  :giggle: thanks to Varsha Mam and Vineet whenever you are working on one model remaining go back to their respective places automatically without you noticing it...........................

...............aaaaa >:D >:D ....but..... for one rare exceptional occasion for 15 days once in every three years when you have to pack to go to the next station, when you are desperately trying to get the hanger in ALG of 1200sqft, store of 1000sqft, garage of 300sqft, and a hanger at home of 400sqft all at one place at home and struggling hard to get them into one truck with longest possible trailer in which your household goods fits in a small pocket. That's a Scene.

But if I compare that picture then it will be unfair on all of us.  8-) 8-). Other than myself, Param and Shilpa, VC and Mrs VC have also been witness to that.

PS: I am still desperately trying to get hold of that four huge boxes which you accidentally left behind at Shillong.  >:D >:D :giggle: :giggle:

Very interesting and inspiring  ;D ;D

With stalwarts ahead of me, I see no chance of winning :) Though ill remember to take pictures in 'messier' days !

And the proof of a true aeromodellor is that he will fill up all the space you give him, over a period of time, and also , that you'll find something related to RC within a 2 meter radius everywhere in house  ;D

Iyerji, the carpet in your picture reminded me of a very similar one i had in my hobby room. Used to make it so hard to find the small odd parts on it !

Great guys, keep it coming.

Iyer Sir,

If any of those pictures gets out where we are all covered up in sanding dust after a session of rigorous grind down it will be Humour in RC  :giggle:  :giggle:

I still remember mine when myself and one of my colleague while working on a huge 3 mtr foam model outside in the terrace when were busy grinding away huge sheets of HD thermocole after hotwire cutting with electric sander for wing aerofoil with thick cloth masks on our face, Naively oblivious to the fact how the entire area and our self's were getting covered in a layer of foam powder. It was only when Shilpa came back from her errand and when she screamed out seeing our masked faces covered in all white did we realize what jokers we were looking. Even the cloths hanging in the line outside for drying were covered in white layers of foam powder. what a scornful look we got that day.

@ Serial Crasher Having been living with the species from Venus all these years, we know for sure your hanger and work space can never get messier enough to win this. It is next to impossible   >:D >:D :giggle: :giggle:. Thanks to that species all our Hanger makes sense whenever they are in good mood.  ;) yeah but there are other times too  :'(  ;D

That be no Schooner, methinks. It has multiple decks and a 104 gun battery. It begs to be referred to as a "1st. Rate Ship of the Line" or at least as a Frigate.

A Schooner is much smaller, faster craft, similar to a "Sloop of War''.

Correct me  iam wrong

(a) your models aileron ? you need to look at it for correct mechanical trim abinitio
(b) Have you glued the wing permanently ?

PS
Some observations

This is a rented house

You have either a projector or a big TV

@VC true that !  :salute:

@Gutsy

a) will probably need to put the servos in neutral position and then adjust ailerons before maiden . Is that what u meant ?
B) not glued the wings still need to sand down the carbon fibre rod to stick in the wings. Was thinking of using a fibre glass tape so can be opened if required. Any suggestions?

Sherlock's deduction is not 100% correct . Adulteration of the 21st century I guess ;D
Between curious explain how this was deduced . >:D

@Serial - do not glue the wings, cos it will become difficult to transport the surfer. Use the fibre tape its the best.

@anwar sir,
The earlier thread was for taking pride in your workstation.

This one was for letting people peep into the real you  ;)

'Post your workstation here' takes the entire punch away from 'It's a MESS'

Without 'It's a MESS' maybe we would never have had posts like ankurkaul17's 'sometimes i let them sleep on my bed...' (A potentially winning caption)

Perhaps you could consider demerging (maybe by editing some posts)

Well I dont have a spare table per say, but I keep my stuff packed in boxes ( arranged accordingly too ) and when the time comes, ALL MY ROOM , especially the BED ( after i put a work-sheet on top ) becomes a workshop :D

and yes If i wish to sleep at night ( which I do every alternate day ) all the stuff is 'Shifted ' at the floor and next morning everything comes back

Will post an image of what exactly happens the next time i open my stuff :D

Perhaps this year, along with Sweepstakes,
Anwar sir can consider awarding these titles:
1. Best workstation (contenders sanjayrai55, ashok baijal etc)
2. Most messy (contenders yours truly, and others like me)

No prizes for category 2. Only the honour of Most Messy!

I suspect there may be many contenders...
(Eg, akhilzid, who has recently done some great work with a Tx, but has a mess in his room...)

After relocating to Bangalore, I shifted to a flat where space was at a premium. So my hobby stuff got squeezed out to one of the balconies. The hobby room is therefor narrow and longish. It took a lot of imagination and space saving procedures to build a comfortable work space. A video tour is below

Now you just need one more item - some Corro planes  :giggle:

Title: Re: Post your workstation here
Post by: ashok baijal on June 18, 2015, 08:16:46 AM
Thanks Bhavesh Girish, Col and Sanjay ji. Managing in a limited space was challenging but the end result was worth the effort I now have lots of storage and workspace with every item having a space earmarked. Incidently I had to dump a few models which were not my favourites to make space.

Yes Col,its a compressor for my airbrush. However waiting for the water filter to arrive as the vendor from whom I had bought the compressor swiped it out before sending it.

Sanjay ji, I had tried Coro models in the 90s. India Hobby Centre used to sell Coro kts. One free flight coro Cessna is still lying with me. Planning to convert it to electric RC sometime soon. Coro is a very nice material but first I need to find a store which sells it. Finding a parking space near the city market is a nightmare. Once I lay my hands on the stuff then I would certainly be building a few Coro models.
