Title: Is the "search" really efficient?
Post by: Chiragthelegend12 on March 18, 2018, 10:12:24 PM
I have come across many members asking to use the "search".
Apparently, as per my experience the "search" falls to live upto the expected results.
I am not saying that the "search" doesn't work at all, but, mostly it does not live upto the expectations.
E.g. If your search includes a decent amount of same alphabets, or it is a long search, the you are likely to get a result as a long post, in which the alphabets are highlighted separately.
Also, many-a-times the search results do not contain sufficient information.

P.S. I am just sharing my views, don't get anguished.

Allow me to debunk that allegation. Let it not be used as an excuse to flood the forum with more such well worn queries.

I'm using the keywords "Awaiting presentation to customs commissioner" on http://www.rcindia.org/search/

In the search results, the 6th result has the answer I'm looking for.

One may not find usable or sufficient results if they search "purpose of life" over here at rcindia but it's quite clear that long search works just fine and gives sufficient results, especially for beaten to death keywords like the one i used.

When i asked someone to consider using the search box, I knew what i was saying. Because i searched it first and ensured there's a usable answer before trying to guide the user there. Consider that as an instance of venting some without breaking the decorum. People with even shorter fuses would just invoke their inner Buddha before they set out to 'help' or not respond at all.

Yo, when you posted it, I too searched for the answer and got it.
I'm talking in general,  not just your post lol ;D
I myself have searched a few things and got inaccurate results.

well, it does happen sometimes. I too agree on that. I however usually get what i want to know by reducing unessential words.
That works for me mostly.
If i am searching for a specific topic and keywords do not make the cut, i directly search google with the topic name. A link to RCindia comes up usually.
However, even after the shortcomings (most of which can be worked around); the search function is HEAVEN

@prabal276, it's rather upto the person who percives it, and the views may vary greatly.
I respect your thought, though, do not agree to them completely.

@Chirag'thelegend'

Well the search function present in the forum may not do as well as the results from Google, and the adv. shown in youtube/fb, but it does a pretty good job without collecting any data without your permission.

And creating a whole new thread to discuss this, is just called 'hogging'.
It's a hobby forum. Not a general 'view'/'thought' sharing platform, apart from the hobby. No offense meant.

And you could've very well had the conversation through the 'chat function'. Now please don't start finding any shortcomings in that, as well ;D
