Title: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: SunLikeStar on September 20, 2010, 03:09:50 PM I am going out of town for a couple of weeks and want to take my EasyStar with me. The trip will be a flight from Pune to Nagpur, stay there for a week then to Jabalpur by bus. I have to leave this Friday, my concerns are:
1. How to pack the plane? Because it won’t fit in the box it came in with the tail attached. 2. Will there be a problem at the airport. Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: SunLikeStar on September 21, 2010, 04:12:08 PM bump
??? Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: Shrikant on September 21, 2010, 04:28:24 PM For the flight, as long as you are not carrying the batteries (even the transmitter batteries) with you, it should not be a problem carrying your plane as carry on item in the cabin. You could keep it in as dismantled as possible position for ease of carrying. Its not a banned item in India. Neither it can classify as a weapon considering it is foam. Except the guys feel the pushrods are a weapon :giggle:
Regarding bus there after, not sure cos we dont know ehat kind of bus it is and the space.... Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: SunLikeStar on September 21, 2010, 04:37:59 PM ok, but how should i pack it with the tail attached, where would i get a box of that size.
Bus will be regular 2x2 volvo. Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: Shrikant on September 21, 2010, 05:03:44 PM Why do you need to pack it? :headscratch: Just carry it as is... Yes, it will attract attention but you cant help it. May be you could as well be responsible for the creating another aeromodeller... ;)
Bus... a dicy story considering you never know who would want to stomp his hand bag on your easy stars tail while lying up there in the stowed baggage rack... Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: anwar on September 21, 2010, 05:11:27 PM Judicious use of thermocol shaped to enclose the tail is the first option that comes to mind ! You can use irregular pieces of thermocol for this, by just stacking them into thicker sheets using glue, and then using a sharp knife to make the hollow profile you want (two pieces).
Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: atul_pg on September 21, 2010, 05:17:06 PM Get a custom made box made.. wont cost you much..
Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: SunLikeStar on September 21, 2010, 05:21:39 PM @anwar
The thermocol option sounds good, but will require lots of effort. @atul_pg Where can i get custom made box? of what material? Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: atul_pg on September 21, 2010, 05:24:40 PM try google.com for packaging manufacturers in pune. Material would be normal cardboard box.
cheers Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: SunLikeStar on September 21, 2010, 05:30:01 PM I am getting all whole sale dealers of packaging materials.
Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: SORAV on September 21, 2010, 09:10:22 PM respected members of the forum i would like to know, can i carry lipos and all my electronic stuff with me in the flight or not, as i have recently shifted to ahmedabad .
Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: anwar on September 21, 2010, 09:22:29 PM Just did that yesterday ;) Had wrapped each lipo separately in zip loc bags, and ensured that they are in checked-in luggage.
The airline check-in counter asked if I had batteries. When I responded affirmatively, they asked me to get only those bags passed through scanner machines. So I walked up to the scanner, but the CISF people there asked if the batteries were hooked up to anything, I said "no, they are individually wrapped", and they said it is fine, no need to scan. That was it ! Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: SunLikeStar on September 22, 2010, 10:05:39 AM I have travel with lion batteries before without a question asked. This is the firs time i'll be travelling with lipo.
On the topic of travel box, where can i get a box like this. This could solve all my problems. Title: Re: Traveling with EasyStar Post by: majraj on September 22, 2010, 03:18:00 PM I travel with lipo's regularly. As mentioned by Anwar, pack them seperatly & in check in baggage & you should not have any problem.
