This material is not Depron or Biofoam. It's Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) which is tough, light , flexible foam ideal for constructing Electric 3D aircraft.

Wow!! thats indeed a great great news.  Foam Sultans like Ashta would be rejoicing this evening! Now i have good reason to build the Hot wire foam cutter - the EPO/EPP in my AXN Floater really impressed me!!

Kindly put the rates for members benefit! Where can we pic them up in Bangalore ?
Would you be able to provide thicker sheets like 20-30mm ? I would love to hot wire carve the entire Semi-Symm aerofoil for wing from thicker sheets! Sick of heat forming/KFM foil with Depron!

We are trying to find out suitable courier agency who can ship this material anywhere in India. The main concern is the size of the sheet is bigger.

Thats a good point put forward by Ramesh sir. Having seen so many kinds of foams, it would be great if EEPIndia put a closeup shot (Macro) and g/m*m*m (Density) of the foam so that people here may assess if the foam suffice our need.

not possibe to assess by images, u might as will be looking at the standard thermocole sheets u get in stationary stores for kids projects. It is only when u bend it totally and it does not break will u be able to make out the difference, if i put the two pieces in front of u, u will not be able to tell the difference. Have started replacing all my biofoem planes with EPP which i had imported at huge cost. but worth it, they will outlive me for sure.

u dont need nicrome or any hot wire to cut it. just buy a paper cutter with a brand new blade. and it cuts like going through butter.

I've already bought a cutter with blades to cut coro sheets..so I think I can use tat..can we build trainer planes using this EPP?

but hotwire allows precise cutting of the airfoil.. will b building my own 4A 12v hot wire cutter soon..

I too thought of asking abt the airfoil..so medicineman do u have any guide to build our own hot wire cutter?

actually, EEP is good for planes upto 35 in span, basically electric. so if u want to make a elect trainer with 35 in span, high winger, go head. there is no limit in rc world. but still, i would recomment, the best trainer is a .46 size nitro.

if u want to make wings that have a aerofoil section, then u will need hot wire, and u will also need EEP that is at least 3 or 4 or 5 in thick, for u to be able to cut our the required shape. The 5,9 or 12 mm sheets r for Flatouts. However, u could make some ribs, with upper and lower spar, and a light leading edge, of balse and use a 3mm sheet as covering, and just stick the two sheets like a sandwitch at the trainling edge, and use EEP sheet for ailerons, and use EPP to make the body also.

I've not built one as yet but then in school we used to build simple thermocol cutters for fun using a battery n some wire.. Here is what i'm going to build.. A 12v 4A transformer with a high wattage fan dimmer (connected to mains) across the primary and guitar/nichrome wire across the secondary.. Wire will be mounted on a bow with a simple hinge mechanism and spring to maintain tension.. Will post online once i build it..



I already have a .46 trainer ready  ;D just require fuel n a instructor..   :banghead:

Yes yes.. EPP India can you please post the rates according to the thickness.. Also how much will each sheet weigh so we can calculate shipping..

Any thickness of sheet is available starting from 5mm.

Weight of 9mm thickness of standard size sheet comes to 180gms, so you can calculate the rest.

The standard size is 600mm x 1000mm, thickness 9mm. If you need any customised sizes,pls write to us at EppIndia@gmail.com .

Nichrome wire is available for Rs30/- per metre.

As mentioned by Ramesh, A hobby knife is very good option to cut the sheets as per your required template. But it is better to have a Hot wire foam cutter too in case you need to cut the foam to the required airfoil sizes.

Here is how you can make a template and place it on the Epp sheet and cut it with a hobby knife. The Epp sheet is 600mm x 1000mm and for eg.. Super Slo 28 template is placed showing enough foam available to make one more smaller plane.

Sir, i have never see EPP foam.. Is it the type that medical equipment comes packed in? i.e. the packing is shaped of foam which is glued together in layers and is sort of shiny pearly white..

no, u would not have seen it anywhere, cause it does not some here, i am aware of the packing materal. but seeing the video put up by eepindia.com  they have the correct stuf, and unless u hold it and feel it, it cannot be described. but u will have to put a carbon fibre tube in the wing to give it the required stuffness

yes, u can use 5mm for sheeting wings. not a problem, and u could also use it for ribs, but would be better to use 8mm for ribs as there would be fewer and 8mm would be steadier.

I too an aeromodeller and for past 10 years Iam into this. Iam importing this material from abroad.The intention of introducing Epp foam is to make this easily available in India at a reasonable price.

As you can see, a 3D RC plane can be built within Rs 500/- ( excluding the cost of electronics ) which is well within the reach of most of us. And moreover this material is suitable for everyone as it is very tough, un-breakable and flexible. Ideal for making electric planes which can be flown in small fields.

It is my dream to introduce aeromodelling at cheaper prices to as many as possible.

Ok, feedback from my side is this. Ordered the item (3 x 5mm sheets) and got the material as promised. Packing is good. Though I picked it up later (on the way to work), the consigment was clean and no damages. Keeping it the same way till I start using it for a build.

Material is good and nice to have such close-to-home vendors :-)

Just wondering is EPP different than Biofoam? wat is d diff?

