Title: Mahalakhsmi clearance
Post by: sushil_anand on April 13, 2010, 05:36:03 PM
Thanks to the efforts of some of our aeromodellers, approval to fly has been granted subject to some strict provisions. The most important being RFID member cards as well as RFID tags on each airplane. The entry and exit times will be recorded by a reader. The logistics of this will need to be worked out.

Will keep you all posted as things progress.

Nice Sushil!! Bangalore flyers are not so lucky, even after such earnest effort by Mr Aadarsh to enable more people, the erring Jakkur authorities (Govt after all!!) are delaying the card issuance like hell. Many of us applied in Oct 2009 are yet to get the ticket.

RFID on planes !! Thats sounds 21st century!! great effort by the club towards letting right people out of trouble. Just curious about membership charges and per plan top up (as each plane needs RFID tag, may be few cents in US, premium in the country).

Thats good news  :)

But I wonder, how will the RFID thing work. It means any new plane needs to have a separate RFID? So oe has to register each plane when bought? :headscratch:

Ujjwaana, Shrikant, Koladia and others who will have similar queries.

It is early days yet. As I said, the logistics need to be worked out. Initial cost is expected to be 1,500 per member. I don't expect the tags themselves to be expensive. Problems will arise and solutions will be worked out. For example, who will do the reading/scanning? Where will the equipment be kept?

All this will take some time. Let things move forward and will give you updates as and when I get to know.

Hello Zonuna

Flying at Mahalakshmi is restricted to Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Timings are from 09:00 till 1 1/2 hours before the start of the first race of the day.

You can walk in but if in a vehicle, entry may be restricted as fliers need an ID card. I will verify if they would allow your vehicle if it is not carrying an aircraft.

Hey there rc community.
I have recently got into this hobby and have been flying my quadcopter since the past three months. I want to know if I can continue practicing my skills at mahalaxmi race course. And also I plan to test and tune a new drone that I plan to make.

Sorry. Drones and copters are a no-no at Mahalakshmi.

Why is it so? Like can I go at some other time or day and fly in the field in between? If not can you suggest of any fly zone for drones?

It is the decision of the Police who have given us provisional clearance. Please do NOT jeopardise this by flying these in ANY public place. This could very well result in our flying being banned permanently.

Ohkay fine, I am not trying to steal your chances from practicing your hobby so calm down. I was just asking cause I've seen people record aerial videos from there. All I was asking if you'd happen to know of any other groups who fly drones.

Drones for photography and other applications are allowed by prior police registration and clearance.

Fixed wing flying at Mahalakshmi is now only for registered members with ID cards.

Appreciate that you may well be a sensible person. We have, unfortunately, to seriously worry about the majority who are not.

I hope this puts things into the correct perspective.

The drones they used were not something anyone would take the hassle to have registered. As they were of type which enthusiaists have made and recorded.

Please fly and get more people interested in the hobby, only then can there be hope for all lesser mortals who fear red tape !

So officially as of 29/04/2017 the ban on flying UAV has been lifted in Bombay. So now I can pretty much come and fly at racecourse right? Iam ready to pay whatever membership prices as I know the money would help in budding the hobby.
