Recently while searching around on Flipkart I came across the toys section and to my surprise saw a buggy..... a proper hobby grade r/c buggy.So I kept searching and saw some more things like- Parkzone pnp models, helis,Buggys and all Hobby Grade!
The best option is COD which satisfies a customer a lot and a very quick delivery period!

This a good competition for the current sellers and maybe a very good option for the buyers who look for a big named company..... but the only problem is high cost, sometimes even that does not matter if you get a quality item!

The line between genuine RC products and these toy kind of products is a bit blurred .
These kind of products have been around most toy stores for  a couple of years  as I know it .
Such stuff is available at most Toy stores like recently I visited Hamley's and express avenue  and Odessey and found these kind of toys all over the place from Burma Bazar or Chandni Chowk to Malls so nothing new really .

Everything looks fine except their limited specifications.

As I said the line is a bit blurred I don't know if I would really term Park zone as true RC it is like any nine eagles RTF .
I agree it is from a RC Hobby company but is it true genuine RC products or is it on the border line between toys and RC Products ?
Interpretations could be different .
I will have my point of view and others could differ on that but one thing for sure it will always be debatable

Flipkart. Had a lot of respect for this company. My family ordered many books which arrived COD and all was well, till a fortnight ago. Daughter ordered a book for Rs.245/-. Book reached, I told the delivery person that I had no change and gave him a Rs.500/- note. He put note inside his bag and requested me for Rs.5/- in change so that he could return Rs.260/- to me. I went inside the house to look for a 5 coin. Got it and gave it to him. He gave me the book and Rs.260/- and then asked for the Rs.500/- note! I told him that I had already given it to him and he denied it completely, "Sir you've just given me Rs.5/- so far." I was forced to give him another 500 note to avoid an ugly situation.

Have called up their Customer Service numbers and lodged 3 complaints. Each time their response has been, "We will get back to you within 24 hours." No one's got back. I have given up. Beware guys.

I've ordered quite a few items too - books , movies etc....

Each time they've sent thru EMS - is Guwahati different ?

They have their own office and own delivery agents, in Flipkart livery, in Guwahati.

Thats the Desi business house style of treating Customers as 'Dog' (instead fof God). Flipkart's USP of prices have significantly tumbled in the recent past. I doubt that any single Desi E-Comm site would become Amazon/BestBuy of India due to complete lack of Business Ethics beyond their 'Incubation' period. Even I was troubled with Myntra.com  only on my second order.

I totally agree with Sai that such More-Toys-Than-Serious-RC  items are being sold for over 6 years now in toy stores, and would come under toys only. A serious flyer would make them as their Kid's first model at its best.

The Associated is just a Chassis and some sway bars, Rest of the cars apart from Maisto and Nikko are all knockoffs.

Also saw some RPM arms.

if its a  real  Trex..... i think we should not miss the deal...... order and if not  what we expected  return it back....

i  have placed an order for  the above heli..... ( Y do  i take such unwanted risks :banghead:).

for simple reasons:
1> if the price  is the same and the heli delivered  is  the one in the pic...... boom... i have a  jackpot :giggle:

2>  if they ask for additional  amount i dont pay and send it back to the seller ( i just love COD  :bow:)

3> if the dimensions shown  on the site  are  correct then i have a ultra micro  heli..... boom... another jackpot  :giggle:

4> if there is slightest difference(in dimensions or the pic)  and i am not happy  i can  always say its not as mentioned on the site and get a refund.....

In the quotes below is one of my many letter to them about including RC item in their inventory. I believe they already have a small management team working on this and regularly visit RcIndia. So if they start selling RC then I'm gonna go ahead and take full credit :P
 

Has any one recieved the "Align T rex" ?

this is very tempting and since its month end i have trouble finding almost 1400/-  :'(

I spoke with their Customer Support Executive who transferred my call to their Sales Support Team. I queried the Align T Rex and wanted to know what exactly it was. They called me back after two hours to say that it was a "battery operated, radio controlled Helicopter." I then queried if the picture was of the actual product and what was the size of the Helicopter. "I will check all details and get back to you within some time." Still waiting for the call...........

Vc sir, any updates on that? Morning i ordered it, then cancelled it thinking i would end up with a sticker ;D  . . If it is really what is there in the picture then voila !!! Jackpot !

I think you guys need a dose of cold reality here - there is absolutely no way
that you are going to get an Align TRex for that kind of money.

Have you even compared the price before virtually advertising these items ? They have virtually NO details/description. So, there are chances that you may get a completely different thing than what you expect! Like the T-Rex heli, which most jumped to conclusion to be a 450 class one!!!