Bio foam in very similar to depron and breaks easily compared to EPP. EPP does not break easily, but not as sturdy(flexes a bit easily) as bio foam.

Ravi was kind enough to let me have a small sample of EPP foam. Man, it is AWESOME!!!  (:|~
At first glance, it looks exactly like thermocole with the same granular structure. However, the resemblance ends there. It has a waxy feel to it and is very flexible. Seems virtually unbreakable.

Perhaps a model could survive unscathed after a nose landing at a moderately high speed. How do I get it into Guwahati without burning a hole in my pocket? Aye, there's the rub! :banghead:

Has anyone made a flying model using these EPP ? All the time I was thinking its EPO like ones in AXN Floater. Always wanted to get rid of KFMx aero foil and carve a solid wing out of sturdy EPO.

How things go with EPP ? How you reinforce the wing made of EPP ? Putting a CF rods along the length is fine but how about the strength along the chord length ? I fear the drag at the leading edge deforming the aero foil unevenly,.

EPO, EPP, XPS etc what is the difference? can anyone post some closeup shots of each for dummies like myself?

  Well I guess this foam material can build a good unbreakable model.
I always wanted to build a model using EPP...But never ever got to it cause for the want of EPP foam.I could not source it anywhere in Mumbai....Now Raju comes to the aid...
But looking at the shipping charges...Quite high indeed!!!more or equal to a single 5mm foam of EPP.
   I was wondering as EPP foam is quite flexible....Could'nt it just be rolled up so the volumetric weight could become less???
  Please help raju....is it not possible to roll up  5mm EPP foam  ???

Yeah, That's an excellent idea!!

I just checked rolling 5mm sheet. I could roll it without breaking the epp sheet and it was back to its original shape once I unrolled it.
Give me sometime, I'll check with the courier guy and let you know the courier charges.
btw if someone is coming to Bangalore , they can directly collect it from me.

Update : The courier cost of two 6mm sheets to Mumbai will be Rs 325/-. This is without rolling the sheets.
Rolling the sheets and couriering in a box is coming to around Rs.600/-

beware, unless packed in a sturdy box, the rolled sheets will be flattened.

Hey!! My idea of having a rolled foam sheet delivery was for cost effectivness of transport charges.....But It looks to have back fired ;)Howzzzzzaat!!!
  Now my best bet is to travel to Bangalore, myself.....Maybe next month when I am in Goa,Iwill make a trip to Bangalore and bring home some EPP.

I bought the kit from Flying wings in UK.... Normally I would trace and keep plans but this EPP is better bought as kits hence I did not think of keeping it. I will post the link soon...
If you want, I can roughly draw around the plane or post more images if it helps... but for what it costs, the base kit without accessories is very cheap.

This is 3mm Depron box fuselage. Inside fas been strengthened by "SCRIMTAPE" and painted on by diluted PVA glue/Fevicol.
Outside covering is packaging tape.

Well done Raj... Let me know your email, I will put you in touch with another guy like you who has brought prices of EPP electric planes right down to the ground as he is selling core kits only with or without carbon rods. Kit accessory packs containing horns and wires etc are made of lazer cut very thin ply and are available seperately.
Most of us aeromodellors have two or three set-ups lying around so one can shift all the bits into a new core kit thus getting a brand new plane....

you sure EPP is available? there have been other threads where EPP was advertised but it turned out to be EPE.

I have not contacted them as yet so i'm not sure if it is epp, i dropped the idea of using epp because my fpv kit was too bulky so i moved on to nitro powered balsa plane  :thumbsup:

This is one made with EPP India foam. Found the foam flexible in comparison to others, four GF rods for the fuse and single 4mm CF tubes are reinforcements which has made it almost indestructible.

Foam was found to be porus drinks thin CA. Good idea to use thick CA, dentrite, hotglue, araldite.

What is the difference between epp and "pp" foam? I found pp foam in abundance here in kolkata. Tough but very flexible.(i think 1mm sheets of this is used in those CD pouches)

I think CD/DVD pouches come in PU foam....

The foam I am talking about goes by the pp moniker in the local markets. It is also used as padding in cushions and bags. I will obtain a sample and post a macro shot of it. But I fear it is too flexible for rc use.

HD foam is  specially made  foam sheets of 30kg/Cu.m we get made .
Regular Thermocole is around 10 -12 Kg/Cu. m

I wanted EPP sheets and Mushtaq Fozan(owner of ABDULLATIF HABIBBHOY AND SONS)
has got in reach with an EPP supplier, sheets size is 10mm and he will be ordering 100MM sheets which can be then cut to either 5mm or 10mm based on the requirement of size.Sizes like 3mm,6mm and 9mm are also possible but only if requirement for these sizes is big. ;D

Problem is that a bulk order needs to be placed and so he requires at least 20 buyers for the sheets.
The colour of sheets is black and Cost of 5mm sheet is Rs.1000.

But if bought in bulk it will reduce, so if you are interested in buying 5mm or 10mm EPP

I suggest you stick to white EPP as you will find painting black sheets is a pain and you will regret buying the black ones.... I bought charcoal Depron sheets and ended up buying white ones again.
Why not stick to someone who holds stock already; rc4all.....?
