I will delete this thread after 24 hours. The reason is that I wanted someone to summarize the key points in the first post in the thread, and not have another long thread about HK.  I will update the first post as needed (like the "Mega list of shops" thread).

In short, what we want is a summary/FAQ :)  It is creating the summary that we need help with... creating a new thread is the easy part !

Thank you for your understanding. I guess we can also keep this thread as a starting point for the summarization efforts.  Here is some stuff I would like to see.

Q1.  Why not buy from local stores instead ? 

A1.  Hint : Customer service, fast, they need your support etc.  But when items are out of stock/unavailable or price difference is significant, then look outside.

Q2.  Are HobbyKing products reliable, how is their quality ?

Q3.  What about after sales support  and warranty ?

Q4.  What are the payment methods ?

Q5.  What shipping options are available, and what is the best choice for shipment to India (considering customs and postal service issues).

Q6.  What is the processing and shipping duration ?  How to check the current status of the shipment ?

Q7.  What if the shipment is held in customs for too long ? How long is too long to wait before taking action ? What action to take in dealing with customs ?

Q8.  What is the customs duty levied ?  What about invoice value declared ?

Please feel free to add more, and also post concise responses to the above (preferably numbered, so that we can refer to them later on).

surely would love to buy from LHS but they charge 15% to 20% more on almost all product and on TX/RX almost 40% to 50% more i think if they charged just 5% on the retail price more people will buy from LHS dont you think so Anwar and i think LHS are monopolizing this market unnecessarily making big issue with customs   

I guess you have not read the relevant threads :)  There is an immediate customs duty factor, and then there is also VAT, which bumps up prices significantly.  Shipping is another factor.  I think the RCDhamaka folks posted in detail earlier, on the issues that LHSes face as compared to external sellers.

maybe i haven't read those threads but thing is everyone have there own opinion see customs don't charge you duties if its for personal use but it as to be under certain amount mostly it has to be under 10,000Rupees but if they feel it is for commerce then they charge duties cess and taxes but if one can prove it is for personal use and not for commerce there are minimum duties and taxes and some times customs don't put any duties on very small amount


i am not saying that people shouldn't buy from LHS actually i personally would love to buy from LHS one of them is in my home town pune indianhobbies.com and surprisingly there TX/RX price is little less then other LHS i am thinking of buying Spektrum DX6i 6-Channel Radio 2.4GHz from them very soon  :thumbsup:

Right, but we are discussing why LHS prices tend to be higher.  LHSes do not import under the pretext of "personal" use, so like you said, they do end up paying customs.  In short, charging just 5% more is not an option for them in many/most cases (at least, that is what I understood).

there is better way all LHS should unite  ;D and get radios and other stuff in bulk QTY that way end users we can buy stuff for less price  :giggle:  :giggle:  (:|~  ;D  :thumbsup:

Are their Turnigy LiFePO4 batteries good?

Its a nice initiative, but its better that a thread be specific to an issue, rather than merging all topics in once as it might get confusing.

Judging by people's repeated questions, it looks like having one thread on the whole array of related matters would really help !  Like the "Mega list of shops", one stop answer !!

I did is,on the date 19 oct 2010, I ordered Motor, Servos, Propeller, ESC, Charger, batteries in one batch through Registered air mail[500 to 750gms] (87.16$ including shipping charges), and HK 2.4Ghz Rx/Tx set in another batch through the same service[750 to 999 gms](43.11$ including shipping charges) at hobbyking and declered 100% of the cost in both orders...
The status looks "Processing"
Do you have any idea about how much would I have to pay at customs exactly...
As per the other posts,It is 14.75% approx. Can it be more in such cases?

You should have read the forum  regarding what to import and what NOT. Radio transmitter are 'Restricted' item under Indian customs rules. You need an import license for the same.

There are people though who have succeeded in getting thru, using various means. Contact Anam_funny who is offering imported Tx.

This is what happens when u don't go through the forum in detail. Many people have had problems with the import of radios. It is always advised to buy radio from Local hobby shops. You could have bought the radio from anam bhaiya who has a deal of HK radio at a very reasonable price. This would have saved u from custom hassles. Now just hope that the TX reaches u.

Just wait some........... You have a 50-50 chance that it will get through.
Even if it gets held up at customs, a humble letter stating hat it is for personal hobby use and a little something will see it through - worked for me. And it is a gr8 radio for its price especially if u put a lipo in it.

Sumeet, getting a radio cleared off customs is damn painful, there have been cases where people are not allowed to carry radios even in their baggages at airports. Customs are very particular. But there are chances it may get cleared if it arrives at Mumbai customs...so wait for few weeks.

Also you don't have to declare 100% cost in the invoice, more the price declared - more hassles for you...our officials have a tendency to create unnecessary stoppages for costly items and other than the duty, they will ask for bribes telling you all the stories in the world, if you don't accept to give them money, they will charge you with the duties which are out of this world...

For now keep your fingers crossed and wait...

Anam - Dude, if need be you can help sumeet, you have a good experience dealing with the Customs for the radios...

So, if custom create problems then what am I supposed to do...?

If they charge you with just a Customs Duty, you'll have to pay it when the postman comes to your place to deliver the package or they may call you to the head post office for the same.

If they impound our package, then you'll get a letter from the customs department, in that case you may have to visit them with an application letter from your side stating the purpose of the shipment, you can mention it to them that its for one of the college projects or a RC competition taking place at IIT Powai in 2011. You'll have to pay some money to the officials and they will release your package.

If nothing goes through then as per the law the shipment is sent back to the sender i.e. Hobby King, in that case HK will give you some shopping coupon for an equivalent amount which you can use for future shopping with HK....

Well, I am already participating in IIT powai sp4mm3r. Do you know anybody partcipating there around you...?

I ordered my JR DSX7 DSM2 through DHL and it was cleared by Mumbai customs without any issues (related to the radio import) .... so there is a definite chance it getting through

Many get radios successfully, but only we see problematic reports here, hence the negativeness, Since HK radios dont look expensive, high chances u may get it. Wait and watch.

I got mine in 20 days....so 20 days it is....

Hi Vinay! Heard about your Non EMS Parcel, you got that easily without paying Customs.
Can you Share your experience of Registered Air Mail with me....

Its nothing rocket science, you just buy in small chunks rather than making a huge order that attracts customs. THats all. No secret there.  ;) Of course u need to order a couple of time and slowly increase parcel size once you know how the customs in your city behaves.

The status of my both orders from HK is:

"The item (RB**********HK) is being processed for departure from Hong Kong as of 27-Oct-2010."

With regular (non EMS) Air Post Parcels, it is often a matter of luck. Small packets will, usually, come through without a problem. BUT if it is detained for any reason, the delay can be painful. Also there is no means of tracking so a personal follow up becomes the only answer.

In short it is a hit or miss affair.

Sushil is right that non EMS Air Parcel/Mail would get customs attention at random and may or may not attract customs. If they dont open, the parcel would get to you faster, so win win for you.

Customs hardly spare EMS parcel considering that choosing EMS by the sender should have some thing do with the 'Value' of the item. They are ruthless there.

After so many of packages between Vinay and me and Registered Air Mail/Parcels have always worked for us. EMS may save you from hassle of visiting Customs most of the  times, but you end up paying Customs all the time. May be good for larger packages, not for smaller ones.

Sumeet, I'll go with Ujjawaana and Vinay on this, I have so far not had any problems with Customs for any parcels from Hobby King or from other eBay vendors based out of Hong Kong.