Flipcart's Toy store specially the radio controlled Items is looking like in a very nascent stage. If the product description is missing from the product page than for sure their support representatives also do not know about these products. Most RC items (Helis and parts) they have described in Height, Length and Width. But Flipcart is a no nonsense player in online shopping, they add categories one by one, last they added Personal Care products about 2-3 months back and now that store looked like in a mature stage.

BTW I have seen Syma helis also there.

Only a few months ago personal health care was just a section with shavers, trimmers, thermometers etc. just bunched together randomly without any proper description or any classification. Now if you look at that section, it has many more products but properly organised in categories with proper descriptions and reviews.

I think the price on a lot of the proper rc stuff(what ever they have) is nearly double or more of what LHS are selling right now.

I got the follow up call from Flipkart and its confirmed the Heli is Align Trex 100...and it will not have the batteries. I asked about the transmitter but the guy who called me had no clue about.

He said, they have to contact the manufacturer directly when some one asks them question !

You should have mentioned remote and not transmitter..anyways if he is saying without batteries I suppose they mean remote batteries..if as per current ir  helies..heli lipo is integrated into the circuit and comes pre soldered

I asked "Remote control" and he wasnt sure...anyways I am also waiting for update. I almost bought it today...but then I have been flying small helicopters...my next stop is 6CH...so saving each rupee towards that.

Yes. Almost double. And you can no longer count on these 'Reputed' Desi online stores. I have heard all stories about them and have had rather unpleasant experience with Myntra.
So till they settle things down and develop rapport, its better NOT to shop from them. They are known to fast to deliver, but too slow to process returns and refunds (if at all)

I got a call from the same Mr. Aman, of Flipkart, who confirmed that the package included a Transmitter and 4 Zinc Carbon batteries for the 'Transmitter / Remote'.

On the second thought...there is one question coming to mind is

Entering big players like flipcart, junglee, yebhi, wohbhi into niche markets like RC is good / sustainable move? because these niche markets needs specialised technical know how and a feel for the products and hobby, will they be able to deliver it?

Extremely unlikely, in my opinion. But they may well have enough sales for the uninitiated and/or toy
markets to survive with some filtering of the product range.

I am really impressed with the small Tx ! I recently returned from Lahul-Spiti valley( bike ride cut short - planned to cover Leh)... Wish to go to the valley in a SUV with my FPV gear and fly planes around the Snow peaks... such a handy Tx would be a great boon

You all on this forum knows that a TRex 100 will cost how much and you'll also know what is a TRex 100 as a product.  Had this been sold by Hobby King We could have sued them because they are experts of the product they are selling.

Flipkart is a general online retail and RC Toys is a new category added. T Rex 100 is a sepcialized product which their buying team migh have confused with some other product.I am 100% sure , that they never did this to cheat or for a fraud but happened due to ignorance/oversight.

So General understanding says if someone is selling a New TRax 100 in Rs 1475, than it cant be true, but to take the advantage of possible mistake/ignorance by FLIPKART many of use booked it.


Now when its reveled that it was an ignorance from their end and they have clarified it, than why so much of hue and cry and for what ? No where in this world you will get a T Rex 100 in 1475 Rs.   :thumbsup:

Great thought. Let everybody post whatever pictures they like and sell whatever they like. Why so much 'hue and cry'? You must be joking! It is this laid back attitude amongst us buyers that has allowed these web retailers to do as they like. See what is happening on Ebay. 'Authentic' and 'Genuine' Tissot watches are being sold for Rs.5000/-.

Maybe they need to appoint someone who actually knows what RC parts are and then upload the products matching them with correct descriptions. Being in the Online retailing, happens with me all the time.  I do not mean at all that what they are doing is correct, unethical selling.. My thought is more of a reason why this is happening at their end. No offense to anyone.

I am a Management Consultant by profession and decide that I want to sell Rice on the internet. By your logic, it is not my domain knowledge. So while people appreciate my Training Workshops, I also sell them Genuine 100% Pure Basmati Rice @ Rs.15/- per kg. What you get is the cheapest rice in the market. I'm sure you would let that pass as it is not my 'specialised product'.

Sir, Chalta hai attitude is the biggest hurdle in progress, leave Flipkart behind who has a 'chalta hai attitude' .....We have no choice but to progress ahead, fighting with such an attitude bearer will also turn us like them. Bottom line is Flipkart is one good thing that has happened to online retail in India after a long time. Even if someone has bought the helli/part, i'm sure they can easily return it (i believe they have a pickup service also) and get their money back. Yep I'm a fanboy  ;D

I have bought numerous books and stuff from them and never had any issue with them. Flipcart is definitely the flagship holder in India in online buying experience.

