I am looking for a new 6Volts NiCad high quality battery pack ( using Sanyo/Panasonic batteries , and good quality soldering/leads/connector ), of around 1000mAH

Let me know if anyone could supply this to me. I might need more than one if this works out to be good.

I have always used NiCads for Rx so have a few doubts before i decide to use Lipos.

1. What is the reliability of these packs ? Since they have an additional element - the regulator, doesnt it add another point of failure ?
2. These packs would be of 2 batteries, now if one cell fails the entire pack would be rendered useless, doesnt this make it unsafe ?
3. What brand are these cells ?

The thing i need for my Rx battery is reliability. I need top class battery pack that is completely reliable, has a long life, and is safe.

I am looking for a battery pack, and not individual batteries. Theres a lot that goes between indiv. batteries and the packs that we use . High quality soldering, leads, connectors and shrink wrapping.
Little details add to reliability and reliability is something we need to ensure is never traded for.

I have made battery packs from loose cells and all of them works perfectly. The shrink wrap and all other stuff are available locally. I have not seen 6V packs but there may be few out there.

BTW, how are you planning charge the 6V battery pack. If you are thinking of using the normal 4.8V charger then your 6V pack will not charge fully. You may need to have a special charger for this.

Best option is to use a Lipo with regulator as pointed out by Sai.

Many of the 1.20size (and other scale sizes like 25%) etc fliers use dual receiver packs. 

Like izmail said making batterypacks is no big deal. My tips are for those flyers on a budget like me and not for the exotic type. All my planes are electric powered and to economise I make flight batterypacks from High discharge current capable Ni-mH loose cells purchased from cheapbatterypacks.com.Also connectors,Shrink wrap,Silver solder etc are available with them. I have been making flight batterypacks right from the begining in this hobby since 2001. Also cheapbatterypacks.com can supply any type of Ni-Cd/Ni-mH custom batterypacks as per your specifications at a very reasonable price and deliver the goods within a week or less after placing the order.

My brother recently switched to using 7.2v 2s lipos for his receiver on some planes, and built his own regulators using the following circuit.  It was very affordable, and all parts are readily available in local electronics stores !

I'd not recommend this circuit for many reasons.
1. 7806 need minimum 3V differential to work according to manufacturers specs. If you use is with LiPo maximum difference you have is 2.6 minimum is 0!!
2. 7806 is rated for 1A, this is easily exceeded in usual setups when servos move together.

I'd replace with a low drop out regulator with higher current rating like LM1084. Also adequate heat sinking should be provided with airflow. Most of these regulators has a thermal shutdown feature. ie if it gets too hot from too much current draw and/or inadequate heat dissipation, the regulator will save itself by shutting down. Your rx will lose power and you'll totally lose control.

Rotorzone is correct. The best way to power a Rx with Li-Pos in glow planes or when using high voltage battery packs in Electic Planes is uing an UBEC. My opinion only

Rotor has said it all. An LDO regulator is the best for this application. LM1085 will work well.
