Title: Where to fly in Chennai
Post by: rcrcnitesh on January 15, 2014, 04:27:48 PM
Hello to all,
I was thinking when I get my elecs where should I fly.
I contacted RC4all and the y told that the kovalam flying field is shut as of some reasons. I also asked about sholavaram they told I'll have to travel 3hrs. just to fly for 10mins.
I contacted Chan from RotorSport about the RCPA field they told it's functioning but only on sundays I asked for a google maps link they didn't reply after that.

So I was thinking where could one fly their planes except Sholavaram Flying field.

Does anyone know the route to RCPA field from Eldams road Please post.

Feeling angry why nitro so costly.

I was thinking to fly at Gopalapuram ground near sathyam https://www.google.co.in/maps/preview#!q=Gopalapuram+Play+ground&data=!1m4!1m3!1d1186!2d80.2577164!3d13.051853!2m1!1e3!4m51!2m11!1m10!1s0x3a526638df312b33%3A0xd90eed4999a69178!3m8!1m3!1d432!2d80.2577164!3d13.051853!3m2!1i1366!2i642!4f35!5m38!1m37!1sgopalapuram+ground!4m8!1m3!1d207956!2d80.2069211!3d13.0340798!3m2!1i1366!2i642! (https://www.google.co.in/maps/preview#!q=Gopalapuram+Play+ground&data=!1m4!1m3!1d1186!2d80.2577164!3d13.051853!2m1!1e3!4m51!2m11!1m10!1s0x3a526638df312b33%3A0xd90eed4999a69178!3m8!1m3!1d432!2d80.2577164!3d13.051853!3m2!1i1366!2i642!4f35!5m38!1m37!1sgopalapuram+ground!4m8!1m3!1d207956!2d80.2069211!3d13.0340798!3m2!1i1366!2i642!).
But cricketers so I asked all my friends who visit there regularly about it they told it is empty from 2 to 4 but very windy.

Post by: chintal on January 15, 2014, 05:30:43 PM
you can go to omr road
lots of empty beaches and barren land ahead big enough to fly even planes
the biggest one i have seen is in kelambakkam near whispering villas almost 3kms of empty land!!!!!!!!!!!
but its too far away if you stay in city 1.5 hr drive....

Title: Re: Where to fly in Chennai
Post by: rcrcnitesh on January 15, 2014, 08:26:06 PM
OMR Very far and many tolls are there on the way It should be windy I guess because of sea very close to it.
BTW When did you come to Chennai

Title: Re: Where to fly in Chennai
Post by: chintal on January 15, 2014, 08:53:17 PM
nope not so windy the place i am telliing you is almost 6km away from beach empty plots are their
you will have to pay only one toll if you are coming from marina beach
its worth it stayed der for one year for studying

just search this in google
12.804802,80.202931
and look at it in satellite view

Title: Re: Where to fly in Chennai
Post by: rcrcnitesh on January 15, 2014, 09:07:51 PM
I am going with only one plane and am going to learn to fly

Title: Re: Where to fly in Chennai
Post by: chintal on January 15, 2014, 09:12:00 PM
well then best place to go
their will be no one
empty plots
and the small lake that you see in maps is dried out
and their is short grass so no need to worry of crashes
no tress also
i guess you wont find such huge place anywr else
i would advice you to buy a lipo charger which works with car battery
so you can charge on field........
the higher amps the faster you will be able to charge

Its very far from your reside.Look for near by area.

Reason

For minutes or hour flying travelling long is vain.

As beginner if you crash then whole day vain.

Actually , when well equipped with snacks and water you can go long distance with 2-3 planes and 6-7 batteries to fly for whole day. but you will eventually get tired and Dizzy, so for flying an hour or two, a drive of 20-30 mins is worth in my opinion.
This place suits me good and i charge my batteries from my car's Cigarette lighter output and fly for 2-3 hours continuous.

Johnny,

I cannot say about the performance of this plane, But i can say its crash proof(Not virtually but really)
I have a 6x and 7x props that you can try. they are rock solid strong and good in performance.
Make sure to paint it with some marker of good colors like red and green to make it visible for this size.
Good luck.

Hi janarthan..
Mostly we fly on Sunday morning .. 'll let you know or we can come down to velachery railway ground as it will be near to few of us.. this weekend I am not in town.. you can check with v2eagle and moorthy whether they are flying this weekend or not..

Title: Re: Where to fly in Chennai
Post by: v2 eagle on March 29, 2014, 12:52:11 AM
Velachery railway ground is crowded most of time and might put the whole hobby in trouble on the slightest mishap,
also think about the railway lines and the sparks generated could cause lot of glitches, also i worry about the cops.
find some suitable open ground(I know I know its hard to find any near velachery :banghead: :banghead:) or you can come to this ground where we fly. i can assure you that it will be fun here when we fly together.

Ive got no planes to fly this weekend, got into few commitments and locked up for now. will be regular from next weekend, over to moorthy for now.

Janarthan..

So you were there with a sky surfer ??

The new ground is just 1 km from there in the left side.. its a dried lake with foot long tall grass.. next time we will go there..

here is the pic of that lake...

Yes i was there with skysurfer and 2 more models. This is 1km before the old field or after ?  Am coming from medavakkam side.

Medavakkam as in VIT side right? Then it is a before. You will see a petrol bunk over there and just after the bunk there is a bridge and the field is in the right side from the bridge.

