Title: Importer Export Code (IEC) for import from aliexpress.
Post by: nchandra on July 29, 2014, 06:02:56 PM
Does any body know how to get Importer Export Code(IEC) for a individual.

I had order some parts from aliexpress but seller is not shipping as he require IEC. Seller is adamant that it can only ship if IEC is provided. It is $140 order and I had not required IEC even for $300+ import but this time i am not sure.

Is this newly put as mandatory? Had anybody got this code and what is the procedure to get this. And moreover can i as individual will be able to get this code?

I have IEC as i am importing from last 2 years. The job is very easy and faster if you do it via agent.

I tried to do it manually via online application but did not receive any confirmation for 3 months and when i did it via agent i got the iec number in 2 weeks

IEC is like an ID for you. As per law if you regularly import/export then you need to have an IEC number.

All goods that comes in India or goes out of India, the value of these goods would be linked to your IEC

Initially i used to import without IEC but after like a year import, frequency was increased and then fedex started to ask for IEC and they said that if i dont have iec it would create problem down the line.

when i had tried to create it online it ask about firm/company details. What is assume is even though individual can create IEC but they have to be under some company. Is it correct ?

@Satya: when you created IEC had you give your company details?

I think that you should cancel that order and ask for a refund and then buy from some other website , because getting a IEC would be difficult for you , but you can still try .

As pointed by kumaran.

I am using IEC 0100000053 :   Persons / Institutions / Hospitals importing or exporting goods for personnel use, not connected with  trade or manufacture or agriculture.

Hopefully it will be ok but I am just keeping my finger crossed. Since its DHL there should not much hustle if something unexpected happened other than some more than expected custom penalty.

If you have not used DHL before, for customs clearance you MAY need to upload some documents. See the link below

Since its DHL

I had used DHL on multiple occasions in past successfully but never submitted KYC. Is it required because for use of IEC ?