Sunlikestar, I beg your pardon but I don't share your enthusiastic optimism. I too have been a Flipkart customer and have purchased numerous books from them. All, excepting the last one, reached me without any hassles.

However, having been cheated once in the month of June and being very close to being duped again in July is a bit much - don't you think? I would rate Ebay as a far higher online retail portal with my 7 years of experience there.

If this Organisation can misrepresent one item, then they can do it with the others. Had this 'misrepresentation' occurred in the Western world, the Organisation would have been bled dry in lawsuits and settlements.

However, this is India and instead of standing united, we are bickering with each other, exhibiting a condescending attitude of 'choro yaar, ki farak painda - chalta hai' and heaping meaningless accolades on the erring party!

Maybe the other LHS in India deserve a better treatment at our hands when we turn blue in the face and shout ourselves hoarse and point accusing fingers at them if an allen key or a set of push rods or a deans plug connector doesn't arrive in the ARF / RTF package.

Frustrating, to say the least.

Friends, I got a call just now from Mr.Sagar from flipkart against my inquiry and he confirmed that everything (minus the AA batteries and charger) are included in the pack... He even told me that its a genuine Align product - the T-Rex 100..
I informed him that the original price is about USD 130 including the transmitter - to this he reiterated that its a genuine Align product and would be imported once I confirm my order...

but in case i did not get what i wanted i could have asked  for a refund... and if that did not workout well.... LAW suits always did help the costumers.. (specially when the seller is a registered indian company)

I understand that $30 (or less than that) advertised by Flipkart sounds wrong, but then so does $130 instead.

Anwar Sir, I got the price from Align's website... USD 60 for the heli and USD 63 for the Tx (rounded to USD 130 rather than quoting the exact amount of USD 123), assuming that Tx would not be sold at the price point that flipkart has offered.. But today their CSR told me the unthinkable that Tx will be included with the heli...!!

I would, at the outset like to point out that, other than incredible (+ve) dealings with "flipkart" (henceforth referred to as FK, for convenience), I have no personal interest in the point/s I would like to make.

1. Why are we putting LHSs and  an extremely large, multi product, online store in the same basket?

2. To clarify the above, i would consider ALL the present LHS to be individually (with passion) driven with a small consumer base, which is relatively easily handled on a "one to one" basis. Yet, you will find, even them, with legitimate grievances on how buyers can be too demanding, and vice-versa.

3. Flipkart is big, beyond the apparent comprehension of many. There is - and cannot be - an "individual" to clarify things/sort out issues , immediately.

4. I DO understand the frustration - more than that, a let down for not getting Au for the price of Cu - but to put things in  perspective, a possible, major error,  may have taken place. I am confident that they will stand by refunds, if so.

Which is more than can be said of some dubious deals that have taken place here.

Not comparing any LHS "passionately driven by an individual" with a FK - just requesting for an impartial treatment in either case. 5 working days, one would presume, is enough time to clarify a single query - "What EXACTLY will I get if I pay Rs. 1462/-?"

This example, I hope is lucid - Let us consider that IF RCBazaar, RCDhamaka or RCforall (my apologies to these respected LHS) were to advertise a Genuine Futaba 14Ch TxRx for the price of a HK V2 Tx/Rx. Once you bought it, you received a Flysky 4 Ch Tx (with a money back guarantee, if not 100% satisfied). Would you be willing to brush it off as "What the hell, it was TGTBT, anyway I got my money back. Let's move on with life." Or will the LHS be dragged backward through a hedgerow of brambles on this very forum?

Will we then remember all the good deals/timely deliveries/discounted rates that we have enjoyed,in the past, from this particular LHS and forgive him for this one folly? I doubt it. I am taking about an equality in our thoughts and actions.

In Bengali, there is a proverb - "In a Bamboo thicket, the jackal is the king", FK should be made to understand that the net savvy denizen of India does NOT live in a bamboo thicket and that the Jackal is NOT the king here. We know exactly what we are paying for. We know exactly what is on offer or what SHOULD BE ON OFFER at WHAT price. You cannot take us for a ride by posting the picture of a Align TRex Sport 450 and then promising an Align TRex 100 and then finally delivering a Brushed motor. We have the power to prosecute and we have portable loyalty!

Somewhere, it looks like I have not been clear. FK has goofed up, and big time, and I have not justified it. I was just trying to get people to understand why it may take some time to resolve. But I am - perhaps misplaced in this - confident it will resolve itself in at worst, a refund, or at best (wishful thinking and unlikey), a real chopper!

And if that does not happen, please rest assured that I would be among the first to support any action to be taken.