Flying is interesting when the group gets bigger. seems like Vijay-another RCer might join going forward.
>Sunday was really fun though we had just 2 hours of flying.
>Biriani flyer-my newly made corroplane in one hour . corroplast obtained from signboard of some newly opened biriani shop!! and hence the name stuck.
>Jana is an awesome pilot. i could see it from the condition of his planes, no scratch on any models. Johnny getting way too better with his plane. actually its and eye catcher in the field.
>Moorthy sir, not seeing you or getting calls from you now. hope you are doing well and would like to see you soon in the field.

Hello guys! Yeah as Ashok said, i would soon like to join with you guys! Now I'm getting even more excited as to when HK would deliver my last parts of the quad. I hope that I'd be the only one with a quad in our group (I'm in right?). I'm getting really impatient to hold my very first tx! I guess I would cry with joy the moment I open the package. Anyway even if the rc isnt ready by your next flying session (Which I highly doubt), I think of coming to the ground just to see you guys fly! Hope it would be very much enjoyable :)

Title: Re: Where to fly in Chennai
Post by: v2 eagle on May 20, 2014, 10:03:33 PM
Nope Vijay,
Ive already built/flown/crashed a Tricopter!!! now going for another Tricopter with FPV. learnt a lot of things from previous one.
Everyone is always welcome in the group.

@Shyam, i took corroplast from signboards, but you can buy a 6x4feet sheet 5mm for just 400rs from parrys corner.
Im planning to buy some for my next plane, would be glad if we could combine and buy them as no one would need a full size 6x4 sheet in one shot.(ive already bought one full sheet 5mm around june last year and made around 4 planes out of which 2 were successful and used up the last piece for my biriani flyer.)
Seems arjun would also be interested.

Title: Re: Where to fly in Chennai
Post by: v2 eagle on May 24, 2014, 10:18:35 PM
I will be there directly from my office. if everyone agrees, we can try this ground for one time to see if this really suits.

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/12.8684089,80.1802677/12.8075908,80.1526002/@12.8636674,80.1860723,2911m/data= (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/12.8684089,80.1802677/12.8075908,80.1526002/@12.8636674,80.1860723,2911m/data=)!3m1!1e3!4m3!4m2!1m0!1m0
we can drive the car directly into the ground instead of parking in the road. also there wont be any public disturbance as people hardly come there and the ground is flat as cricket ground. with no grass and lot of open space. you could see the size from the map itself.!!!

you mean the orange one that you have? Sorry, i dont.

3 options:
1.Sholavaram=good place to fly and land, too windy too long from us.
2.That old lake that we went, windy but no disturbance , hope it dont rains. else our cars will get stuck.
3.else, there is a ground covered with grass on the way to lake, jana and me knew the ground. what says?
Cricket ground is no more an option.

Hi Guys

I want a suitable place to fly my Quads and Hex. I plan to fly almost everyday for the next 2 months. I live in Nungambakkam.
Will fly in mornings (Hopefully won't rain).
Close locations are preferable.

I know of a place opposite crocodile park, but it's quite far.
Any other places?

Mambakam is quite far (more than 45 kms from city)
Any place closer?

What about the lake bed, opposite croc park?

Any other places? After the recent rains how will the ground be?

you cant fly quad inside the city ??? obviously it should be out of city and croc park is far compared to mambakkam.

India has been ruined by these ignorant & corrupt babus who devise 'laws' to sell licenses & extort money.

No wonder China exports 1000 drones a day!

These jokers will
a) Neither buy nor let u export
b) Not let you fly
Yet they will say Make in India. What a bunch of fools!

@v2 eagle,
Long time no contact...

Wonderful stuff.
The boat, which looks like a ferry, and runs like a speedboat,
Reminded me of
'Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee'

Then i saw Jana's flight.
Really floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee!

Saw your lake and airfield.
Makes me suspect that you guys are in UK at places where Dominicm makes his fabulous videos...
Lovely.

Regards.

@Iyer sir, yes its been almost a year. Sold my radio, planes due to sudden change of plans , marriage and a back to school plan. Now all is set and awaiting some free time to build something that I've been planning for long time. Jana us a fantastic flyer with awesome skills, I witnessed the same firsthand. The boat is out of water for almost a year and still runs great. In all, a happy flying day after a long time.
@nitesh, we are ready to grab you to the field whenever you want.

within city limits, you cannot fly any UAV without permission from police... I guess permission is not necessary if you're flying in nonresidential areas of suburbs... there are lot of such places... If you don't hesitate to travel, you'll find many places fit for flying
Examples mambakkam, kelambakkam, kovalam, mudichur lake, puzhal lake, outer ring road phase 2 & many villages near theses areas are fit for flying

You can try near Arudpadai Veedu Institute of Technology, Paiyanur, Old Mahabalipuram Road.

Alternatively you can try in cricket ground near ECR kovalam. Also, there is lots of open space near Thiruvidanthai (ECR).

Prior to flying, get permission from Local police station as safety measure.

May I know what type of airplane you are testing? Is it SPAD, or ? Size? Electric or Glow?

Regards,
Samayaraj

Hi,
Would like to know where is a safe and happening place to learn this. I did start on trainer (but did not complete it, with hardly couple of solo landings) in 2006 in Gurgaon, and when moved to chennai, had a few friend who helped me at Sholavaram. Then had to shelve it due to commitments and other events in life. Would like to re-start again from Trainers.
