Post by: Subir on March 27, 2011, 02:47:39 PM
Hi guys
My brand new arising star on it's maiden flight had a push rod failure mid flight and crashed outside the field wall, when we went to retrieve it some locals had already took of with it.

Please be on look out for any local selling the parts at the noida field
The model was Seagull Arising star with OS 46ax engine ,Orange Rx receiver and futaba 3001 servo.

Kindly please let me know if you are approached by any locals

Regards

That is what I am hoping for, he has no use, so he tries to sell the parts at the field or return it for a reward.

I have heard rc planes been stolen from garage, but this is very different those. Must be real cheap people don't know what to say. I would say lodge a police complaint showing them the pic of the airplane.

In the interest of all here is what happened......

Subir had bought this plane the week before the last week and I had maiden the plane for him since I was going to be training him the plane flew well and I landed it post a couple of circuits .... today it was Subir's first day for training (training method = trainer cord) I took the plane off the ground and did a circuit the plane flew well.... I took it a hieght and and gave access to Subir ... the plane took a steep dive while Subir was trying to fly as I recovered the plane the elevator stopped responding I cut the throttle down to Idle and tried utilising the rudder and ailerons but due to the loss of elevator control the plane started fluttering and finally crashed outside teh boundry wall of the field.... Subir's brother got in his car and rushed to recover the plane but could not find the same .... he asked a couple of labour working and they said that a DCM truck had picked up the plane and vanished .... we went to the site of the crash and could not find any debris so my presumption is that the plane fell in the field next to the boundry wall and survived due to the grass and thus no debris could be found.....
A very sad day as had the plane been recovered even if it was broken the loss would only have been the airframe but unfortunately in this case it was a total loss.... plane, reciever, battery, ubec, switch, servo's, engine, etc .....
.... A very unfortunate incident for sure.....

This hurts. I lost a catapult glider in 1975 and still miss it. This is unfair. I empathise with you and I hope you get a lead on it. If not, just go ahead and fly another one. What has happened can't unhappen. We live in a 3rd world country and such incidents are common place.

However, Subir and Divay, I feel sick. This hurts.

This is sick!.. I had experience of onlookers stealing stuff back in Chennai but not the whole plane. Time to have a GPS tracker... a self destruct would be even better!!..  ;D ;D

thiefs are on every corners of india ....you would get it soon my best wishes............

Lodge a police complain, it would not be something very difficult to find of in villages since the area is remote and hardly has much population.

@Divay- His plane had some feature like could e controlled by 2 radio or something like that..? am i right??

it is a sad thing indeed. we all went up to the crash site. i dont think anything can be confirmed. could even have been that those very labourers workers had nipped it.

basically we all need to be careful. the field in noida is more or less outside populated areas, hence there are lot of rural or labourer folks in the area.

Real sad indeed. This is an indeed an expensive hobby and we do spend a lot on it, but things like these inflate the load unnecessarily.

What was in use is a "buddy box" trainer system. The Trainer's transmitter is the "master" and connected to the Trainee's unit (slave) via a cable - though Futaba now has a wireless version available - and can allow the student to fly. The "master" can override the "slave"  and regain control, almost immediately, by releasing a switch.

Further, if you read Divay's post, the elev control stopped functioning. So having a master trainer does not help much in this case - does it?

though Futaba now has a wireless version available

Been using the wireless one extensively for the past 3 months or so... absolutely worth the money spent. Especially applicable ever since we got a mix of FG radios (12FG, 8FG etc which work on 2s voltage range) and the legacy ones which around the 3s voltage range... AND we had to start using special trainer cables depending which was master and which was slave etc.  All that is gone now !

Thinking of making a PPM tap from the Futaba wireless trainer system (http://www.futaba-rc.com/accessories/futm1010.html) so that the same can be wired up to an audio jack so that a Futaba radio can be used as slave for a JR/Skpektrum radio.  Feeding power into the trainer RX will be the (small) issue.

Sure. Seemed to be a failure in the linkage. My post was to explain the working of the system to traxxrc1.

And Anwar, I 'm sure you mean Trainer Tx and not Rx.

anwar is right however, you can use a futaba 6ex with a futaba 8fg on a trainer cord where the master needs to be the 6ex and the slave should be the 8fg, vice versa is not recomended....

I meant that the new wireless trainer system is actually just an RX without any antenna :)  So how to feed power to it from the JR/Spektrum TX (used as master) is the part I was referring to.

anwar is right however, you can use a futaba 6ex with a futaba 8fg on a trainer cord where the master needs to be the 6ex and the slave should be the 8fg, vice versa is not recomended....

Just remembering the combinations, and then remembering to connect the special trainer cable in the right direction is all too messy if you do it often enough !  Some combinations work with the regular cable, others need the special cable.

This is needed if the FG radio is the master.
