Hello All,

I am travelling by air from Pune to Delhi in a couple of days. I intend to take along my DJI Phantom Vision 2+ with me, as I have some aerial filming to do.

My question is, that is it a hassle to carry my quad in hand baggage? I intend to seal and carry the LiPo's in my Check-In bags, but the quadcopter I want to carry in hand baggage for obvious reasons. I also plan to disconnect the props and stow them away separately. So in effect, I will be carrying the Tx & the Quad in hand baggage.

I've gone through the other posts, but most of them deal with only getting stuff thru customs (I'm already past that phase  Grin)....any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance/Aditya

Update: I called up the airline office, and they said there was no problem carrying the drone in hand baggage, and the batteries separately.....however, the DGCA notice regarding the ban on RC aircraft is kinda unsettling. Anyway, I will find out in a couple of days and update you all.

Also, I came across this - DGCA likely to unveil rules of use of drones this week - http://www.dnaindia.com/money/report-operational-rules-draft-for-uas-likely-to-be-in-place-this-week-2062274

By the way, some people mentioned that Civil Airspace starts at 20m above the ground. Can anyone confirm this, citing sources? I googled the definition of 'Civil Airspace in India' quite a bit, but didn't turn up with anything concrete. Any help would be appreciated.

If above 20m is civilian airspace then you need permission to use the lift to go to the 12 or higher floors of a building... Giggle I think its 400-600 ft..always fly LOS and avoid public area...DGCA got problem with flying Bang Head a drone not carrying! Grin Wink

A bit of a late reply, but here's an update:

Faced a bit of a problem with the Pune airport officials, who were not really familiar with what it was...so they asked me to check it in my suitcase. I explained it to them patiently, and told them the batteries were in the check in baggage. They agreed and I carried it in hand without a hitch.

On the way back, the Delhi airport guys didn't even bother asking me what it was...seems like they were well familiar with quads.

All in all, no hitches faced while travelling.

I also plan to travel to Goa from Kolkata by flight and was planning to bring along my Tbs Quadcopter. This info has given me some confidence but I am still a bit skeptical. Would checking everything into luggage be a better option?

Shudn't be a problem....if you aren't worried about putting it in your check in baggage, then go for it....I prefer to hand carry mine.

There is no problem carrying any RC controlled vehicle (as cabin baggage) and the battery (Lipo) provided it fits within the specified cabin baggage weight and dimension criteria of the airline. Check-in also safe just get a fragile sticker.
This is from my experience with helis and DJI Phantom.
