Last 5-7 days, there was a strike in the sorting dept. of the Mumbai post office, hence all incoming/outgoing shipments are delayed.
The strike is over, and clearing has started is what the postman told me

and if you want to know the status of your parcel you can call FOREIGN POST OFFICE office Near VT mumbai 022-22611791 Mr. Arjun Rane is there who looks after parcels and 022-22613965 is the other number .... CHEERZ

I am starting my first RC build and I am on a tight budget
I have browsed through almost all the LHS and have decided to buy the Radio and servos from RcHobbyAddict. But for the other necessities I am thinking of getting them from HobbyKing. Most of the items that I require are either out of stock or way overpriced in the Indian sites. Is this a good idea? And is anything that I should/should not do when I am shipping overseas?
The items I want to order are:

IMHO go for hobby king... you will not have any probs... jus declare 50% on the customs declaration..!

only do not buy a radio from there..!

yes declare upto 25% to 50% ask the hobbyking ppl to do it .... it will reach you no problems ..it will come to mumbai foreign post office VT, donot worry ....!!!! You can find their numbers on other similar posts>>>!!!! cheerz

while you check out to do the payments they ask you a option on how much u wanna dclare... just say 50 %.. do not order more than 1kg... u are safe

There are three steps during checkout . They did not ask how much I wanna declare upto the paypal page So I did not make the payment. Do they ask you that after the payment has been made?

if this is ur first order,then u can't declare the value..the option will be available from 2nd order only..

Then what should I do?

@lastRites: I once had ordered a parcel worth $70, declared 100%. It reached without any hassle. so $84 won't be a that big issue I guess. If there still is doubt split the parcel in two.. just make sure the weight of each doesn't exceed 1.5kg.

place a small order as ur first order n u have to wait some days..then the option will be enabled u can place ur big order from there on..

This time i like the service of HK..
My parcel is in india within a week of order placement..
I placed order on 19th

But I ran into another problem! I do not have a credit card.. Is there no other way to pay for the products(western union is not showing up on the payment page)?

@abhay.. the shipping time is your luck. there are some packages that are kept with swiss post.
it is like only some amt of packages are sent per week. Eg : if your order is in queue and shows shipped with HK but is 100th in queue with swiss post and Swiss post only send 25 per week then you will receive your package after 4th week or in 4th week. if you are lucky to be the 1st one you get it in the first week only.. to stall you till the 4th week they show that it has reached zurich etc etc..!  
( GOT THIS FROM THEIR CUSTOMER SUPPORT)

@ lastrites: u can use a debit card.. i use IDBI bank DC.. they will charge you 1% more but works well..!

I would like to add further that before payment via Debit Card(Mastercard), you should get your card registered for 3D-secure code.
I wasted a complete day reading the threads whn i was unable to pay  ..

Used a Visa debit card Split up my order in two: $77 (840 gm) and $68(750 gm). Hope it sails through customs

Today I got my refund as store credit for $195 for the six Orange Futaba Fasst compatible receivers which I had bought on 28 Mar 2011 which was lost since then. Inspite of my repeated Futile efforts to trace the Registered Parcel with India Post the where about is still not traceable. India Post had still not declared the parcel as lost till date and had rejected Hobby King Claim. However Hobby King was kind enough to offer the credit for the lost parcel.

That leaves me with only one last lost parcel out of the my total 23 Orders which was ordered. This one through Registered airmail again on June 2011 for $53 a Turnigy Starter, which was stuck with customs then for Technical Literature and Invoice is still not traceable after it has been cleared for destination at IPS web Online. I think the update of cleared for destination is false in most of the lost cases in Indian Customs.

While the enquiry  for the lost parcel is still on with India Post and I am still receiving the follow up correspondence from Indian Post at various stages wonder what now if it is traced at this stage.


I believe EMS is most reliable means of getting a parcel to your door step though some times you are charged customs, it is cleared faster.

How to use these offers?

This is the third time i got such message from hobbyking. Second time i got a boat(having no T&Cs like this one has  ), all i had to pay was shipping for 700 gms. But was unable to utilize that offer.

its like you fill your cart with 100$ worth items and also add this product...!this will show up free in your cart...! 

you need to do a min 100$ and the hk trick it happens such that with extra shipment there will be around 200-250grams which will remain  and it tempts to buy more and fill up