There are few pointers you should keep in mind for future purchase:

- Buy things in small portions / parts, it will help you keep everything in control.
- Whatever the item is, don't declare 100% value on the invoice.
- Be patient before you jump into Customs and take steps, It takes around 15 - 20 days depending on your location for the shipment to reach you after its dispatched from Hong Kong to India. At times people have received things after 30 - 45 days.
- This period from Nov 1 to Nov 15 is crucial as the gov. officials will be enjoying their Diwali vacations, so Dont expect anything to be shipped to you during this time.

I order a lipo,battery balancer & AXN Floater jet from Hobbyking. it is still in bk. Have asked the hk people to attach a invoice sheet outside the parcel

1. since the packet size is large will it get detained by customs (thats why i have asked hk to attach the invoice sheet outside the parcel or is it a bad idea, should i ask them to remove it)?

2. It has a Lipo battery & a battery balancer will the lipo be a problem?

3. 92 $ package value + 40$ shipment(3500-2999 gms pack)(total - 131$). . Wll i have any customs duty implied it?

since i have time to cancel it, i will use the suggestions given to carry on.

A large package would definitely (99.99%) attract customs. The other 0.01% times people are lucky.

HK by default will provide the customs invoice attached to the package. Its definitely good to have this.
Otherwise you have to furnish the invoice and the mode of payment to customs dept only after which they will release the package.
I guess you do not want to do the running around.

I have got a Cessna from HK without any issues (paid the customs duty thou; at the local post office).

Lipo charge will be in 'storage'. Also not connect to any device. So it should not be of any issue.

Guys, I got in touch with some import agents from mumbai, though still just at initial stage, they can facilitate importing huge parts and also the jumbo sized airplanes from hong-kong, if I think they are good enough, I'll pass-on the information.

You can do this too, here is how:

- Find the contact numbers of "IMPORT AGENTS" from internet, yellow-pages etc., or get in touch with a local travel agency they will refer you some...., how it works is that they use their import license to have the parts / kit delivered to you and they pay the duties involved.
- Make sure you negotiate well with them.
- Make sure the agent is experienced, check their portfolio etc.
- Make sure the agent is insured.
- Preferably get someone from Delhi, Mumbai or Chennai.

Based on my experience with such folks (or even well known courier/shipping companies), I would say be very cautious about this.  They will help move the papers etc while dealing with customs, but if some serious objection is raised, they will wash their hands off and pass the responsibility to the customer. Usually they use their familiarity with people and get things done in a "I scratch your back, you scratch mine" kind of way, but if anything goes wrong beyond that, you will be on your own !

I brought this kit from hk today using debit card of icici(no problem it changed to processing state). Its hk 450 v2 helicopter. thought of buying hk 450 pro  but read reviews that the pro is having problem of squash plate wobbling. so choose hk 450 v2.

My order changed to shipped last thursday(4/10). I have this icon next to my order having the shipped number RBxxxxxxxxxhk. when i click on the button it takes me to hongkong post where it comes as 'others' asking for a nine digit number. Is my parcel hasn't reached them? Its already been 4 working days(+2 holidays). Please advice

Just wait for another 3 days... While chatting with the online support with HK, was informed that HK post is experiencing heavy traffic because of Festive season. There are delays in shipping. It will be posted soon. Just wait for a few more days.

Depending on ur location delivery time is upto 30 to 45 days by HK post. For Delhi its 5 or 6 days at present.

My parcel shipped on last thursday also not updated. And, the another one which shows, on 29th-oct left Hong Kong for its destination, but not updated in IPS web tracking!

So to track my parcel in hk post, all i have to do is click that button which has the shipped number on it next to my order in hobbyking website rgt?

In just 13 Days. And One of that parcel was RX/TX which came without any custom duty or other charges.

No. Registered Air Mail comes via the FPO. EMS/Speedpost is more expensive but quicker and more secure. Also very easy to track.
The equivalent is Express Mail from USPS (Us).

All inbound articles from abroad pass through FPO. Irrespective of mode of mailing selected.The FPO sorts them out and if they discern that the packet needs PAD's scrutiny it is passed on to PAD. PAD is the extension of customs dept at the FPO and takes care of all inbound articles through post.

Only exception being courier, where the clearnace happens at the airport/seaport itself through the customs.

Not true for EMS/Speedpost. I have interacted with them on a few occasions recently. They have their own customs cell and parcels go through quickly unless detained for valuation, etc.

FPO is entirely different and registered as well as normal post go through them.

Its a maze if things get held up there.

When you click on the link it will take you to hongkong post where it will show as 'others' asking for 9 digit number(it means they haven't received your parcel yet but left hobbyking shop). Wait for few more days & you will see 'processing to send' after that 'left for destination'.

After 3-5 days, It will be updated and finally you will find the statement at hkpost:
"Your parcel *********HK left hong kong on dd/mm/yyyy."

From now on, you couldn't track your parcel accurately because For Registered Air Mail, the parcel goes through FPO(Foreign post office) and on HKpost it only gives option for "India-SpeedPost" in drop down list. But Don't worry at all, If the parcel pass through the customs, You will receive in no more than 1 week depending on your location. In my case, I stay at Indore, 860KM from mumbai and 650KM from Delhi. And I received my parcel on 7th day from the parcel left hong-kong.

This time i really mean it. I have 4 of my parcel shipped out which i am able to track 3
They are slow but yes i am able to track my parcel using it. patience is the key :thumbsup:. So wait for sometime they are updating the parcel location but little late >:(.

One question my item detail show 'Send item to domestic location (Inb)'. Does it mean my item has cleared customs?

This does not mean they have cleared customs.
My parcel was in customs for almost a month after I got this status while tracking and in case of my another parcel I received it after 3 days of this status without any custom duty.

This is the weight as per hobbyking :
4ch radio + packing : 989g
Trunigy battery (no packing) : 95g
18A ESC (no packing) : 18g
USB CABLE (no packing) : 60g
Neck strap (no packing) : 69g

Total = 1231g

I recieved the exact came items with the same packing used for the radio from kerala two days back and the shipping weight including a LOT of thick cellotape + extra thermocol + one CD came upto only 950 grams.

Why this difference???? I recieved all this in the radio packing box. So if HK spent some time packing them like this we would save 281 grams = 281 * Rs.1/gram= Rs 281.!! ( = 2 * 9g servos free)

Am i missing something?

I got my HK parcel after 36 days. I didn't have to visit any FPO for getting the delivery

I really had a wonderful morning ;D ;D. I got four of my parcels delivered today(no custom charges 8-)), Guess what one of them is a turnigy 9x tx  ;)& the other one was hk450 gt heli ;). Can't wait to go home & unpack it. will post some pic's.

For people in trivandrum, your parcels will reach within 20 days. 4 to 5 days after it shows 'send item to domestic location' in IPS tracking website.

Hmmmm! This is confusing to say the least  :headscratch:. You are based at Delhi belong to UP but are worried about the FPO at Trivandarum? Something not quite right?  8-)

Sneha, if you are in Delhi the route is different for the shipments. Generally the shipments are received at Kolkatta and from there they are dispatched to different zones in India.

Hi guys, a happy news for me.. my HK450 parcel status was pending customs inspection since 11th..Today morning it has been received in my previous branch n they charged some customs amount..Will update the customs amount by night..

Received my Hk450Mt barebone kit parcel with lipo,motor&ESC after 15days of shipment..Our customs guys opened the parcel and charged  :Rs: 368.Parcel worth is 180$,don't know on wat basis tat charge amt is..I think size of the parcel attracted them to open.

hi guys i got my hobby king parcel last Monday at 5:30 pm just as i was about to leave for mumbai  :banghead: but guess what left for mumbai an half/hour late  :D just checked the items everything was there also i got the software CD for 6 ch radio which i checked today it doesn't work so started the search and yes i didn't have to pay any customs duty  {:)}

just happy to get radio will check the functionality and update it later

no it was International (Registered) Air Mail 101-200g    - $5.99

Maybe it made it soon cos you may have ordered fast moving items, less volume and because it weighed less.

weight was less , and normally i never order heavy product or product with large volume.

