Fighting the odds
Tweet
Have been contemplating over the last week, at how much odds we fight against to keep our hobby alive.
Not being overly pessimistic, but I have a feeling, that just about everything around is ( leaving a few gems ), is anti-hobby.
Hard to find time from work , and then from home/family , then sourcing the gear or waiting for stocks to come, and ultimately to finding a place to fly and train/learn .
Final nail in the coffin is the weather !

+1 Gaurav. Add to that the space constraint. Every night, working out of the living room, messing it up and then having to put it all away at 2AM so that you don't wake up to the mess.............

Re: Fighting the odds
Place to fly seems to be an issue with many flyers here in Pune after the Gliding Center closed its doors to public. Many are flying in treacherous conditions
Some flyers have put their models in hibernation mode (including me). Some have taken up photography as their new hobby !

+1 VC. Space is a big issue as well. How many times have we been saddened to see hangar rashes on our airplane, just because of constant re-arrangement to make space !
Place to fly and to source stuff ( issues with customs etc ) of course tops the list.
I have just come to wonder, that how much we should celebrate each of our flights.
Oh of course, this whole thread applies to the common Indian. Many are immune to one ore more of the issues above

Agree to all the points - space to fly, space to keep models, time, money ..
For me, flying in the morning is the only option. Rest of the time, either there are children around or some cricket/football matches. Plus, in the afternoon/evenings, its too windy, so hardly any fun that time.
So mornings 6 AM you will find me at the ground

aeromodellors should be bachelors that's what you meant by

.. and then from home/family.
. i would go a step further by saying, aeromodellors should remain bachelors, like ABB. As far as flying space and the recent issues you faced has been sorted out, concerned have been spoken to, place is all yours to fly

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !
Re: Fighting the odds
Places to fly can be alleviated to a large extent by switching from planes to helis
For me, the biggest challenge now is finding time to build stuff. I can manage to find the time to go to the field once a week (at least while not on vacation).

Agree, "few" are now "rarest" .
some few unlucky like me . come late from work , no time after 9pm.(do not posses night flying skills)
Only morning is the time felt with us.

Re: Fighting the odds
Getting time for the hobby is also one big challenge, as Anwar says.
This hobby does need a lot of time ! You can work for 10 hours on a project, and still have so much more left to do !
Unfort. with other commitments in life, it leaves only a few hours in a week to actually hit the field !
All I can do is gaze at the skies from the window, or surf the forums in exasperation, and then get jostled by the deadlines and get back to work !
