The Budding Star Vineet on the photographs above, did two fantastic "SOLO" Flights with his EPP Yak. The Videos are with me but I think appropriate in sending it to the budding Pilot to post himself.

Later Gusty did try to reply to that with his "SO LOW" acrobatic Maneuvers, which ended in a hard crash. The crash turned out to be minor since the plane was repaired in the field and was airborne within 20 Mins and  did three more flights after that. Thanks to the EPP. videos are being encoded will be uploaded soon.

Did some good flying today, it was a kinda show for some big wigs, we flew the following :-

MiG 29, Su 33 MKK, F-22 (White and Green blue), Nitro Katana, Yellow Bird, Flew the FPV (On easy star) Kinetic 800, Su 26, Katana Electric, Yak 54, Addiction, etc

we were flying since morning till Beer stop at 1430 hrs.

Moments were

1 Vs 1 sandy and I
Low flying y F-22, in that, wing tip touch, trying to land on a Human Head R/W :giggle:, Loop landing, Roll Tumble yaw, Kulbits, Rolling turn by the fighter,
3D aeros by addiction, in that hover over the tea poy, blender, rolling turns, torque roll, wall, inverted wall, outside loop, barrel roll, and some conventional aeros.

FPV flying was great, sandy did most of the flying and i watched on my goggles, it was awesome

Yellow bird's engine muffler screw broke she cut at the crucial moment (20 deg past take off direction, had enough R/W to turn align glide and land, put another screw and flew again. Katana flying was great, sandy's Su 26 did some amazing rock steady hover.

Pics and Videos to follow

Good Flying day for addiction, did some real low alt hover, torque rolls, Rolling Harriers, Elevator Stall turn and Blender. Blender was bad, lost direction all the time in stall turn, rolling harrier wasn't smooth rest was ok, here are some snaps (Pardon the mobile pics). Interesting Moments were, Wing Tip Touch on KE, Rudder Kiss the ground in Hover, inverted fin touch (Aeroplane survived :giggle:)

After winds picked up, shelved addiction, started FPV, Setup is easy star , range video cam, CE OSD 1.5 (Gives Height, Speed, Volt, mah, to Home, what more do you need ?)

Did some FPV Flying and FPV Landing (FPV Landing i found much much easier) ,Flying While talking on mobile (FFS) also Left hand on Elev Aileron Stick on Mode 2 flying (Used to do that in real life too, often) while talking on mobile (This time it was serious, it was her !!), great fun , Easy star doesn't need to be flown, she flies herself, soars with engine cut because of up draft winds, here are some pics

PS
She flew for 23 min on a 2600 mah (Consumed 2000 mah), all passers by had a feel of FPV video, this gentleman on pic was ecstatic, wouldn't let anyone else have fun

Good place to hide from the winds is between the trees, best place to practice steady one place hover and torque rolls

PS

Hi Gusty,

You seem to like the Easy Star, I have the same plane in disguise. It's called an AXN and is probably the most popular plane in Australia and New Zealand at the moment. I have one but on one of my rare trips to the field thanks to my friends. The darned plane simply wouldn't start. It worked perfectly at home but at the last minute, Nothing. By the time we found out the receiver had died it was too late to fly. So now it sits in the workshop at the field waiting for me.

I have just completed it's deluxe version, the Bixler. Identical at first glance but look closer and the fuse is a little larger. When you remove the canopy you can see why. The ESC, Receiver and battery can be fitted in side by side across the fuse with room to spare. I had to pour boiling water into it because they hot glued 4 massive and very heavy washers to keep the CG happy. I removed them so I can fit a much larger battery which takes care of the loss of washers. Why didn't they simply supply a larger battery than go to the trouble of fitting 4 steel washers in the nose ?

