Rc guys in orissa are troubled due to misinterpretation by local folks and POLICE!! ,
Few weeks back a Russian guy flew fpv over SRI JAGARNATH TEMPLATE PURE!  It was not a no fly zone but he was arrested for interrogation!! As POLICE suspected he was a threat !!


Again two three days back some one from Behrampur (Ganjam District ) was flying his copter over a marriage party when he lost his link which made his copter to crash drift 3 km!  After which it crashed (though no one was hurt)  but local folks called up the police and they ceased the coptor and took those guys for interrogation!! 


So I think right and correct amount of education is required !!!

Flying over populated places with hobby grade parts does pose a risk, any layman would freak out looking at flying contraptions heading towards them being flown from elsewhere. I think it's better to either befriend the people before you get flying in your neighborhood (like I do) or go to some open space with less population.

I used to think the rc flying restrictions in other countries were lame, but they make a lot of sense considering some of the stuff we fly can potentially injure/kill someone easily.
Besides, Ariel photography is not allowed in India, you need to be licensed (So said the guy from Dhruva Space, Bangalore). So FPV flying is pretty much not allowed over populated areas at least.

Anjan Babu you are right but in other countries rules are clear and are followed as they should be but here there is no specific rule !!

Like I said, for one, Aerial imaging is not allowed unless licensed, be it an amateur or a company. We just need to look up such details and other associated regulations before we do what we do. I agree that its a pain to deal with Indian regulations due to the lack of accessibility, but its a milder pain than being confronted by legal authorities.
There's also a limit on radio frequencies, their transmission powers and so on, gotta consider all that.

The best thing I can think of is to start a local RC club/network in every city so all pro/amateur flyers can consult the group to have proper knowledge on what they're doing. Makes it easier to update on new regulations too.

RC flying is not restricted if done with proper precaution.
But Aerial imaging is restricted without licence. over a temple?? Strictly No No.
No matter what, flying over people is always restricted!!.

A lot has been posted regarding this many times on this forum. Things should be kept as simple as possible. In other countries RC flying and FPV are not new. Also, there are proper rules and regulations that are to be followed... and are followed by people.
In India RC activities are not so much common or most appropriately I should say these things are not very much known to the authorities and local police and to an extent the public as well. By this I mean, large number of people are unfamiliar with this hobby.
Flying hobby grade items over a crowd is not at all justified. Everything that we use in our hobby from simple ones to more sophisticated and delicate ones could fail at any point of time. Everyone of us had faced and gone through these failures many times loosing our aircraft/stuffs.
Now lets us consider the case of the Russian guy, I don't know whether there are any such rules in Russia but he should have taken care of and also talked/took permissions from authorities before flying over the temple. We all are familiar with the importance of this temple. So, keeping the security of the temple at stake for just getting few shots and recordings is not at all justified. If it is so then anyone and everyone can come and fly over the temple and other important places and also could be a threat. We(everyone from RC world) would never ever attempt or even think of doing anything wrong from our models that could cause damage/destruction of life and property, but, today everything is open to everyone. We could get every bit of information from internet. Anyone with any wrong intention can make a model today with little knowledge and handful of items and could use it for bad purpose.
Second case, is rather more disgusting. Similar was told by Gaurav Sir in one of his post where a person with best of best equipments was flying in a marriage in Kerala.  "Lost the link" justifies my above statement. What if that model fell on someone and hurting people. How scary it would be  rotating blades out of control falling from above...
So, concluding all above, this is our whole and sole responsibility to atleast ourselves follow the basic rules and regulations for flying/FPV. As well as if anyone is attempting to do something similar than to stop him/her from doing it. That what we can do for ensuring and keeping our hobby safe otherwise all these activities could make it all come to an end. If these activities come in notice to the authorities the day is not far that not only interrogation but other severe actions could be taken on us. I request all of you to kindly take care of it.

@AnjanBabu: yes for sure there are so many things that are to be considered about instead of getting into trouble from legal authorities. But, can we say that everyone in our country including all of us, do we really think about all this. Every second person not only on this forum but everywhere across country as soon as builds his model capable of flying thinks of upgrading it to FPV although, not having appropriate/required flying skills and knowledge. I'm not against from learning and upgrading to new things but the method followed is very wrong. Sometimes people at beginner stage only start with FPV. Numerous post and threads have been posted here only claiming building multicopters with FPV/long range etc...
The things is unless people don't realise the importance of going step by step atleast in this hobby all this could never come to an end.

I do make sure I don't mess up, not in a city like Bangalore where the media leeches off of anything even duly spectacular or interesting. More importantly, I make sure my neighborhood is amused and not threatened by what I do.

Ofcourse, in south still there are people who follow rules and regulations but the number is not very big.

it's not just guyz in odisha who are troubled, its a global phenomenon,numerous cases are there,heading must have been a bit different one.

With great power comes great responsibility (spidey says so ), and there is great power in those crafts. Setting the correct expectation amongst bystanders, fellow people on the field is very important. We've had policemen at our field, standing by and watching planes, also seeing that atleast one person out of Boltz is always managing the crowd while the rest are flying... it has helped. Always a good idea to fly with responsibility that shows and is reciprocated, fly in a group, and have someone senior in the group...

Well.... guys... what the Police did was absolutely correct... the Laws in India are absolutely correct and more often than not they are interpreted correctly.  Exception being a vested interest by any of the parties... ok to dispel the doubts here....

1.   Fly over Puri temple.... well go as per the DGCA and Airctaft Act... it is an ABSOLUTE prohibited zone.
2.   Police has the right to arrest anyone who is either creating a nuisance or is being a danger to public or public property.

So guys with that silly thing in your hand called an RC Tx... just be very very vigilant in what you do with your RC Set... This set comes with a very high responsibility and it has to come from within or else ...... well... the police just interrogated the individual... that's not much for Indian police..

All said and done, the buck finally stops at the RC flyer. He IS responsible for what he does / did intentionally or unintentionally, doesn't matter. He has to face the music. Some times it would be better to face the Authorities (at least there is a little chance of those guys understanding us) but just imagine facing an irate crowd after a mishap (minor or major) !!!! You may thank your stars that you are alive, able to stand up and go home...Every thing may be condoned UNTIL something goes wrong and it is for us to face the consequences. Methodical approach, sticking to rules, checks and double checks and care are the keys for good conduct of the hobby.
