Dear Nithinraj,

You cannot use a place with vicinity to  live runway to fly rc planes. As Jamshedpur is a private runway belonging to TataSteel and has no scheduled flights, we can use them with proper permissions.

Today did the first Flight of the Quad that I built. It took me one week to complete this Quad.
Specs are :

Dji 450 frame.
APM 2.5 board
GPS Ublox 6h
Power distributor.

Flew in my garden and was great. Default settings were used. Will do further flight modes this week. Planning to mount a camera and see it's stability.

Hi Roshan,
The Cessna costs around Rs 3500 for the frame and motor. Esc, servos and receiver are extra. It is a good scale model but advice is that it is a good second model. Start with something like Bixler, easy star etc.

Update on my Quad 450:

After the maiden, took it to the Airport for further checks. I reduced the pitch and roll gain from 4.85 to 3.3. The overcorrections in my first flight went away. However it was more sluggish now and due to wind factor, the controls requirements were much more dynamic.
I then gave a trial of Alt hold. It stayed for some time and then started going up slowly. I came back to stab mode and hovered. Then I went to loiter mode. It was stable for some time and then suddenly went full power up. I recovered and landed the Quad.
When I checked further the problem was the barometer reading fluctuations. I modified it with a box and some mods to gps mounting. The readings look promising in the ground. Will take some flights tommorrow.  Photos attached.

THANK YOU ASUPAN FOR YOUR ADVICE :-)but I need to know where did you get the Cessna from??  And where can I get the bixler in India....??  also facing a problem with my apm 2.5 in loiter mode my 450 dosen't seems to hold its position!!  Any help where as in stabilize mode it flies without any problem!

The Cessna was from Hobbycenter, Kolkata. Bixler can be from hobbyking and easystar from Rcdhamaka. You can try another similar one available in rcbazaar.
Cover the apm with black foam and a box as I did. The barometer is sensitive to light and the air from props. Covering within a box helps. I get very stable values now .

Tested my quad today with good results from barometer. The Alt hold is good now after the above mods.  The aircraft is very stable now. Tuned the PID a little. The next problem is to set the 3DR telemetry as the range I am getting is a few meters only.

Here is a link to the video of the flight. Tested the alt hold mode which was quite stable. When I gave Loiter command towards the end, it started drifting to the right. Will do some further testing next week.

ASUPAN same drifting phenomenon occurs with my quadcopter too!  Please tell me if you have any solution?!

Well, I crashed the Multirotor as one of the blades broke in midair. One broken arm and landing gear. I will replace and then do further testing. In the mean time I have come across some topics where they attribute this to noise in the surrounding area of apm. I plan to put a layer of aluminum foil on the  inside of the box. This will hopefully give better results.

The steps to get it right is 1st you should fly in the alt hold mode properly, then to go to Loiter and then RTL and finally Auto modes.

Will post the results as I do further testing of APM.

Asupan i think the 450 frame we are using with integrated pcb isn`t the most suitable frame for the apm 2.5 as when ever i try to fly with stabilize mode the craft flies excellent but the moment when i flip to loiter things get complicated and the craft behaves un-usual and starts drifting and looses altitude !!!! will try the reptile 550 or the 600 !

My Multirotor is back in action. The broken stand repaired.

I have moved to testing the Simple mode in operation on the APM 2.5. Works like a charm. The Altitude holds are perfect now. The telemetry module is 433mhz 3dr. The  range I was getting was a max of 2 m. It was due to interferance of USB bus. I am now getting very good range.

Simple mode??

Title: Re: RC Flying in Jamshedpur
Post by: asupan on July 08, 2014, 07:16:45 AM
Simple mode is a selection in the Flight mode menu, what it does is that irrespective of which direction the quad is pointing the forward is fixed with respect to where it started from. So if you have a camera  mounted pointing  forward and while in flight you changed the direction of quad so that it points to you now then in simple mode the quad will still move away from you when you give forward stick. This uses the on board compass to enable this feature.

There is a super simple mode that uses gps and is even better as the simple mode has its own problem if it pass you and is behind you.

Look at the internet and you will find a lot of writeup.

Cheers

Flying my super mini Topksy.  Had a lot of fun with it. It even picked up a thermal and flew for more than 6  min. was getting some thermals over the runway which I  realised after about 20 launches.

The video is attached.

some exciting flying yesterday with maiden flight of our twin boom stealth   design  plane.   The color  however  is not black.

It has a single wheel and not meant for ROG takeoff.  Fully symmetrical wing  so the plane was very agile on the banks.  over all a  good take off and landing at the end.  photos of it attached.

some more photos of our New Helis.

Hello...

I am Sumantra from Jamshedpur. I have keen interest in RC plane flying.

Just wanted to ask Mr Ashutosh that, if you people are still flying your model planes on sunday. If so I am verymuch interested to join you guys. However I am very new to this hobby and want to learn a lot from you experienced people. Currently I have bought a RC Plane WX 8809B. But could not help to fly it for once. think there is some problem with it's balance or something else. Actually it is not taking off from ground. Also I have tried for hand launching.. Both the option failed. It is a 4 engine plane and 1 engine is not working due to crash.

Any way, I would be glad to meet you guys. Please let me know if you are going to fly your models on this next sunday i.e. 10th may' 15.

Thanks

It was designed and printed by Rajvansh, one of our Club member. He has now made 2 models including a glider.