What connector does the truinigy 2200mah 20C lipo come with? On hk a review said the 2200mah , 25,30 c etc come with xt60 while 20c comes with EC3 commector. On another site it said the 20c comes with XT60.

So which one does it come with?

My 2 orders showed the status as "Left Hong Kong for destination" in the morning but now when i check it says "processing for departure".  Anybody faced the same issue before??

On HK all Turnigy batteries come with XT60 Connector....
Except Transmitter or receiver batteries...

And I don't know about the other places that which connector they are supplying...

Alright, so I've ordered some stuff including a Turnigy 9x 2.4GHz and (no surprise) its got stuck in Delhi Customs. I got a letter from them today. I think the oversize box that HK packs the radio in got their attention. Anyway, what is the recommended plan of action? Will a letter from my Department in college (I'm in BITS-Pilani) help? What should the content of the letter be ("This is for research project work meant educational purposes, and has no commercial resale value" etc etc)?

The Customs letter asks for several supporting documents
-original bank attested documents/GATT documents
-import license/OGL documents
-importer's code
-certificate from competent authority
-other relevant documents
What do these mean?

2.4GHz is the ISM band which is actually license-free. I've read that 2.4GHz is a delicensed band

Till now i ordered 8 parcel. All my parcel which is through registered airmail land in kolkata & then sent to trivandrum. But when i ordered my AXN floater which is through air parcel (same case as yours) it landed in mumbai(only this parcel all other landed in kolkata) & then sent to trivandrum. So what i am guessing is, larger parcels are sent to mumbai.


when did they started selling AXN floater for 30$ ;D. what i suggest is for larger parcels like AXN floater(atleast 3 & 1/2 feet long) declare the correct value cos the possibility of attracting customs for such big parcels is very high & you would be informed to produce proper documents(you will get caught red handed)

there was no customs charge on it. not on any of my parcels till now though i have recieved 4 parcels above 70 $.

Oh I see Now...! I was trying to order some parts and while checking out, I select the toy parts in the drop down list and it results to payment failed.  ??? It happened to me 4 times for the same order...
But in 5th try I select hobby parts in that list, the payment was approved after entering details of credit card etc.......

The moral of the story is: Don't declare your parcel under "Toy parts". Declare it as hobby parts...

Jason from HOBBYKING has modified their website code. The CUSTOMS INVOICE now does NOT read "PLASTIC TOY PARTS", instead now it reads
"MADE IN CHINA"
"HOBBY PARTS"

Please check your Customs invoices in your orders.

We had requested Jason to change the narration to "Hobby parts" as there were issues importing Plastic Toy parts from China. :)

The customs invoice, as displayed against my order placed a few days ago, said "Made in China/Plastic toy Parts" then but has now changed to "Hobby Parts". Let's see when it arrives.

Guys I ordered two parcels before 10th dec. Both of them are lighter than 200 gms in weight. and containing motor, battery, ESC etc. the status on HK post says that both left hong kong on 15 dec 2010.
But on

Dont worry sumeet. If the parcels have left from HK on 15 Dec, they should reach you by Jan 15, 2011. Though the packages are small, they will still undergo the customs appraisals. All parcels do. Be patient. Wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR  :P (in true spirits)

Dont worry my parcel also left by 15th(rcxxxhk). No sign in tracking website. Its Cristmas season so the quantity of parcel coming in is very high. It will take a while to reach us. But the parcel which left on 11th reached me today at trivandrum. Still waiting for the parcel which left on 15th.

Guys, just be patient, you'll receive your parcels before Jan 15, 2011. All the parcels are received at Kolkatta in India and from there these are dispatched to various locations in India, once in Kolkatta, it takes 1 week to 10 days for the Parcel to reach you.

generally, parcels marked as Hobby Parts are cleared by customs. I have successfully received 5 parcels from HK, 2 from an ebay seller in hong kong and 1 more from dealsextreme.com again shipped from hong kong. These parcels included 500 size heli kit, servos, ESC, motor, upgrade parts for Heli, tools etc.

The only key is to be very patient... ;)

Folks, my experience says, its better to use Air Mail (registered) compared to EMS. EMS is costly and makes you fall into customs mess....!!! Unless your item is a damn costly thing, avoid EMS.

all of my parcels arrived at my doorstep in just 13 to 20 Days. One of them was HK 2.4Ghz Radio. And I received without any custom duty. And 13-20 days are not so long for anyone which have older experience with HobbyKing. Even It saves you from the struggle that you could have to do with customs. So, In my opinion, for 100 to 1000gms weight. Go for Air mail registered. For little heavier, Try Air parcel.

This must be a first even for HobbyKing...  they carry the fake and genuine versions of the same product, and they are identified in BOLD letters :o :headscratch: :banghead:

is there any RTF in the parcel ? ya i think it is. You have to go there, they will never send you a notice (happened same with me recently).

Wait n watch as suggested by Sandeep. Dont panic and dont call them. 28 Dec is not that long ago. If you happen to get a call letter, then you may reply with invoice copy and the reason for import. You can even fax these docs. I would suggest not to visit them personally and send the docs through fax/mail. If that does not help, then you may have to send someone on your behalf. But this may take upto 45 days. So be patient.

It says clearly that it has been detained as it is a "prohibited article". Unfortunately it has landed in Delhi, something I cannot understand. It will be difficult to follow up from here. Do you have a good friend in Delhi? A personal visit will help.

yeah very right, and delhi FPO is  >:D....my personal exp. No hram in waiting but you will not get any notice :banghead:. Again if its detained under prohibited items..... :headscratch: beleive me ..its going to be tough. But Many helpful people are around, so all will be well.

Delhi FPO is infront of Times office at ITO new delhi. You will be lucky if you call there and they pick the call. 011-23233304, 011-23231281

I dont know i should be happy or sad as I received the customs notice today. The letter is dated 28 dec 2010 and states that i have to reply within 15 days or they will dispose the parcel  :banghead:

But unfortunately i am in Mumbai and cant go to Delhi. What documents do i have to supply them with? Should i reply them from Mumbai itself? Oh i am so confised what to do ? i see my Axn going down the drain :banghead:

Also if someone in delhi can help me out with it i would be grateful to him.

As I had mentioned, if the parcel is detained, the letter is bound to be dispatched (on papers, even if does not reach you  :P). I am sure the letter would indicate the documents required and asked for. Usually they ask for original invoice along with a justification letter for the reason of import.
Also, check if it says that you can fax/mail those documents to them. Being physically present for appraisal is usually an option given.

I personally feel that there may not be a need to go to Delhi. Your parcel would not have been appraised but since it contains prohibited items (as they call it), you are being asked for the justification post which they shall do the appraisal accordingly. They should (hopefully) release the parcel once they get a response after assessing the duty on it.

Its not necessary that the notice reaches you. My parcel had been detained and after a month of no movement in the tracking, I called and enquired and it had come to customs. The custom people claim that they had sent a letter, but they dont have any proof that they had sent!
I think they just update in their system that the notice had been sent, and may be workers who are in the lower hierarchy who are supposed to send may as well eat up the postal money :D or I dont know y they dont send. It had happened with my friend too.
 

True.. I agree. The point is not about letter reaching you... but as per the protocol, the letter has to be dispatched and it does (atleast on records). It reaches you or not, is not their headache  :banghead:. Often it reaches so late that there is no use of it.  :(

+1 foamybuilder! It happened with me and my friend as well.