As with all my planes, I run Filament tape along leading edges, the nose if it's a pusher and along the underside if it's a belly lander. Plus I run a 2inch wide piece of double filament tape, both sides in the center of the main wing for added strength. It's amazing what just two lengths of tape can do to a wing. It removes any unwanted flexing and is as good as an extra spar.
Yes it does increase the weight a little but the tail gets the same treatment. Have you used filament tape? it's a packing tape with many rows of fiberglass imbedded in the tape. It's available with the glass running the length of the tape or running the length and breadth of the tape. Hobbyking have just started selling it. I order one in every order I place because it's about a tenth the price of the same from our hardware store.

I have just finished my bi monthly order from HobbyKing. I have 2 orders with Hong Kong and one with the Aussie warehouse.
I purchased a flying wing plus a suitable motor for it. An RPM sensor which allows you to operate the motor's speed without having to use a transmitter. Plus assorted motors to restock my dwindling collection, spare shafts and mounting kits and a collection of receivers and ESCs. I hate runnong out of anything. 2 days ago I received an email to tell me the altitude sensor for the Eagle Tree system had finally arrived so I ordered that on the spot in case they vanished before today.

Then I started on the Aussie warehouse to buy assorted batteries, a few more motors, ESCs etc.

Sorry have to go. My wife wants to check here banking  All the best mate  Stu

One of the best location for slope soaring and the same has been marked on GE, if anyone wants to slope soar in the future even in a real life glider. plenty of Orographic lifting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orographic_lifting). valley on all three sides so you could soar on anyside depending on the winds. Here is the video, few things about the video
(a) the place you see in front its bangladesh,
(b) see 0:55 onwards there is dive and almost engine off climb along the valley face, there was a very funny incident, i have cut out that video though (Sandy will explain)
(c) some low flying 1:55 onwards to show the planes of the table top.
(d) you can see the wing flex of the ES in a loop, once landed there was a 1" crack on the wing root because of too much of 'G' force

"If there is a Heaven on earth, It is here, It is here, It is here" - Jehangir. he said so about Kashmir, probably he didnt visit Shillong

Atul
I was waiting for the comment, if you notice, it wasn't landing, it was the orographic lift which so strong and near vertical that the moment you hit the rimof the valley the wing lifted up and she rolled over. that is when you really miss no aileron on easy star -I. well i dont remember this easy star doing a real landing, i have tried mostly human landing ;D catch landing or such funny thing with it.

A very good challenge for me, as I don`t like to fly on a high cliff or slope,  ... what if my plane went deep down into a Jungle !!! :-/ , But I ought to overcome that, as all we have around us is full of cliff es and thick forest hehe....

zonuna

there are so many what if's in life, what if one gets hit by a truck ? :banghead: unless we shed the fear and fly we wont learn. i have seen aeromodellors who have been flying for over 2-3 decades flying straight and level maximum some loops and rolls and that's it. they wasted their 30 years on this what ifs?

your visit is due to shillong ;D

How do you transport or store an "Easy star" (the one rcpilotacro flying) I am asking this because I believe the main wing has to be Glued/fixed on the fuse. As the wing cannot be taken apart later on, how do you guys transport this plane ?

Title: Re: Activities of RC enthusiasts at Shillong
Post by: rcpilotacro on August 22, 2012, 09:43:18 PM
no, you can very well take out the wing, for easy star -I it is even easier, there are no servos to attach, wing interlock like a glove. dont talk about my ES wing :giggle: it needs to be glued, very much ;)

Title: Re: Activities of RC enthusiasts at Shillong
Post by: zonuna on August 22, 2012, 09:48:48 PM
;D but the easy star my friend got from RCbazaar needs to have ailerons, the main wing does not have an options for any kind of Screw to tighten it.

the easy star my friend got from RCbazaar

That is not an easy star, it is Sky Surfer, though they look, feel, weigh the same one is an other Lamborghini and the ambassador (I mean is easy star is par execellence). Even that one interlocks, but i believe it comes off in flight, ( i have bought four of them, none have come out in flight) you can Velcro both the wings by sticking male and female Velcro on either side of the wing and as you push it in it sticks together, many such methods are available

Thats exactly i follow with my ES likes. My eagle wing has bigger wing span and cannot come in my car fitted, it occupies full rear seat that too kept at an angle. it cannot come in trunk. when I have company I have to remove the wings to keep in trunk.

opps, why am I always addressing as ES ... ok Sky Surfer, Velcro ?? I hope the velcro is strong enough to hold the wings, never tried that with the wings.
BTW rcpilotacro my quad from RCD has arrived today, where can I download an instructions and software for it.
I think I`ll be needing lot of your help  ;D  :headscratch:

Motivated by Sam's Yak (http://www.rcindia.org/electric-planes/hk-epp-yak-54/), took my yak out of hibernation, good to fly foamies once in a while. here are some pics clicked by vineet.

