Hey guys

I m in USA for some time.

Can you help me to decide what RC products should i buy it from here.

Just to give some background ... I already have 2-3 planes, one tri-copter & hitec 6ch 2.4 radio

I am thinking about FPV set up,  9 ch radio or auto pilot system like APM 2.5 but not sure.

If there are tools which are small in size and are very useful for RC and only available in USA i can think about buying that too.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Atul

Nothing can beat visiting a local hobby shop. Do look for some local hobby shops in the area you are staying. These shops do not carry anything and everything but do keep a good stock of routine products, tools and accessories. You will have the pleasure of going through their shelves of things and will be able to touch and compare things in the shop.

Thank you Rahul, Pravesh & Salam.

Any specific link of product will really help me instead of site link.

Salam, I been to one shop and it was great experience but there are so many products so was not able to decide what to buy..

Also i think electronics like motor, ESC & battery are costly here

When i went to singapore same thing happened with me, visited 4 LHS and they were liked stocked with so much stuff man i got crazy, in one of the LHS i spent over one and half hour deciding and the owner was just staring at me. In the end didnt buy anything. Though if any of you visit singapore i suggest that you go to FOOK HAI building near chinatown awesome LHS's have radial engines and a lot of other stuff too, there is a rotary tool shop there too for those precision DIYers Grin. Saving up for the Proxxon FBS 240/E drill for the next time any of my relatives go there Grin.

"When you are not hungry, don't stand in front of refrigerator and ask yourself what you want. You'll end up eating things your body doesn't actually require."

Sorry, but same thing may apply here. If you keep asking, you'll keep getting suggestions, but they may not be actually what you might need. If you ask me what you get from US, I'll most likely tell you something aircraft related. If you ask a heli guy, he'll tell you something heli related, and so on.

You should have asked here long back before you had planned the trip then there would have been sufficient time for you to assimilate the information and decide properly what you would like to buy. Anything you decide now might be out of whim and you may regret your decision later.

Don't waste your dollars now in an effort to save few cents. There are very few things in RC that are not available in hobbyking (and cheaper too).

Here are some points, you may consider
- I m here for more than 2 months so if i get suggestion in from you guys in 4 to 6 weeks then also it will work
- Even if this post does not help me it will help someone down the line or to me also next time Smiley
- Well items like 9x radio are hard to get through Indian customs.. My experience is its easy when carry along

With all that again I partly agree with what you say and there is good possibility that i will just come back empty hand and pocket full of $ Smiley

Thank you,

Bumping an old thread. With the rules now getting even strict, is it still a good idea to get RC stuff from US?

I have a DJI Phantom 3 which I need to gift someone in India, is it too much of hassle to get it there?

Would not get one , but if you are a adamant to do so , do the following
- keep the radio in a different bag
- keep the propellers in a different bag
- disassemble the quad
- batteries (dont know if they will allow it )
- declare it as toy .

I dont know if this will work , have read a few posts mentioning the same . Best of luck

Okay. So your recommendation is to avoid it. I also have a devo 7e and some micro helis and quads. Would those be an issue as well?

Anyone else who has done this recently? Please chime in.... Thanks.

I just moved into the states from India. I had two check-in bags of only RC stuff like goggles,lipo(<100Wh), FPV planes all from rcb, Vtx , radio etc.. no issue in customs and i have an other bag coming in with few quad frame i left behind. there is no issues while coming into US from India but while getting stuff from here into India would be a big problem. But once when i was coming in into India, i just filled out the customs form and no customs check all the machines were closed and just walk out. didnt matter if a bag full of drugs passed by. also i know a friend who got caught in customs for getting in a P3P and inspire, he had to send it back.
hope it helped.

Two years back i was coming from Singapore , a lady in front of me had a 400 size heli , the custom people dint even bat a eye . Last year when i was coming back from indonesia , i saw a quad being seized . It really depends upon your luck and who the custom officer is .

Notice that sanjayrai55 has deleted his post (reply#11)

Since I'm not into FPV etc, what would I get from USA?
Nothing.
RC Aunt, my better half, will return this month end after visiting my daughter and sister.
My brother in law, who has now graduated to 50cc etc, asked what he should sent.
Answer: Nothing. No radio, no drone.
Perhaps the old OS90 four stroke he no longer uses...
Could motivate me to build my 1996 kit Goldberg Anniversary Cub.

Why get into customs hassles when you can get most stuff here?
Just get small things one can't get here.
Like left handed scissors, a small one egg frying pan, rubber strip for rubber powered models, a few sheets of sub 6lbs/cuft contest balsa, thin wall tapered CF arrow shafts...