In such cases, we should bounce back and assert that legally going by Customs Exim policy (HS Codes), Model planes (without Radio) is not a prohibited item.

1. It does not contains Radio Tx(even though it would need one later)
2. It is not at all 'Toy' meant for children and any harmful chemicals even used to paint/manufacture is absolutely safe for careful adult use.

Many flyers in Bangalore have personally justified the customs in a cordial manner and got through by paying only the 'legal' charges.

Ankur, you may better send the invoice and a small writeup specifically outlining that it is for peaceful adult use and not a toy and would be used for educational project. You may also try to get a phone appointment from the Superintendent at the PAD (customs) after they receive the docs and explain the case. Sometimes  mundane invoice sent by HK on such big parcel like AXN (biggest for me till date) might lead customs to investigate more. Stress that it is a 'FOAM' plane to reduce their paranoia.

But as Saurabh has explained, a 'Personal' visit may resolve the problem mush faster.

No ved i dont think you can. Does the SBI card have a valid through date?. Mine has only valid from. You can use it only when you have valid through which appears in other debit cards. I use my icici debit card which has valid through date.

I dont think this should be a problem, The package would not be too big and the plane itself looks too skinny.

Apart from low price and Fiber Fuse, the glider does not impresses me. The covering is shabby and very bland color scheme. For this price, HK should have offered a 'Hot winger' (Ailerons on wing) instead of plain vanilla Glider. I am waiting for more worthwhile products in this range.

Will I have any problems if I order a 2s 5000mah lipo and an accucel-6?I was worried with  the shipping restrictions on lipos and all.

No, I got 4 X 6s 3 ah lipos in 2 installments, no issues, chargers? I got an 200 watss turngy and 300 watts i charger w/o issues or customs!

So when I do order it,I don't need it to be shipped by Swiss Post or something like that right?(I remember having read something like that for batts above 5000mah)

it automatically comes thru swiss post if the battery capacity total is above some mah. makes no diff as far as customs is concerned, the only diff is that through swiss post it comes a lil faster as its not as busy as hk post.

No, dont use the word bad at all. Its heavenly having received 37 parcels from Hobbycity within a year and ranging from minimum 500 grams to 3 KG!  ;D

Honestly,how bad are their nanotech lipos?Some guys love them as much as their expensive batteries some hate them.And also,any ideas how their hard-case packs are?

No idea about the hard case, but nano techs are good, not that great as hyped by HK. I have 2 90 C used ones, but they have been only on 2 flights, so hard to say till i cross 10 uses and break them in. as of now, on the first use, they had slightly more punch than the 20 c batts, but they perform well only after some uses.

I have 3 new nano techs 4s 35 70 C for my 450 pro, havent run them.waiting for pinions.

If u see that most people report only when Angry, so u may read more -ve feed back some time. if people are happy and lazy like me, u may never get to read +ve feedbacks at all!

Well that puts them into perspective.

I think I'll go with the slightly more expensive hard case packs for my car(s) if I don't get a guarantee that the HK ones are good.Hope my dad allows them.

what ever you pay, most probably it wont make it through custom. Read first page of this thread.

It all depends on luck. I see lots of people using HK radios in bangalore. But chances are high that it may get struck with customs.

You can add it to cart, and ATTEMPT to check out to see how much shipping will come to.  Customs is 0% to 25%, assuming they don't go ballistic on you (chances for which are 50 - 50). 

But whatever you do, go for the Mode 2 version, this one is Mode 1.

I would like to share some information about importing materials from hobbycity(Hextronik Pvt Ltd).

In Jan 2009 I bought some materials. Although I placed my order and paid in late Jan but i received my parcel in mid Feb, 2009. I received the parcel within 13 days. It was late due to Chinese new year. But the packaging was very good. Materials like li-po and brushless motor,esc, li-po charger gave robust and superb performance. These products are very impressive.

I brought one parcel containing .25 Engines, accessories, receiver and so on....
It took 15 days to deliver at my address.
Customs took Rs1300/- duty charge for my parcel bcoz it was big (4.7kg)....


In 2010 I ordered another parcel for my friends for robotics and aeromodelling events in IIT Guwahati................
It took 19 days by registered airparcel but the materials were in good condition.


I am so much impressed by the hobbycity products. My friends and other participants(from different colleges) are interested in these products. We used hobbycity products for different projects and events.

We have promoted these products in some engineering colleges in Kolkata and Pune. Hobbycity products are used by so many hobby enthusiast as well as crazy people for aeromodelling and robotics.

In addition i can say....

*   Out of 21 li-pos  i lost 2-3 li-pos so early after purchasing, but others have great performance.

** After all, it depends upon your power setup and adjustment for your RC model. It requires some technical data to configure electronics. If you know how to maintain and handle these things, you will observe the performance of these products.
      If we follow the instruction given by the manufacturer i'm sure that we will get value for the money and better response by using these products.

From what I know, most of the people who really order a lot of things, dont even want to teach others how to import stuff, just coz they worry a lot that its gonna disturb thier own imports. Its good we need to show others on how to import,

but I agree with not showing the invoice things  ;) But again the customs know that most of the stuff is underdeclared.

but somehow i disagree that people don't want to teach others on how to import. there are many threads here where me and other have clearly mentioned on HOW TO And WHAT TO DO while buy good. There is no rocket science in buying good from HK or some other HS. yes hk have started something new which i think should be communicated vie PM or email only on request and not in open forum. but one thing i would suggest to all HK buyers to PAY & FORGET for at least 21 Days in registered mail. and try not to call customs for status of parcel.
Maximum time parcel from HK left HK Airport on 3-4 days. that is India where it can take time. Not to blame the customs but the System in which we are living, we have to be the part of this system.
And Yes, Customs are well aware of the product value, not exact but near approx. we cannot fool them. i was once charged for 5 servos, set of 5 wheels, one battery and one motor combo, i paid 350 as customs charges, which i pay without any hesitation.

that is there personal matter or intention and we cannot interfere in their personal matter. even i rarely mention about my purchase from HK unless it is exclusive.....,but i have helped many new comers who call me for hk buying.

Price, range and most importantly availability would be the most crucial aspect of these new sprang Hobby Shop. Great that people would have more options, as far as they continue to get good deal like more established and older LHS like RCD, Rotor, IndiaHobbies etc have been maintaining.

And I think both Vinay and Sandeep sir are correct in their respect. there are people who do a hush shush. Its their personal choice and we cant blame them. Then there are the new comers who might need help. some of us do that. Posting some details like Sandeep has highlighted is never a good idea, even though I suspect that the authorities and catch your neck for posting these and the fact that far, far more non-RC packages arrive in FPO that what an average RC enthusiast contributes. FPO would not even care following up with petty change like us!!
But nevertheless, precaution is the best cure.

These kind of problem is more caused by Micro-LHS importing items for sale under pretext of 'Personal' use and then charge 200% premium on name of customs.

Most of my RC friends and and my self have been at worse charged 33% (what is among the Max charges) by customs, average being in the 22% on invoice.
It would be unwise to demonise the customs just to scare away people/new comers to test the water themselves. Especially form a person like you who has opened a similar Micro-shop, this is rather Conflict of interest. Learn how other respected LHS have conducted themselves.

And yes, learn to use forum tool like 'Reply' 'Quote' first so that you are not misunderstood later.

I would rather suggest all HK buyers not disclose about customs part communication for the products in this forum. yes they can show their product and specification, or best is the link of that product from where that product is purchased.
I wish the original pic. from HK are not copy protected and we cannot use them, like some people use those pic in this or their LHS websites.