This one has Hoffman Magnetics Super Sport motor, one good motor, ample thrust, slightly expensive motors though, these Hoffman Magnetics

wow, multi blade chopper! looks like a 4 blade one

I am planning on building one myself. Can we use a normal 2 blade tail rotor with a 4 blade main rotor? I am thinking there will not be enough tail authority because of the low RPM. I could not find a multi blade tail at HK

neat vid by param, I wonder how you blindly manoeuvred it around the tree ???

Param always shoots very nice videos, that was even when he was much younger he was my reliable cameraman. Only problem is that he chatters a lot while shooting it. You should hear some of his comments. Most of it I always delete.

It was never blind around trees. I had taken a few step ahead to keep it at sight, it was only param who was behind at the blind spot for a fraction of seconds.

How do you transport or store an "Easy star" ..I believe the main wing has to be Glued/fixed on the fuse.

No Zonuna, it doesn't have to be, it is removable. (Sorry, i saw the question now, somehow missed it)

Back to basics

after flying 3D for so long continuously, realized my basic flying had taken a back seat. today was pattern aeros, Circuit & Landing, for 3 hrs. Satisfied..

PS
Had a an Aileron servo failure, the instance it failed my Frsky Telemtry went crazy sounding an alarm, landed changed the servo and went again. Saved by the Bell ;D

On 19th of this month I had the wonderful opportunity to meet pravesh736 here in Shillong

Great guy !!!! I was all admiration for Pravesh, at such young age  for the passion he shared for the hobby and the extent to which he was well read and  knowledgeable in the hobby, and the warmth in his humble unassuming interaction which I shared with him.

I was impressed with his control on quad flying.

Happy flying Pravesh. Rain god played spoil sport that day. Hope in future we will be flying FPV formation some day.

I too had the pleasure of interacting with this fine young man. He came over last Sunday and spent hours flashing my boards and teaching me how about Quad behaviour. His knowledge of Multi Rotors is so deep that I found myself floundering, out of depth. Given the fact that he is old enough to be my son, it was a humbling feeling and also one of pride. I learnt very little though, as 90% of what he was trying to tell me went over my head. It will take me a few years to reach the level that he considers as 'Basic'. Profound.

It was a wonderful experience to see him fly his 450 size Quad to perfection inside my withdrawing room. I, of course, had my heart in my mouth and forgot to shoot a video.

Thanks to him, I now have a set of 6ESC's flashed with Simon K and I am dying to start the Hexa build. However, I have promised myself not to start till I finish 2 boats that I am struggling with.

Need to sleep early as he is dropping in to see me at 6:30 am tomorrow, on his way to the airport.

Thanks again for EVERYTHING and hope to learn lots from you Pravesh.

If you think he's well versed with quads, wait till you talk to him about cars.

That guy knows his stuff and he sure can drive. Needless to say, he's a great guy to be with.

No wonder he was flying his Quad with such high rates of yaw. His quad was almost Drifting and Skid Turning in air just like a car  :giggle: :giggle: :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

Even i need to say thanks a lot to Pravesh  :thanks: because when i brought new turnigy 9XR with Frsky i was very confused to bind the Frsky module and receiver because the receiver was glowing solid green and i thought it should be red, later i took help from Pravesh. I was really shocked when i saw his video of flying 450mm spider H quad in night like 3D flying amazing  :hatsoff:

He indeed has a good deep knowledge about quads, and at the same time he is very humble person too.
