Hi , everyone i m new to this forum. i m in the process of assembling quadcopter . i  visited the govt site  digisky to know the required permission for flying the drone. There are so many rule and regulation that no body wants to make a drone or fly the drone as a hobbyist or enthusiastic.
I hv emailed the digisky platform. they told me to go ahead and assemble. BUT my doubt is that can i purchase items required for drone from aliexpress and if so will it be held by custom.
the parts to purchase are  1) frame , FLIGHT CONTROLLER , TELEMETRY , TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER MOTORS AND ESC
iF ANYBODY HAS PURCHASE PL SHARE THE INFORMATION FOR ALL

I've been shopping from aliexpress for more than 5 years now.. You can definitely go for buying stuff from there. All the stuff you order will definitely be held via customs but they seldom open it and check and these days are kind of going forensic... But a few things you must know earlier are that that order will take much time maybe more than a month so you will have to be patient. Because the order comes from china goes to Kolkata to Mumbai to your city. And in many cases, you don't get your stuff (then you get a refund). But particularly in these days, all my packages arrived in fact I received three today!

Thx Mr Yash007 for ur quick response . i recently came across the items which are sold on aliexpress ,their they mentioned that if the the item is held at custom it is the responsibility of  buyer to pay for custom duty. i have also purchased many item recently and i got it but they are not connected with quadcopter. when i browse the digisky platform their it was mentioned that  any item  imported in connection with quadcopter has to be  cleared by WPC  wing.
can u tell me which items u have purchased recently from aliexpress.

I've purchased some electronic modules (not related to any of rc stuff) and that too 12 pieces (more than 1kg !). And no, vaibhavngp, you wont be charged any kind of custom duty, its only applicable for when the order is worth more than INR 10k and even if they have to charge custom duty they wont if your package has a category of 'GIFT' which most of the sellers mention on the packages. Do not worry much you can order from there ,even I'm ordering a lot of rc stuff (just waiting for 11.11 sale Grin )

@shobhit17 sad to hear but It's recommended not to buy stuff which is large in size . And for the refund thingy you can open a dispute, they will definitely give you a refund. What about your indian tracking number check that on the website and see what happened ! Undecided . This happened with me lot of times stuff gets lost while in transit  Giggle so it comes after long time or never but you still get the refund lol !

Thx Thx Mr Yash007 once again . i m trying to build quadcopter with holybro pixhawk 4 flight controller. so whole kit is  around $346 so shall i go ahead with one kit or buy parts saperately which will not attract custom people. why i m sceptical about purchasing is that i have seen many youtube videos their people have mentioned their agony and frustration  when their drones were stuck up at custom. your suggestion in this regard will be highly appreciable. My whole project is stuck up bcoz of rules and regulation.

Hi Vaibhav,

Based on my experience buying from aliexpress and other international sites.

1. Do not buy all parts as a  single orders, split in multiple orders, this will avoid or reduces custom charge, the charges may come 45% charges of the order which includes shipping charges
2. Do not cross 5k INR  for a single orders.
3. Do not order TX/RX from international site, which will be confiscated by Custom.
4. Compare the price from LHS, if the price difference is less than 1k, I prefer buying from LHS.
5. Shipping Duration from Aliexpress is 90days, which is very long time duration and you cant claim from refund.

Well from what I know getting drones and stuff is pretty difficult & I've never ordered something which is that expensive. I'd recommend you to buy stuff separately. I once ordered a drone(with cam) didn't receive it and got a letter from customs for getting permission and stuff which is too sluggish and no one knows if that works. Also when you're buying such stuff,after-sales, warranty, don't consider these because again this is a very sluggish process and you will waste your time. So if all this is okay with you go for it, for such expensive electronics(like flight controller) if the difference amount is not much, buy from some trusted place. for other things(motors, parts, esc, etc), you can definitely use aliexpress.