Thanks to all of you for the suggestion and comments.

 Actually people generally face such a big problem with their parcels. Some people became hopeless to track and collect their parcels. My friends and even me also faced problems to collect parcels.

Even it happened that the unregistered parcels are lost and did not come back to the receiver. After a long query they customers have not reply from postal service. So it has gone!

I would like to tell my dear friends..
Please use either (registered)airmail/parcel or EMS for the transportation.

So my tendency is to provide information as much as possible to my friends and RC enthusiasts so that they would come to know what happens exactly with the parcels when it is sent from warehouse.

But, you are all welcome and i don't mind if you would comment on my postings. It could change the view as well as help us to co operate each other. After all it's a forum to co-operate with each other to built something different.

Mr avishekghosh07, no matter how much you justify yourself, now you owning a shop of your, your post looks like more of deterrent to new buyer. For people like me and Sandeep, your advice and help doesn't worth a Penny.

Please DONT mislead the people here for your monitory gains. If you try to out smart the customs by declaring too low, you can sure get into trouble. You may occasionally loose unregistered (1 out of 50+  as with me), but claiming that ordering from HK or other Western Hobby shop is a risky business every one should avoid, and buy from you at such a exorbitant prices, then you are living in a Fairy land. I would beg to see how other established LHS have conducted by not bad mouthing HK and import and even offered prices attractive to lure local enthusiasts. Not by putting fear in minds and charging so unfair.

In another thread talking about  ridiculous prices by your site, I myself said the seller is free to ask whatever he thinks. Reading your post like these, I would take back that point of mine.

You are right. It is strictly prohibited to copy the images and contents from a website. It is unethical also.

But if the provider or seller is agree with you then you can show the images bcoz if somebody promote same the product in different name and manufacturer it is not legal. Once people will see the product and ask for the manufacturer we should reveal the truth.

i have ordered 3 times from hobbyking no problem et all. yesterday i read Ujjwal sir's post on HK Forum about mishandeling at swiss post and his battery problem . i was worried so much  :( but today my parcel came and everything is safe in bubble wrap  :thumbsup: .sometimes problems may happen but we can not generalize those problems.

and for your shop :it is very good that you don't buy from retailers and directly from company ...this way prices will really go down.

SBI guys have many variety of debit cards..Maestro debit card is the basic n u can't use it for online purchase.

I m using Saraswat Debit card.

Check if it has the visa or mastercard logo on it.

Its impossible to buy online from western online shop with a Debit card as Debit cards need the payment gateway of the issuing bank instead of universal payment gateway for Visa/Master/Amex etc

The best option for you is using Western Union

Even, Paypal does not accept debit cards.
Another solution could be, you can transfer fund from banks like SBI, HDFC, ICICI through TT(Telegraphic transfer). Ask the seller for the SWIFT account number.You need to transfer fund to the seller's bank account number. Forex branches of these banks could help you for the payment.

Or talk to the persons who use to exchange currency in your city. They could help you bcoz they have credit card. They are in the currency transaction related field. They will charge you less amount.

In the beginning of my projects i also followed these proceedings to transfer fund and i got help from those people and from banks also.

You can talk to them, i think they could help you.

Ok,
If the status is reserved then pls remind HK to send your parcel. When it will be shipped the status will show "shipped" with the tracking number. They will send an e-mail to you with tracking number.
Once you get the tracking number pls visit this site www.track-trace.com/track then select the option and give tracking number.

Hobby King would say 'Shipped' and give you a tracking no for Honk Kong post in max 2 days (if everything is in stock). But Honk Konh Post might not show 'Any Thing' for another 3-4 days. Better question is how much time it would take to leave Hong Kong? - 5-10 days from ordering. it might take another 2-3 weeks to finally reach at your door step.

Keep patience for at least another 3 weeks. If it reaches you in 2 weeks, consider yourself lucky.

Please read the previous posts. HK Post takes anywhere from 3-7 days to display your Tracking# and between 5-10 days to ship out of Hong Kong. There is this lunar year holidays till Feb 9th so expect heavy delays.

But they are saying that they have shipped the parcel.

Could you please check your mail? Hobbyking should send a mail regarding confirmation of shipping. You should receive two mails from (CHECKER_ROBOT@hobbyking.com) and (Order_Shipped@hobbyking.com).
Hobbyking generally confirms the customer about packing of parcel through the " checker robot" and then ship it.
If you got the tracking number please visit this site.

But what happens ved, Hobbyking might sent your parcel but due to holidays they could not update the details of your parcel. It happens during holidays.
So plese don't worry........Pls wait for some days.

Guys, now-a-days i am being charged "postage due" on my HK parcels which comes to around 220/- for small shipments (<500gm) and 420/- for larger ones (<750gm).
The break up is like Postage due : 220/-, Customs : 30/-, so total around 250/-

Anyone else notices this?? Earlier they used to exempted, but not anymore.

If I am not mistaken, postage is not charged if there is no duty payable.

I received two recently where there was no duty payable. Did not pay anything additional. AFIK the 30 or whatever is charged when duty is to be collected. There is no reason for the postal authorities to collect anything otherwise. After all, postage has been paid by the shipper for delivery to the addressee.

Your understanding is correct - Sushil. However, here the issue was the swapping of postal charges with custom duty.  :P

I started getting parcels to my Office address , which is a SEZ zone, thinking it other ways that the Customs officials may consider not putting and charges. So Naive!!.

But I still  get it at my office address and customs puts duties as randomly as for other people. What benefit I have getting at office is that my office reception receives my packages and its more secure than my apartment security receive it as there is no one at my apartment during day. There is another benefit. Being addressed to an Organization, the postal guys would think twice before flicking my package.

At the end, it might just not matter. YMMV

HK shipped a bulk load of their catalogues to a courier company in Chennai which is an India agent of a China courier company.
Then is was distributed via the database provided. This method is cost effective. ;D

what I do is copy the product from SNAP SALES e.g esc -priced at $2 which I want buy ,put it in the search Box & then view it there the actual prices show for ESC (e.g $15 ),after the product appears then I select the product(esc) & say buy during the process I also mention the discount code

Hi Guys

Need some help regarding some items (Lipo Battries, ESC, Props, Motors ) ordered by me on 5th Feb'11. Tracking shows that the parcel reached Delhi IMC on 20th and was released by Customs the same day. However I have still not received tha same. On checking with the Hobby king guys through the online chat I get the same reply - wait for some time before we start the investigation.
Can anybody helm me with a way forward

Is your postal address in Mumbai or Delhi?

Its Mumbai actually. However the parcel seems to have landed in Delhi

Call: 2261 1791. This is the FPO, Mumbai. It will take several tries to get through but they will give you an update. If it has not yet reached them, try again after a few days.

Swiss Post (for Lipos) had inward center in Delhi for the entire country. No serious customs check happens on the IMCs and all the packages are checked by customs at your regional FPO (Mumbai). Its already long and I would suggest you to hit Mumbai FPO with the Tracking#, Invoice, and a small writeup regarding content and its use.

How are you people! I have a problem abt a package which i've order from Hobby King. I've order the package on Feb 01 2011 where as now the status of my order is showing on IPS Web tracking as below.

However, As per the previous post of our frnds, i was expecting my parcel to be moved from customs, will it be moved? any idea?
My parcel(4500grm) contains.....RTF electric plain with 6ch TX and RX and Lipo batery....i know but i was temited to buy. and now i am sure that god is with me i will get it.:) but please advise me do i need to contact customs mumbai regarding my parcel? or do i need to wait for some more time. if i need to go mumbai i cant cozz its far from my place. so what to do.......

your item might be detained. just wait for some more days (there maybe a backlog) and if the status does not change on ips web tracking then u need to call mumbai fpo and inquire about it.

