Title: Static Scale Models
Post by: Shrikant on February 27, 2010, 02:52:41 PM
Hi Everyone,

I know this is a RC forum, but I was just wondering if there are any Static Scale modellers here. Maybe there are some who do both (what I aspire to be doing). Or maybe someone knows who does it.

Anwar, hopefully we can have a common ground here with this breed of modellers as well....

-Shrikant.

Hi! I am heavily into Plastic kit static models. Preferred scales 1:72, 1:48 and a few 1:144. Combat aircraft with a focus on World War 2. Some tanks and ships. My collection comprises more than 100 models.

Cheers!

Oh cool...   {:)}

I am keen to get into it. Shall appreciate your guidance a lot. Actually I am about to order the kits online. Are there LHS who supply kits? What about auxilliaries like paints etc?

There are many Toy Shops who have Academy / Airfix Kits. Look around for them. I know for certain that they are available in New Del/Kolkata. Paints are best imported from abroad though they are also available locally. I can give you phone numbers if you are interested. Best of luck!

Let me know if there is any way that I can help you. PM me.

Goaded by the encouraging responses ....Me 110 in 1: 144 scale, this model is only about 3 inches in length. Note the hand painted canopy framing, camouflage pattern created using a cut off stippling brush.

Hi VC

it is amazing to see a part of your meticulous Century.  I hope that all the kits you have built are of different aircrafts.  You can open a museum in your town and I am sure it will be a great attraction for everyone.  It will be good to learn history about airplanes  if you can get a place and document detail of each plane in an organzed manner.  I am sure that if you start this project, many more people will join you as you add more aircraft to your squadron.

VC, did you build those models or you just painted them or are they just your collection? ???

Dreamliner, someday, when my hands are not steady any longer and the eyesight dims - I plan to donate all my models to a museum. Hopefully, that is not in the near future. Right now, I am still building furiously!

Vinay, all the models are hand built by me and then hand painted. I have been pursuing this hobby since 1976.

Cheers!

VC,
I dabbled into this aspect of the hobby (the plastic static kits) and had quite a collection, but over a period of time the models were either donated, gifted, or I was cajoled to part with them. Then like two kids happened and before you knew all those were in bits and pieces.
However after going through your efforts, I can say mine were no way even near to your efforts.
keep up the good work mate!

Sushil, grateful for your appreciation. What gives the most pleasure in this kind of modelling, is the scope of detailing. My next set of photos will highlight some of the details that I have incorporated in my models. Today I am missing my collection a lot, as I am in Guwahati and they are all in Kolkata. I didn't dare transport them for fear of damage.

Cheers!

Respected Modellers.. i am also a modeller, not only in Rc but also in static..i started making models from my child hood..and most of them were not serious..but it came serious as i grown..and was making all scaled models, using handy things..later i mastered making models with drawing paper and any materials that can use..i turned in to real aircraft, in real scale, after watching some programmes in TV show, and it was boosted by the channels NGC and Discovery..it was a lightning strike..and after that, to me finding a scaled model, or finding even some datas and drwings about fighters and others are mere dreams..but, once, i met a very tallented Officer, at HAL, as part of my project submission, was Sreedhar Sir, who opened to me a new way, to collect ample of books regarding the fighter, bomber and all other aircrafts..it was a new beginning to me..so, i have the scale and detailed drawing..so, i spend about a money, that with that money, i can buy a brand new sedan, in the mean time..but still all books as a valuable assets to me..still i was very unable to make models, because of the complicated structure of fuse and others..