+1 VC.... This proves the trend that we blindly worship the unseen 'Virtual' E-Shop and give all benefit of doubts and when things turn evil, hold a friendly LHS by its neck.

If people live in the Fairy Land that the 'Returns' from these Desi e-Shops are as seamless as their Delivery (Like generating RMA# and sending thru courier as in West/US) WAKE UP!!! The process may take month's time and when done, 90% cases you wont get your Card reversal. Instead they would give you a store credit with which you end up buying some shitty thing. It is same like a shop sells Crap item at 3times the price and guarantee 50% money back. He is still making 100% margin.

I am posting just for the benefit of newbies. The Oldtimers should have known similar stories to argue to this length.

But it also brings out a very interesting point are retailers like FK really suited to sell products that need a technological understanding ?
This is not true of On line shops like FK alone , I recently visited Hamley's at Chennai and happened to pass by their science toys section , saw an interesting electronics toy ( HK Origin ) but no where did it say what could be done with it , so did the next best asked the store assistant of how many circuits could be done with it . This guy was totally lost he did not know what it was , don't blame him though , that is when I realized that these shops who sell right from kiddie toys to barbie dolls to rc helis and cars to possibly new born underwears and clothes cannot be expected to know any thing technical about products dealing with science and technology.
For them it is just another box with an MRP which adds to their turn over.

It is we who are in a technical hobby and are supposed to have an understanding of RC Products so the onus is on us to understand this deficiency and take note of it , it is we who ought to know if a price quoted is wrong or right .

But I suppose when a buyer sees a ridiculous price he knows its a gamble so he takes it prepared for it not to work and with cash back he knows he will get a refund so it is a calculated risk on the part of the buyer .

It is for this reason that I fully agree with Ujjwal  that such risks can be taken by informed old timers  but surely not for newbies but unfortunately it is the newbies who will invariably fall into this get disappointed and possibly loose interest in the hobby .

Hence this post to support Ujjwals remarks.

As for the other lot who will get into such buys the only price price price buyers for whom nothing other than price is of consequence they are likely to have gone thru such situations earlier some with refunds some without so they are kind of used to the highs of getting a great deal and the lows of being taken for a ride so nothing to complaint for them

Finally got a call from Flipkart to inform me that it was a bum deal and that they are willing to 'compensate' me (for all my good Samaritan efforts and yadda yadda yadda to help them realise that they had made a mistake yadda yadda yadda). They offered me a Chinese RC heli (I wasn't interested in the details) at a 10% discount  :giggle:.

Good to hear this and its funny that Flipkart tried selling another helicopter instead of sending the refunds right away...and may be some discount coupons to be used later !!!!

If i was the owner of Flipkart I will simply call VC and inform and apologize about the mistake and make arrangements for refund and also may be a discount coupon for "inconveniences" caused... but here they were trying to sell another cheap Chinese RC heli...hahah...they still have to learn customer service ethics !

If it were Best Buy/Comp USA/etc, they would have been Sued by Align by know. Apart from full refund to all customers and free coupons/goodies as compensation. Again as I say:

Wish they open FDI retails so these unethical Desi sweatshops get some real International competition.

Did I mention Infibeam trying to sell Dremel 300 at jacked up MRP tags, and much costlier than open/local prices shop. If they think they have any other USP than managing to give at least 15-25% discount than local prices, they are living in wonder land.  They would perish more faster than they rose, in a over price sensitive market like India.

This is not done. I believe in every Customer Support operations the front guys are entitled to give some percent or amount discount to complaining customers. I have personally experienced it with AirTel and Jaquar.

We are far from seeing a zappos CS culture in India (http://www.zapposinsights.com/). Personally I don't believe it will happen ever.

If we leave aside online shops for a while, I have never seen a regular store with support or buying experience comparable to Western standards. Can you imagine store cleaning staff or porters pushing you around in a US store like they do here in Big Bazaar. I dont know why but I do not expect same quality of service from them.

On the other hand, I can't imagine a Walmart or Costco offering a 6 months "No questions asked Return Policy" in India. It can not work here. I have personally seen many desis in US taking undue advantage of these customer friendly policies.

We cant blame online shops alone for poor customer services. Customer service is a process for them with some SOPs and things are not going to change until the businesses starts taking CS as culture. They have to realize that it is the support that makes all the diffrence and repeat customers is key to them. They can not sustain by buying online ads and bringing traffic to their websites without making repeat customers.

Amit , do you realize that we mostly pay in 'Dollar Equivalent ' and many time twice/thrice for items from Onions to LCD TV  and Lunch Buffet to Nike shoes in India ? Even if we take account for items assembled outside and and duties etc, at least indigenous items should be fairly priced ?? So if the seller still enjoy Fatty Margins of 15-60% , its not a favor that they give CS (Customer Service) in return for the hard earn money we pay.

