U can order batteries from hobbyking only through FedEx n there will be no different tax rates.they will produce an invoice with the details of tax,handling charges n collect the money.

None , packs over 100wh cannot be shipped by air .

Anyone has had bad experiences with the customs disallowing the TX/RX? Should I go with the default 30% that Hobbyking sets as customs duty?

Any other tips for me? Have brought a couple of items from international shippers, but this part about the RX/TX is unique in this instance for me.

Never ever I got my ordered parcel from HK at my door steps... remember we live in India 

My parcel always landed with customs & they usually send a letter.. saying your parcel is with us please visit us & the same story... I go there talk to them convince them & get the parcel...  this is nothing but just pain....

In a simple line to say do not order such stuff from HK or simply get it from a friend who is coming from abroad...

just got my first order and one LED doesnt work. did RMA, now what ? i ship it ? will the shipping be refunded ?

i recently order quadcopter frame and some other parts from hk. and my order was about 100$ (including shipping)
no custom duty paid... and it takes 15 days... (via registered mail)
( one suggestion if your order is large than split it in two small orders..or try LHS rcmumbai.com quadkopters.com)

The customs fee collected by FedEx is minimum flat 30% + handling charges.
The customs fee may increase based on actual situation.Sometime the customs official estimates the worth of the products much higher than the stated value and collect more amount.

First Of All Welcome to the Forum,Now do you Want to order a Quadcopter Frame or its Parts or RTF Quadcopter which comes with Radio TX/Rx.
Well Now if you ordering Frames And All via Registered Post then its not a problem just Take care of the Amount and Size Of the order as Gunnu Said.
Now if its being Sent by Fedex they will charge you a Duty of 25 to 45 % saying from my own experience.
Now if ordering RTF Quad assembled one with Tx/Rx then be Careful as soon as Customs see that There is A Radio they will require WPC NOC and yes retention reason and parcel will be stuck in customs and yes that is very much trouble and you will have to request them to send the parcel back and get your money back thats really much of tensions and if its Coming By Fedex or UPS then no problem but then duties are a problem and as you will Knowing that Shipping charges are also too High.
One more thing These Days Shipping By DHL is a problem as They also Require WPC NoC this days dont know first they dont use to but now they are.

Atleast I can buy motors, props, esc & battery from hobbyking. through registered post?  flight controller & RC I can buy here. I had a look at vibranthobbies, quadcopters, rcmumbai, it's little bit costlier when comparing with hobbyking. Just tell me what are the items I can buy from hobbyking that requires no customs charges.

buy battery from LHS... coz for importing battery only Fedex priority shipping is available as far i know.. and they charge custom to much...(experts plz correct me)..
i don't think rcmumbai.com , quadkopters.com is costly.. these are cheapest LHS.. if you order from hk you have to wait for month and if it get caught by customs than more wait and custom duty too.. so prefer to buy things locally which are available here.. and look hk for the items which are not available here... rest is your choice...

First of all there is no guarantee on any product that it will be free of customs...but yes always keep your order less than 100$ and choose International registered shipping (mostly no custom duty) any be sure not to mark the item's value very low as they might detain the parcel and cause delay
 
And with Fedex always keep a sure margin of 30% of total cost for customs

hobbyking always mention actual value of items on packaging..

Where can we buy from?

Nowadays we have three options
1. Import and pay customs duty (if charged), as well as shipping charges which may be surprisingly high!
2. Buy from Indian local hobby shops
3. Buy from forum members after checking their reputation.

I get my stuff from
1. A member who imports from Hobbyking on a weekly basis, paying customs, shipping etc (50%)
2. LHS occasionally. (25%)
3. Members selling a few items. On a personal basis (as opposed to a commercial basis) (25%)

Never needed to import directly from HK!

The approach of many seems to be 'how to escape customs duty'
Why this attitude?
We can compare prices and opt for local alternatives, with far less headaches.
Alternatively, import directly, and just pay customs duty.

Not all LHSs may survive for long.
But i am happy that they are here, and i am happy to support them.

One Thing More is there If Importing A Radio Tx/Rx then Only UPS OR FedEx ( that too in rare Cases) can clear that or else its really hard.