:( how can we know that as the status is showind as Send item to customs (Inb)  and on singapore post is showing as heald by customs not as detained..... help me out pls

Your parcel is way too heavy for you to feel happy..it will definitely get detained since you ordered a TX. You just have to wait for the customs to send you a notice. It will take some time as Mumbai customs is slow in processing. Also sometimes the IPs webtracking website is not updated.

Your Slurrpy  temptation and greed to save on shipping, ignoring all the advices by seniors here is deemed to put you in trouble. I won't say people have not got thru packages like these, but they were not the first timers or at least had some 'Acquaintance' with the customs folks.

Getting an ARF is still fine, getting Radio is gamble, but getting both together, and that thru Mumbai (you dont have much control over that) is like suicide.

All said and done, don't delay. Call the FPO (Not PAD/customs) and quote your Tracking no. If  the Post office folks tell that it is still waiting customs clearance or, for worse, impounded, head for the FPO immediately. You might have to furnish much of explanation (ARF + RADIO), and if lucky, would get your stuff through.

I Got my parcel today thru EMS. Indian Post took full 3 working days (1 vs HK Post) to complete the shipment, and still did not update the tracking site. Would like to remind the patriots that just like international Passport consortium, intl EMS /Post mandates country to put tracking in place. Wonder how long the biggest IT service exporter like India would trail in IT infrastructure. And Mind you, Indian Post does not cost you cheap (:Rs: 450 vs $5.45 for same package round trip)

Hello Krish, can you please tell me how much money you paid for this item as custom duty? And did you pay to the delivery person (postman) or you went to customs office in respected area?

Customs cleared my parcel within a day..I paid the duty to the local postman and he had given receipt(like a print out).

The parts I have ordered are ESCs, TX/RX, Receiver etc. I have asked the seller to mention these items as normal hobby parts.

Hello Krish, thanks for you kind reply, I have ordered nothing much in cost, but they are like:
- 4 Servos
- Set of RX/TX (FM 27.095MHz) Crystals
- 4CH Receiver
- 1600mAH LiPo
- 3C LiPo Charger
- Brushless Motor (1200Kv)
- Pair of ESC (for brushed and brushless)
- Propellers 9070 (5 pcs.) and other few misc!

All are from different store, some from HK, while others from various hobby stores.
I have asked all the sellers not to mention any of these items as for RC/Planes/FM/Radio etc, but just to mention them as normal hobby parts! :)
This will hopefully help to escape from customs, though it seems that all parts are allowed to import, their weight is hardly few grams.
The Receiver is 20gm and RX/TX is around 5gm. But all are ordered differently, i.e. not in combined shipping.

Atul. I have been following up on a couple of my shipments, at the FPO, Mumbai. I believe they have instructions for the customs to examine EVERY consignment, at least for some time. This has created a big backlog which will take some time to resolve.

This info should be of use also to others who are expecting items through the Mumbai FPO.

My last one was the HK450MT heli kit with electronics and battery..I mentioned 7to 10 days 'from the date of shipment',approximately 14to 15 days from 'the date of payment'.

I ordered on the 28th and my items were shipped on the 8th. Now the status shows as released from delhi customs..So I presume 10 more days..

[Admin Note] Moved the last few posts from the "Can I import receiver" thread to this HobbyKing one. 

"Processing" means that the order has been confirmed and is being collated, packed and will be sent to the shipper. It takes, on an average, 2-3 days for this so there is no need to worry.

in last 45 days I placed about 4 orders. First was on Feb 12th. and last day before yest. All are small orders, but no tracking number is given and havent received the Feb order yet...... :headscratch:

How to chat with online support of Hobby King? and any idea above what size of order they provide tracking ? because an order in december was of just 12$ and tracking was provided in it.

Did you use 'International Air Mail ($40 limit) 0 - 100gr' option to ship ? Unless you opt for 'Registered' mail, you wont get a tracking#. Well HK post is going too sluggish these days. My March 4th order has not left HK yet!!!

If you are a beginner AXN is the best since it is a pusher. Even when you crash you can glue the broken & the motor will be undamaged. But i lost a lipo during one crash and the AXN nose was split open. No worries, used hot glue(can also use CA like feviquick) & flied it again.

HC and HK Post Duo are sucking big time these days (is the Japan quake this time ???). Earlier HK used to brag with a banner on thier Forum listing average 'Ship-out' time for all its ware houses (Int HK, AU, US, DE etc). Now they are back to their old pathetic 'SLA' so much that they have stopped the banner all together.

Its taking average of 2 weeks+ since order for the package to leave HK post, a status which matters the most.

Sun is beating hard again. Grow some more patience.

Please have a look to both the pictures.

Firstly, the destination country for one of my orders (through HONG KONG POST) is showing as BRITISH INDIAN OCEAN TERRITORY, but it supposed to be for INDIA. So what is this? I live in India and my parcel is going to BRITISH INDIAN OCEAN TERRITORY, is it so, or it's a route to INDIA?
Gosh I am afraid!

Secondly, does anyone have an idea for this SWISS POST tracking info? It's sent from HobbyKing (HK), please check the picture.
It seems like the parcel left Singapore and then again came back to Singapore, weird! ???

Usually when I buy stuff from international stores, I never go by the tracking details alone as there are times when they show conflicting information. Especially when ordering from China and HongKong. Singapore has lesser issues. At least for me.

You would've received an order confirmation email when you placed the orders. If the address mentioned there is right you have no need to worry. Else you can use the contact option on the courier's web-page for assistance.

Btw British Indian Ocean Territory is nothing but the Chagos Islands. I don't know if that's enroute to India though.

Hmmm.. I haven't ordered from HobbyKing, but usually it takes around 20-25 days for most of my orders to reach me. The fastest I've ever received something was around two weeks. I've never lost a package till date. (touch wood!)

There is a separate thread regarding swiss post.My experience with swiss post was not bad.The thing is that they update the tracking details very late.I got my parcel throug swiss post as same as hongkong post.All u need is patience..Best of luck.

Not really.  If you are unlucky and customs objects, you are on your own. However, this seems to be rare with the big parcel companies (no marks for guessing why it is so!).... which is a good thing.

Non EMS tracking is good only till package leaves originating country(HK)... then there is a blackout time of 1-3 weeks. Keep patience.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Today I had to visit Customs after a long time when I realized that the Call memo which they sent last week actually refers to 3rd last package I ordered and not the already delivered one (due to which I was ignoring it)!!

I began ordering stuff from west 2 years back on my office address, thinking since it is SEZ, customs would create less hassle . On the contrary, the Superintendent cordially told that its the other way round. They were expecting .Import licence and HS code, since they were assuming its a institutional import and not a personal one! Since it was a small (500g) package, he let it go but advised me to use a residential address now on. So who ever is ordering stuff at their office address, take a note.

On the hind site, how many of you actually get the 'Custom invoice' you can generate form HC order page stuck on the Package ? Has anyone tried to tell HC to take a little pain and actually do that ? Tower Hobbies, Heli Direct and other genuine Hobby Shop in the West always tuck the invoice in a plastic envelop with the package and all the 4-5 Tower Orders have never created a problem for me.

I would urge people here to take a reference of any of your recent order and call HC support, stressing them to do that now on. If we do in mass, they might notice. Please take it as an action item for  your free time.

About the invoice; i always get one taped on my packages.

Well a few months ago i order some stuff from HK which weighed less then 400grams came via HK EMS for which i got a notice,at the same time i had also ordered another parcel from HK weighing 2kg via SG EMS.It came through reason it had the invoice in a plastic cover.But the HK parcel didn't have a invoice stuck.

