RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

The Jakkur airfield is the primary location for RC activity in Bangalore.  One has to get an aeromodeler identification card from the authorities though.

Lots of action every Sunday morning.

We've presently been stopped from using the Jakkur airfield from the Jakkur authorities for the reasons best known to them.
Hopefully this will be resolved shortly.
Will update very soon

Hi Guys, i was walking through GKVK [opp jakkur airstrip] and saw that the ground there is about ~2sqkm area. one circle to it will be about 600mt.  thought that since people are allowed to use it freely, maybe you guys could shift ur location from jakkur to this place?
i don't know this hobby, but am starting off soon.  Smiley

So what are the new restrictions ?  Can people without the "aeromodeller card" not enter the field at all any more ?

You certainly cannot fly without a card. Cops are expected to be the prowl for people without cards. There is a visitor card scheme for visitors.

Thanks for the update.

And people can fly on a visitor card ?  Or is it just for visiting the field ?

Looking for an update on this.  What does the visitor card allow one to do, and how easy (or difficult) is it to get a visitor card ?

I was hoping that the entire "RC Locations" board would serve that purpose, with each post representing a line in the mega list you suggested.

Also for everyone's information am was told to get the below which i am planning to do to go to Jakkur for flying

1. Address proof e.g passport, voters id, driving licence of bangalore
2. 2 passport size photographs
3. a D.D of Rs. 1000/- can't remember the name on which it has to be made i sure others will put their inputs.

the same needs to be given to adarsh. Then it will need to be put up and within about a month the jakkur authorities approve the application. You will be allowed to fly at jakkur.

@ anwar,
i think vistors are allowed but with prior permission check with adarsh

Hi all,

the thread is very specific about requirements to fly, thanks for that. Are there any requirements to come as a visitor?

I intend to get into heli RCs but before I shell out money I'd love to spend some time with you guys and pick your brains about what to buy (I'm thinking single rotor 4CH right now) and where, availability of spares etc.

I stay close to the old airport so getting to Jakkur only to find out that I can't get in touch with you guys or no one is there would be quite sad.

Will anyone be in Jakkur this upcoming Sunday 15th August?

Take care,
Dominique

There are no requirements for a visitor, just tag along with a flier and you'll be taken care of in case the cops come checking. Give me a call if you need help.

I don't recall a single sunday morning when there was nobody at the field. You'll find somebody there for sure. The distance might seem long to you now, but once the aeromodeling bug bites you, you'll be looking forward to it. People come from much farther away every weekend. I myself drive from old airport rd and outer ring rd intersection.

Cool! Another Heli Freak!  Grin Welcome Dominique to RCI. BTW, if you are serious abt RC, its better you consider getting into a 6 Channel heli. If Rajesh(RotorZone) is going to jakkur this week end, then better stay with him, Nice guy and will help you out. I wish I could come to jakkur, but I am busy for few more weeks.

Jakkur has organized (should I say access controlled) flying.

Every Flight is a test & every Crash is a Lesson.

Adarsh(Bond) told me "Go meet people in government flying training school at Jakkur air field. They'll do the need ful. You'll have to give an application for permission to do aeromodelling. Once it's approved, they'll give you an I'd card."

Sounds good. I will be going to make my aeromodeller's ID card this Sunday, I need all the advice I can get. Smiley Open to anyone's opinions.

That was yesterday. As per today, RC flying in Jakkur is totalyl stopped and the oldtimers are flying in Hoskote on Old Madras road, some 25KM from the city.
The good thing is that you can fly all days of the week unlike only on Sunday as in Jakkur. The Bad thing is that there is no Runway laid yet, so unless you are skilled in takeoff/landing, this field is mostly 'Foamie only' for the the while.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=104956515083791434556.00048068e7fb610747ea7&t=h&z=14

We usually fly there on Sundays 7AM till -3 PM evening. Couple of folks also go on Saturdays and other days. You may have a quick sync up with flyer there on the FB community:

Start of Flying school at Jakkur I suppose, have stopped RC flyers in Jakkur.

I have been to all the places of flying in Bangalore including IISc. and I find Hoskote as best option. Best thing about Hoskote is you need not to worry about permissions, just go there and start flying. People who have been flying at Hoskote are more than helpful. see my posts here:

Find any difficulty in reaching there, can contact ever ready to help Ujjwaana. or even me.

Guys how about giving some money to the farmers there and to get a cricket pitch like runway done? It will be good to have a level ground which is the only thing missing there. Not sure whether this will lead to any other complications though  Head Scratching

Folks can now contact Jakkur old timers like Adarsh, Abhay, Raghavendra, Sanjeev, Prithvi for direction and help as they are too shifting their base to Hoskote

Foamy, there are already a plan to get a JCB and roller and properly lay to orthogonal earthern runways. We would be putting the initiating very soon.

As People posted here , lot of action is at Hoskote Lake Bed, its bit crowded on weekends , and less activity on week days. Seems best place for flying....

as for map :
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=104956515083791434556.00048068e7fb610747ea7&t=h&z=14&dg=feature

Directions : Old Madras Road, just before Hoskote or you see sign of " TOLL GATE AHEAD " take service lane  and ask for Huskur " village - the flying place is next outside the village.