Title: Re: Static Scale Models
Post by: roopeshkrishna on March 08, 2012, 10:09:27 PM
but i mastered this also by making paper pulps and once, i got a real structural drawing from a company, of a radome..it was a clear insight to me, as how to make a radome, from a flat sheet of paper..so, i started making models in serious..all in perfect scale..but, i always adds one of my touch, as its all my own scratch builds..so, here is my Osprey, the VTOL..ever..once i got an oppertunity, to add a display of my scaled models in all segments, in REC, Calicut, now NIT, and after few hours, an elder person came to my display room, and asked me, from where you buy these all..i answered, that most of the models are hand made..suddenly, he turned me, and atarted shouting me, using wrong words to me..to him, making such models from paper and handy things were impossible..and he and some of his Colleagues considered as my models as all chinese, and painted it all by me..because, canopy, and complicated shapes are imposible to make with hands to him..so sad..bad gudgement..and Pradeep, the final year mechanical student, who gave me the oppertunity to me to display my models there, came on scene, and convinced him, as he is my neibhour..the shouted person was a teacher belongs to the institute..!!! so, this is my Osprey, scaled in 1:48th, and finished all in paper and handy things..the engine housing is 100% paper..

Post by: roopeshkrishna on March 08, 2012, 10:15:21 PM
the Teacher, who shouted me, later apologized me..but i lost one of my ever loved model of Bristol Beau, as i plucked it in front of him..the bubbly canopy was the impossible item, to him, that to make by hands..
here my DR1..all paper..ball point pen refills, alumnum sheets..all

scale modeling means is not mere making of fighter and bomber planes..it must be in all segments..
here is the Bicycle, brought me a price of best modeling, to avoid pollution, is this green man machine, is the bicycle..it scaled in 1:12 th, and made of paper, ball point refil, bangles from my Daughter, for wheels, bicycle spokes, wires, paper pins..
and a FLAK gun from WW2..all paper, and drinking straw..

Title: Re: Static Scale Models
Post by: roopeshkrishna on March 08, 2012, 10:41:07 PM
and a lttle honey tank here..made of paper..by years, i completed more than 2000, scaled models all from scratch..mostly, with paper..and the biggest airctafts were the Mig 29, and F35..in to 7 feet long..all paper..and its all easy to make any scaled models from scratch..making models from scratch is devine and more challenging than kit building..its 1000% satisfying than kit building..kit building is straight foreward, as, slice it, clean it, glue it and paint it, and some time, paint it and glue it..its all the simplest..but after 2000, i accidently came to know about a person, who sells the scaled model kits of war planes..so, i tied up with him,..and started making models from kit, along with my scratch building..i hope, i am one of the most fortunate person, as a modeller, because i got more than 120 kits, in to all scales, from all maufactures from world, for a scrap price..then i started making deals with Academy Minicraft, and one of my friend gave me a best link to get models from Academy..

here from 1:44 th scale..my coolection of models in 1:44 alone spans in more than 120 models..and still many waiting to complete..

Is that a Spitfire or a Typhoon/Tempest? The air intake looks too big for a Spit. They did have clipped wing Photo Recce versions of the Spit, but that huge air intake and tail is a giveaway...............

And please give the Cat a Starboard prop IMMEDIATELY! ;)

it is not possible to add many of my completed models here..i have more than 50 kits to complete again..all are shelf..but still making a little by little, as now i am more interested in RC Boating..it brings me hours of real pleassure, than anything can bring..hours of RCying..and on..but still working on scaled models..at present, i am making a big scaled B24 liberator, all from scratch after seeing a posting here..and thanking to Sumeet, for a great drawing and detailed photographs..and its scale is 1:48th..
still i know, at Bangaluru, kits are easily available..by this time, i tried to contact the related person..but he is not responding..so, by daytime, will try once, and share you all the feedbacks..from there we can collect all model kits for a very reasonable price..recently, i purchased a kit, of Sea Harrier, in 1:48 th scale, for Rs 600/-cool kit..
and this one for Rs 700/- the Eileen, of P47, in to 1:48th..now working on it..

friends..all we know, making models means, not making static models from Kits..and in to aircrafts..making a scaled model from a kit is straightforward and so easy, that any interested one can do..but making scaled models from 100 scratch is 1000 times satisfying and challenging..here my backhoe loader..fully made out of papers, and fully working model with wired controls..the wheels were scraped from old thrown out toys..reworked some..scale is 1:35th..i attained all diagrams and drawings from the company as blue print..i took about 5 days to complete this marvel..