The one 'Taped' is 'Customs Declaration' and not invoice. IT just states the total value and not 'Part wise breakup'

See HellFire's reply. The Customs declaration invoice which we generate should be put in the the package. it would hardly cost less than 1Cent to HC. This is legal thing which they have been avoiding (Ohhh... we already sell so cheap... do ask any favor.... SHIT!).

Today i've received my HK customs invoice from post man stating that to collect my parcel frm my local post office by paying Rs 394/- on my $45.48 order(as per HK customs invoice which was declaire 50% on my actual pay:)). today im going to my local post office to collect my parcel...........hurrayyy............ This i was expected.... i'm very happy. Intresting part is after releasing my parcel frm mumbai customs, i got the letter frm customs stating that i need to provide invoice along wth jestification of letter. :)

@naresh : ok, Chinese new year delays the stuff and also come via mumbai custom so i think my odds are with em to get in 1 to 1.5 months .. or may be before :) lets see how it goes.   I had done 100% custom declaration.. but i think i have done right.

Congratulations Naresh.... I am glad you got your parcel. As I had told you, it was just a matter of time... Did you send the requested documents to customs? Or they released it even before that? Anyway, now it doesn't matter as you have got the parcel.

Here is my protocol that I follow.

After you have placed an order on hobbyking, log into their live chat support immediately. Once you are in, just ask the representative to include an invoice inside the parcel. He will make some notes into your order and add an item like "hold order, give to staff". Once this is done, the warehouse will include the customs invoice inside the parcel. When your parcel will arrive in india, customs will get the invoice placed inside the parcel and most of the times will not bother holding it. If they feel, they will levy duties, but will not hold your parcels unnecessarily for documentation etc...

anandrenuka, You are right. To avoide customs prob. may be it is better to declare 100% on big parcels or we can average the % depends on the parcel, what i feel. in my case my actual order amt is $134.29 i've declaired 50% for 4kg parcel which has RTF, TX with usb cable, RX and Lipo batery :)..

I am impressed that Mr Hands choose to answer few uncomfortable questions. While I agree to others, I still dont take thier reasoning to show apathy towards wrong, broken or DOA items etc. It is not social work their are doing by offering cheaper price - its their only USP and they cannot trade that for other evils.

Hadn't it been the huge customs hassle in importing things from west by average people, things would have been much difficult for LHS, especially in country like India.  The hobby has become much more affordable (and more commonplace) that Yday's 16 years old, just a year in the hobby some times give old dogs in the field run for their money, who enjoyed a unconditional heroism for long.

But we have to take things with a pinch of salt. Things are rapidly improving even in India with LHS here answering well to this eminent danger. Prices have come down drastically in the recent past, but I still see few old players of the bygone era still assuming the buyers are still that ignorant(thought they find few often) and behave as if you are in the Soviet era of blanket cover.

It is even heartening to see people making RC a refuge for ones who doesn't get in to Golf, pulling the evil things of that that sport (??) into this hobby. Showoff, Pretense, helping without that selflessness, and some times even jealousy and opportunism.

I agree Ujjwal, RC hobby is more accessible, just because of LHSs.

And this is also true, concealment of knowledge, facts is no more possible. So more and more Students are entering into this hobby scene now. And with out them no hobby can survive. I have encountered many such Kids with heaps of engry and enthusiasm, but lack of fund or their dependence on parents for funds, leave aside credit cards, they hardly have bank accounts. LHSs comes in picture here.

Take my example, I my self got heaps of help from a "Good Guy" at LHS here in Bangalore, I am so indebted to him. I know how my previous attempts are crushed down by other LHS couple of years back. Do also remember, no business can survive or
grow without profits, take a look at Gov. cos, how they ran into trouble, with social causes in their mind.

The record of Hobby King has been better than many other Hobby shops around the nook and corner of the world. I usually takes packages average of 3 weeks since dispatch from Hobby King to reaching India. The best case is 2 week and worst being 4 weeks. Be vigil as the customs may hold the package for it being BIG. Since it is a Foam plane, convincing them won't be a big hassle.

oh and I forgot to mention one more thing, HK has given me an Incorrect tracking number !!!
I told customer service about this...and they are absolutely useless....they are telling me to try again and if it doesnt work to contact them again !!

because when i tried it using hongkong post's website and tried 'mail tracking'  , it didnt work for me.

Ok So now you can keep an eye on the ips webtracking page.
But its sometimes very late in updation.

Keep your fingers crossed Samanth (hope I am spelling right ;)), you will be able to track it in a day or two.

And be prepared to wait for 3 to four weeks. I know what waiting means when you are ordering for first time.

Yes, this plane is quite big, the wingspan is 1800mm and the Fuselage length 1150mm.
But the dry weight is 800g.The wing is actually a 2-piece wing. I dont think the outer box will be big.
And I have seen most of the pics of this plane and read almost all the reviews.
I've done my homework and bought this plane :)

you would never believe how much a cardboard box can weigh, an ARF easystar weights ~500 grams taken out of the box. How ever the complete sealed in original box weights more than 3 kg. easy glider weights ~700 grams, but NIB package weights more than 4 kg  :o

yes, thats also true.

it is not the physical wieght that counts while shipping large boxes like kits by airmail. It is the volumetric charge. why don't you take an empty ARF box, put 700 g of rubbish in it and find out the postage by airmail or DHL.
it will cost you at least 1500-2000 Rs. to hong kong.

Hobby King Style of inflating prices

Was noticing this for a while that HK repeatedly put an item in BK (backorder) and puts the same item as a new one as  jack up the price.

I also noticed that HK has a major price difference between its Turnigy and Zippy lipos, even though both of these lipo brands are manufactured in the SAME factory by Hextronik Ltd.
The price difference between the same exact lipos , but different brand name is about $24.00 !!  :-\

Turnigy and Zippy batteries have different quality, even thought they come out of same factory. the dirt (?) cheap B-grade lipos also coem from same factory. Its all about Quality Assurance, and believe, it matters the most!

You have to wait patiently  Samanth you will get the letter. Time depends on the work load at customs..which is always quite heavy.

I had placed an order on March 23, 2011 which was received in India on 4th April. Since then, it is pending customs inspection. Upon talking to them over the phone, I was informed that some custom officers are on leave and hence the work load has increased tremendously on the remaining lean staff that they have. It will be appraised soon and send accordingly.

I believe, even your parcel will be in queue. Hence, it is advised to wait and watch, you should get your parcel soon.

i remove stuff and slide into the nearest lower slab 8-) my orders rarely reach the 500 grams slab. i used to add stuff before and ended up collecting lots of stuff that i dont need, some items are still in their original packing. if i would have continued doing that i'd have becam an LHS by now  :giggle:

I would split the cart in three or two orders, and wait for the first order to get dispatched from Hongkong before placing my second order. This is not required but gives me some piece of mind. Plus i like receiving those brown boxes, the more the merrier  ;D

If u r ordering radio means don't add anything to tat parcel..This policy may clear ur parcel..

i hate these customs .They will neither open good hobby stores nor allow shipment .Then wat should the people do , run away from india uh

The customs are just doing their job.
You shouldn't have ordered in this month because most of the officers at Mumbai customs are on Leave....so the remaining few custom officers have to check a Large amount of packages....
And for the record, I have been waiting for 9 days since my package from HK got stuck up at mumbai customs.

i think the duty amount will be max of rs 700..

If you have declared 30% of $155 then there should not be any custom duty.

I JUST got a letter from Bangalore Customs.
Its simple, they are telling me to show them the invoice of the item.
I'll do it ASAP.

