Title: Releasing from Chennai customs
Post by: dileepbalan on September 21, 2010, 03:27:01 PM
I have ordered AXN floater from HK and it had reached Chennai on 9th. Now the item is with customs. Ajo, asked me to verify the tracking number with website http://ipsweb.ptcmysore.gov.in/ipswebtracking.

To confirm, I have called the postal department (22341898), they replied that, they have send to customs and I need to submit "documents" to release it. They asked me to go Meenambakkam post office (upstairs), there I can talk to customs. I have called on 22340008, but this number is faulty now. So, planing to meet them directly.

1) what documents they may ask?
2) what should I mention to release the parcel?
3) please share do & donts with your experience

Regards
Dileep

AXN should not be a problem for few ...There are some issues I can't discuss here...

<Edit>
You need to Write a letter to the Asst Commissioner FPO, stating what the item is and attach the invoice from Hobby King. to take the invoice,  log into your HK account,
Click "View my Account" --> Orders xx (Check) --> the Order containing AXN and click the the link 'Customs invoice' link in the Order Details page.

I have encircled the link in greed in the attached screenshot.

Hey Anwar, as per the other seniors say tat "Be careful as other would be reading the forum", so I sent the little "Don'ts" which I learnt from seniors to Dileep. There are times where PM comes to use.
The situations are getting hostile for RC people in the country and the new issue Bangalore flyers are facing would be known to you.

I thought you were disputing the choice of the AXN Floater, since it was on the same sentence :giggle:

Of course, items related to handling bureaucracy have been discussed here openly before, and there is probably no need to reiterate any of it now.

If  Dileepbalan had waited for a few days for the delivery of the package, he would have received it at  his doorstep delivered by the postman. But people in their eagerness to get the things unnecessarily make things complicated by calling the FPO. One should visit the FPO customs only if they receive a notice from that department. Usually all required documents like invoice and customs declaration and such are provided by the hobby shop people in a strong envelop attached to the package. They even include an extra copy of the invoice inside the package also. When buying hobby goods online from foreign stores one need to have a little patience and wait for a couple of days extra.

Hi Rao sir,

I have tried to call the customs folks today, but nobody picked the phone. One more thing to clarify that I haven't received any letter from them.

So, which is the better choice? Can I wait one more week?

Regards,
Dileep

Dileep,
Wait for the letter, if it comes you can write back to them with the relevant details, you need not necessarily visit them.
Rao's advice is bang on! Patience pays

Just wait for a week, by then you would receive your package. If you don't receive it after a week, PM me and I'll give you my advice.

As per Captain's advice, I went to PAD - AIR customs, two days before. Submitted the letter and customer inv and the call-memo. They got convinced and said that, within 2 days they will release it.

Today I got a call from PO. They told me to come there, pay the amount and collect parcel. They have charged Rs 617/-, but no receipt for the money!  ???

Thanks a ton Captain, Rao sir, Ajo and Ujjwaana.

Regards,
Dileep

Dileep,
The money receipt is the custom document pasted on your parcel. That is the custom invoice, where you would find the custom duty and the octroi (generally about 100) written in pen. This is your receipt. If you wish you can cut that out and keep it safe as a proof of having paid customs on the equipment

Yes, Captain. The document is pasted on the parcel. (I thought I will get one more receipt from PO also.)
