Has anyone tried this tiny air strip:

http://maps.google.co.in/maps?q=Air%20strip%20%40IISC&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl

Being an educational institution, people may get support. But recent security scare at the campus may have exactly opposite reaction.

anybody game to do a ground survey there ?

You can not even access that, without prior permission. Especially after the terror attack there few years back.
I think Eshawar from ENR Bangalore and people who fly with him can fly there. From what I know if you turn up before Eshawar you have to wait, till he is there and leave with him.

I am a Corogamist!

I used to fly there with Eshwar. That was back in 2004. Now, I see a lot of developement around the place. Not very safe to fly nitro aircrafts.

Yes, its true that Mr.Eshwar should be there for the gurad to allow people fly. It was a bit of pain but was managable. I heard that there is no flying nowadays in that air strip.

I was there a couple of weeks back.
Mr Eshwar does training for IISC students on Sundays. (Also his other students fly there).

However there is log book where you have to enter your details. And if you go in a car may be a security check of the vehicle.
I do not remeber if I flashed my DL.
You can enter only if Mr Eshwar has signed in.
I guess you can fly only if Mr Eshwar approves.

Lot of buldings have come up near the strip. (esp campus expansion)
They fly mostly nitro.

This is terribly outrageous. A kind of 'License Raj'. Just shows how incapable the authorities are out there for entitling people with conflicting interest, leading to act of omission and commission.

This brings me to another truth about Bangalore state of affair. Just like I used to think Bangalore as 'Beer Capital', which it is really not due to 11 o'Click Gag order, Bangalore is not the 'Aeromodeling' capital of the country , as I used to maintain, due to lack of accessible air strip for common people like me.
Maybe places like Hyderabad  and even otherwise sleepy Allahabad are better. My be my home town further east to it.

God save the hobby.

Mr. Eshwar has been doing this since last more than 10 - 15 years and also works designing and building models for NCC, IISC depts. Thats the connection  - at least from what I've heard from him some 10 years back. But some one posted recently about open space at E-city. In fact the road that goes from B'gatta road to E-City has a lot of open space which we could use without creating a problem for the local ppl there.

Lots of misinformation. I have gone to IISc airfield a "million" times on Sats and Suns. All you have to do is sign the register while getting in and out. That's all. No one questions you. You do not need any permission to fly there. The only problem are the curious laborours. They get too close to the show and kind of very annoying.

Are you sure that we can simply enter and fly? I've been told that only Mr.Eshwar can get permission for ppl to fly there.

Yes, it needs permission to fly there, Mr. Eshwar has got permission to fly there. People  can access the field for one or few sunday by filling the log book at main gate (if security misunderstood you are flying with Mr.Eshwar).
but i dont think for long time. Also lots of building around, very very dangerous for beginners, If some one crashes the model inside the forest around the field it is next to impossible to rescue their model...

I do not fully agree. I have no had issues going there every now and then. The security personal were nice too. I am a living proof. However, I do agree with msri21, it could get dangerous for beginners if they do it alone. I have seen many crashes happening there and even heard about a about police case that happened due to crash in a nearby hospital from Mr. Eshwar. If you are flying a park flyer (micro RCs), it should be okay but if anything bigger then a more experienced person should be accompanied. The problem that is if any property gets damaged or if people get hurt, it can get really bad. And as told earlier the labourers are a big menace.

@bs_sunil
Nice to hear that you fly at IISC.
Would definitely love to explore this again.

Two quick questions..
1. What do you enter in the "To Meet" field in the security log book ?
2. Do you have any model/parts which you have purchased from E N R ?

With campus expansion, new buildings and construction I fear this is going to be a dead field for RC soon.
However in the meanwhile lets explore the possibilities..

@Drone -
1. I just enter visitor to Aerospace dept, my car no. and other details...Sometime the security asks me where I am going and I tell him I am visiting the air field.
2. Yes, I have bought from Mr. Eshwar but never mentioned his name. The security has never seen me with him...and I have been to IISc airfield even before I met Mr. Eshwar. I was flying an electric RC.