The IEC Code # is NOT required if you have bought/shipped it in your personal name.  Neither are you claiming duty exemption . Submit the first 2 docs. along with a letter explaining why the third is not applicable.

$45 for a package so big and as many items!! This is the reason Customs sent you a Memo. Never take them for fools. If you try to over do the under invoicing, its trouble again. Now you cannot say it is $155. and then justifying $45 for so many items is again very tricky. The worst part is it contains a Radio!! The guys at Bangalore customs very well now what it is. You have to describe every item now in your declaration. including the Radio.
If you are a student, carry your college ID and try to convince saying it is for academic project.

Man I raised the request in the afternoon. Its not even assigned to anybody yet though i see lot of names in the customer care centre. If customer care is online they would do it in minutes. Yes I have also did it lot of times but through customer care and this is my first time raising a request.

I think it took more than 24 hours for me to get initial response.

I have had some luck getting my parcel status from mumbai foreign post (mumbaiforeignpost@yahoo.co.in). Out of 30 odd parcels, i have had to contact them only once when my parcel didn't come for around 37 days :)

globalmilind I also have my battery parcel with the same status on the same dates. Wait till monday for an update on the ipsweb and probably by 30th we will get our parcels.

This swiss post seems to reach me faster. Here is the tracking of one of my previous parcel. But it reached india within 2 days. I am not sure why this one is taking more time

If anyone thinks that hk is taking too much time to just process ur order then just do one thing .use the live chat and chat with them 5-6 times a day and trouble them like hell. I did the same thing and now my parcel is doing a lot faster

I have still not received an email from HK confirming the order placement and payment. Should I be worried about this or is this normal ?

I am sure its an already answered question  8-) . but here it goes. Normaly it takes about 3 weeks min from the time of shipping, same here. the tracking started on 7th but the parcel was shipped 4 days before that and reached me on 21st.

It is an air parcel and on hobby king's site it is written the it will be delivered in 21 days. But the time limit is exceeded.

Prateek - Please do not post the same thing in multiple threads.  I have split your posts back in your original thread.

If people did not respond to earlier "please" requests, it is because you are being impatient (and sorry for saying it as it is).  You can see many threads here giving the same advice, be patient, and wait for the letter from customs.  Most people do nothing for about a month.  Jumping in would cause you more trouble than doing nothing, is what the history here seems to teach.

I have received a parcel from HK, this morning. Majority of items from this parcel are missing, have any body had similar experience, with  HK parcels.

post man is known fellow, never had problem with him.

Parcel itself is very poorly packed.

The first thing is to take many pictures of the package BEFORE you open it. 

only pic of packaging is not important. when ever you receive the parcel... weight it and record it. open the box and take the pictures of internal only without removing the air poly bags.. then remove and check the items AND TAKE PICTURES as clear as possible. if anything missing....report it to hobbyking....next will be your luck...
AND LUCK PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE BETWEEN HK AND INDIA

Yesterday I received a Parcel from HK which was though nicely packed but the main flap was held by just a single strip of packing tape across and not along the length and since the outer card board shell was crushed partially, one could put two fingers inside the sides of the main flap and could easily pull out a small items in small packets.

Though nothing was missing I was wondering items like gold 3mm bullet connectors could have fallen down or could have been taken out.

I am thinking of giving a feedback to hobbyking to seal parcel along the length of the flap to prevent tamper, since still lot is desirable in the performance of Indian Postal service.

Till date I have lost a Dremel 300 sent to me through Registered India Post, One Canada Post Parcel from Plantraco is still on the way for last two months. waiting for the three months barrier, But never lost a HK Parcel.

Oh, so it's not just me who has encountered this. Had been thru the same situation, mentioned this in the product feedback. Luckily even I didn't lose anything though there were small items

I think most (if not all) of it happens locally. The packages we receive here in Qatar (about 40 so far for me alone, about the same number for my brother and more for others), and the packages arrive in decent shape.

Yes luck plays a important role for these loosely packed HK parcels.

I dont think the postman is responsible for this...ask hobbyking for a refund , or else open a dispute via Paypal

Or is it 'cos they wanna reduce packing weight(by using not so good quality paking stuff) to cut down shipping weight? I ask this 'cos I felt that the packing material used was rather cheap for the stuff I ordered. The bubble wrap was dandy, but the box was frail and decaying  :P

I have only purchased once from HK and compare it with other RC joints while I was in the US. So it maybe that I just got a bad box. You folks would know better.

Frankly speaking, I was rather surprised that I didn't lose anything I ordered from the box, after seeing the dilapidated package. My mother had received the package for me and on seeing it advised me not to buy stuff from such sellers. Evidently, she didn't like the aesthetics  ;D

Any Global Debit card can be used for payment. I use my BOI & Kotak Debit cards for payment on HK.

They won't update once the parcel leaves Hong Kong. And I think HK Post is even better!

Yup I agree with Global Milind on the above. Mine which was bagged for delivery, status on 31 May 2011. Status has still not changed in IPS Web Tracking online till date but the package reached today. It was 1.5 Cuft by volume.

Got reply from Hobby King this morning regarding my missing items in the parcel. They refused to own up responsibility for missing items in the parcel. This is a warning to all the members here, as this can happen to any body.

1. I found the package in which the material sent by this Chinese supplier is inappropriate, as many users have verified this fact on this thread.There are always chances of loosing items out of it. Don't wait for the day your luck runs out.

2. Calculate your final landing cost of order, and think twice if they are really cheapest, remember my initial days on this forum, many member opposed my thoughts of seeking for other options also, As far as I know there are other Chinese and Singapore suppliers with similar products as HK with competitive pricing and reasonable postage and shipping charges. So do not order blindly seeing prices what are displayed on their web site always calculate final price after shipping.

3. I found quality of many of their items as crap, my couple of Turnigy  batteries puffed badly and holding on charge, after using them for couple of flying sessions. so think it again are they really cheap for quality they are supplying.

4. As many of the members have pointed out on this forum issues of delays in getting their parcel tracked, even after getting track nos from HK. This goes above my head that how come items are un traceable after getting track nos. their should be some thing fishy with this.

Keeping all these things in mind I suppose many of the members would agree with me, that it makes sense to explore other options and calculate final costs vise-a-vise quality, before ordering from HK.
  For all the orders I have placed with hobby king, I think if I might have bought all that from LHS, it should have worked out cheaper for me.
I shall certainly think many-many times before I buy any of the HK products, even sold by Local HK shadows.

Oh I was about to update how good hk is. I cancelled my ordered twice as I dint review my cart before ordering, and all points got accumulated as bonus points. Then I created a new cart to order with my bonus points, to my surprise bonus points cant be used to compensate the shipping cost.
I contacted online cust care, and they told they would refund my money so that I could reorder.

My history shows I have ordered for around 500$ till now but never a single item was missing.

1. Yes their packaging is poor.  >:(
2. I have calculated final price for many products and they are still cheaper on HK including shipping than other online stores. Also HK items are mostly quality items.  :)
3. Quality of batteries are not very good as they say u get what u pay for. :( But their nanotech batteries are by far the best available anywhere.  :) Look at the prices of other online stores for even normal LIPO. :banghead:
4.Tracking system definitely is very poor and needs to be taken care of by India post. :banghead:

I agree with u on most points but for your grievance kindly raise a dispute through paypal if u paid by them. I also suggest all the members to use Paypal for all online purchases as it keeps ur money safe in most cases.

I have repeatedly ask HK to provide more shipping options like DHL, UPS, Fedex etc to be included but they have not done anything regarding my request. I hope if all of their India customers stop buying until they introduce a reliable shipping option they will definitely listen.
