Title: Competition for forum Members
Post by: rcforall on August 19, 2009, 06:27:05 PM
Hi Guys ,
Was just thinking is there some way we can have some sort of competitions for forum members .
One that struck me is scratch builders original design.
Could be adaptation of an existing plan  but needs to have originality.

Could any one come up with any other ideas ?

Addition to Scratch built and original design special point should be the weight.
Lightest and strongest?

the idea can be modified to the best extraordinary scratch built design

1) speciality of the design (water proof, crashproof, lightweight max 1kg, efficient cooling)
2) should fly and atleast 5 mins of flight time
3) originality (by this we mean whats new in your design)
4) simplicity
5) cost
6) what all can it do with little mod for eg: from beginner plane to 3d to pattern and whatever you can think of

thats all that came to my mind

That is cool .

What about something like Junk yard wars where you can use  broken and scrap lying around to  build a flying plane ?
Like this one  made by Venkat  after his  exams over the week end :

http://www.rcindia.org/self-designed-diy-and-college-projects/pipe-dream-pylon-racer(very-fast)/msg1009/#msg1009

The fuse pipe was  our packing material for carbon  fiber rods
Wing was  4 mm bio foam lying around
Tail was 3 mm coro again lying around

Sure  looks to be fun thing to do  , so two ideas already there for the competition :

1) Scratch Build  design concept
2) Junk Yard Wars

Keep it coming guys we could make this interesting .

What say  ;D

One important  criterion for Junk Yard wars .
The major components of the planes have to be from different models , not an old beaten up full model

Also, include how the models will be judged. For example, they could be judged based on materials used, weight, design, how clean the build is, etc and finally a flight. All online via pics and videos.

What about a category for beautiful finishing and/or scale details in foam models ? I see a lot of ugly foam model pics posted here(ok ok, everybody's baby is beautiful to them) but I have also been amazed by some of the foam models done by the Dr from Delhi. People tend to have the impression that EPS/EPP models cannot be good lookers, but everytime I see Dr's models, I yearn to get into electrics again.

Sure there are many competitions possible :

1) Scratch build Classic  : beauty , grace , scale , attention to details , finish etc from  available plans
2) Scratch build Innovators : innovative design , out of the box thinking , exotic aircraft like VTOL's , build what you  can imagine : let imagination run wild
3) Junk yard wars : Pull out junk from your  hanger and build a plane with what is available from scrap  , one condition the wing and the fuse should not be from the same plane originally

These  should I think  satisfy all types of scratch builders.

These competition could run simultaneously or spaced out depending on the vote may be .
They should have registration , time frame for submissions etc .

Anwar and a few  around could  decide on the rules etc  and  launch .

Judging could be by open vote , just a thought total votes minus 1 ( assuming the participant will vote for himself )

We should have something related to flying as well!!

Lets start with  building , flying  could  come later as it would require us to physically meet where as building  can be done  by Video  and photos .

Life can be unfair sometimes  ;) ;D

Guys ,
I think the safest bet to start and understand how rules have to be worked out framed and tried would be the Junk yard wars Or Scratch build innovators .
I am willing to sponsor a 2212/13 brushless combo as a price or even Subu was saying he would like to sponsor something on the forum.

Is this competition basically for electric only pls clarify. As no mention of nitro or gas any where.

Anyway a good start

Sure we can have  a competition for nitro and gas as well  flying  would be better I think  as most in the nitro gas segment are ARF's  and not so much in terms of scratch build as that is far more tougher for these planes .
May be you guys should have a F 3 A Video competition ?

Eg  post Videos of your flying in terms of F 3 A regulations and some panel judges them  .

But the competitor has to perform the pattern at his air field in the presence of a forum designated  representative :

eg Chan has to fly in the presence of a  a forum designated rep from Chennai may be like Capt Manish who has to certify that the contents of the Video  are as performed by the Chan in his presence .

Sounds whacky but why not  ;D

May be one of the shops selling ARF's  , Glow engines , Gassers etc could sponsor this competition.

Glow to electric conversions could also be allowed for this competition but not exclusively electric planes