Today the CS at MNC food chain is better than so called Indegenious Restros. If you find a fly/hair in your Papa Jones Pizza, you can expect a replacement, but not in your Hyderbadi Biryani/Dosa/Vada/Pulav.

Maybe the CS with RC LHS is better in most cases due to close knit community.

There are other factors involved apart from close knit community.

1. RC LHSs process roughly around 100 orders per day with the help of say 3-4 guys. To scale it to 10000 orders / 500 support personnel is a different game altogether.

2. In RC LHSs there are very less products compared to general online shops. RC LHSs have specialised technical know how of the limited products and a feel for the hobby.

3. There is a instant feedback from satisfied and non satisfied buyers on different forums, so they care about their reputation among buyers.

In case of online shops:

1. In online shops support personnel try to increase their number of incidences closed. They get incentives on the number of incidences they have closed (not solved). Mostly they do not care whether a customer is satisfied or not. They get commissions for up selling products.

2. For most of the products they have not used or even touched them, forget about having specialised knowledge, they only know whatever is written about the product in front of their computer screen.

3. There is no feedback from buyers, they own their customer forums and remove whatever they don't like. There is no regulatory body to govern them. No or very few customer forums.


2-3 days back I was in need of a USB thumb drive, so I went to a nearby store and bought a Kensington 16GB for rs. 550. The MRP printed on that was rs. 1500  :o. In Nehru Place (big computers market) I can find the same for about rs. 100 less. So we are talking about 300-350% margins here.

But in case of Flipcart or other online shops just imagine a scenario. I am a small-time entrepreneur without credit card living in a small town of Barabanki (dummy) and I want to read a book "The Da Vinci Method - Break Out & Express Your Fire" by Garret LoPorto. What would I do?

Option 1. Wait for my next visit to nearby Metro city, search for a shop selling this book and buy from there or
Option 2. Go to flipcart or any other online shop selling it cheaper and buy from them using COD.

What would you choose?

Disclosure: [I am not a Flipcart fan-boy but a online shopping experience fan-boy. I work for a business selling services online and after 10 or so years being in this business we totally realised the fact that Customer is supreme, Customer is very clever, you can not take customer for granted if you want to sustain in business, everyone will realise it sooner or later]

It all depends on how you expect others to treat you or what customer service "you / we" expect from the online portals.

Case 1

Barabanki  bhaiya will buy the book from FlipKart, unless he cannot find the book in Barabanki local book shop and that Barabanki has internet connection to login to Flipkart.

But when he realizes that the book is not what he will be getting, but its just few pages of the preface...he tells flipkart guy about the mistake they have made...and the flipkart guy offers him the book GODFATHER with 5%...Barabanki bhaiya unhappy  :'( and says the customer service is bad.

Case 2

Barabanki  bhaiya will buy the book from dedicated book shop (LHS), after asking how many pages in the book and even may be to the shopkeeper that if he himself has read the book :) Barabanki  bhaiya will touch and feel and smell the book before buys and is happy about the "customer service"....and shop keeper is happy that he made some one happy who shares his similar passion...

My point is, the customer is always the king everywhere, but they are not treated like a king by everyone.

Giants like flipkart earn too much money that they do not care or want to invest in monitor customer satisfaction levels and to drive up or train the staff and management to take measures to keep all the customers happy...because they are huge and its nothing for them if few customers hold the grudge against them...

LHS ....are small and passionate and they can only sustain if similar passionate customer come to them and they will make every step to keep them happy.

Its upto us to realize that we are a close knit community of RC enthusiasts and we should only buy from dedicated RC online shops. If flipkart  or anything like that brings an RC product, cheaper than local guys, its our duty to inform local guys about this and still if they cant sell it cheap..then get from the giants...I believe the local dedicated sellers sustain because of us.

I hope what ever I wrote is in the correct context which is about flipkart giving wrong information, then withdrawing the "offer" and cross selling another cheap item.

A book is a BOOK, will remain 360 pages no matter where you buy it. This may be out of context. For me I dont feel the need to touch and feel and smell the book, I dont know if others do. Dont compare apples to oranges. I am talking about a BOOK.

Just to point out, Flipkart doesn't have COD everywhere. Till a couple of months ago, COD in Kolkata was restricted to non-electronic items. Now though I see they have allowed that. And I know a friend in one of the neighboring towns near Kolkata, who tried to buy a book through COD but was unable to do so, as they do not have COD there. However, things might have changed now.
