Title: Shopping from 20North.com
Post by: karthikr_2922 on December 14, 2009, 10:09:01 AM
Hi guys,

Has anyone tried shopping rc cars/trucks from http://www.20north.com. If yes, do you recommend it?
I wanted to buy the red cat racing vortex ss 10th scale truck. Any one here uses redcat products?

Cheers!

And in the interest of beginners, here is another one.

A bit of sorry to the sellers here, but all of us agree that making things easier for beginners is more important, I hope !  BTW, same items may be available cheaper else where !

Anwar ,
No issues we have sold quite few slow sticks and continuing to do so , initially started with the brushed motor version  but  found brushless a much better alternative as a brushed ESC  cost kills the advantage of buying Brushed set up's.

This helps the buyers to know as well that we are in general competitive when compared to stores abroad   ;D

S.C.A.M !!! They are Thieves....  They seem to have Cloned the pages from Amazon/Other big online shop and creating a BIG fraud by offering all the mouth watering items no yet/easily available in India. Just one of the reviews on Mouthshut.com Things which seem too good almost traps. Be careful. Sites/Shops with little or no reviews are better be avoided.

There are indeed few other reliable 'Circle' who can buy for you in US and get the things thru their channel (Some say they are a cartel of onsite people from one of the biggest Indian software firm who use people coming back to India to carry stuff, but who cares if you get your stuff). I found that in JJ Mehta Photography forum. I can get their site  if you need.

What i think it may not be a scam but can't always ship,i.e.,buying from them is like buying using pay for it get it "luck by chance"

so if u get something like 1000%cheap then u may try buying from it lolz.

If you have read the review, the whole story is quite fishy (the number of people talked and continuous evasion). The fact that they seem to offer almost **EVERYTHING** in the world raises quite a bit of suspicion. Rather than relying on such fishy sites, I would would by form on the numerous E-Bay sellers with high scores and try my luck with Indian post/Customs instead.

There has been a very famous story of a phony online Camera Shop in NJ who duped around 100's of customers by offerring unrealistic prices on camera (I nearly saved my a** when I was lured by a $500 offer on a Canon 30D which was for $950 elsewher, thanks to www.resellerratings.com). Police finally busted them and put an end to mass scamsters. But there still many low profile cheats fooling around a bunch of people every week and still trading scottfree.

Thanks for the heads up mate, the same guy in that review mentions he got the product shippped, cud be a one off case. Need to know has anyone bought stuff from here?

The vortex ss costs around 13k here, but the same on ebay costs 18k. This price difference is the origin of my doubts.

One negative review is not the end of the world (even some of the well known LHSes have one or two negative reviews).

And the fact that they list a lot of items is not negative in itself either (Alibaba.com is another such case).  That is probably their strength, that they are able to source a multitude of items.  How they handle packing, shipping and customs is what we need to look at.

I am not sure based on available information if we can come to the conclusion that this is all a scam  :headscratch:

PS: BTW, I don't give a damn about any store, except for the fact they should have a fair deal, like anybody else (whether LHS or individual).

+1anwar bahiya
I also say that if a person has a large variety of things it is scam.
One common example is homeshop18 they also have everything but are not a scam but one of the biggest and vest e-stores
Same is the case the bigbazaar/futurebazaar
SO we willn't these two also scam using this rule

Also in the mouthshut rewiew we can see  positive replies also
So the only way to know whether it is a scam or not is to order something cheap[which if not arrives would make us cry..lolz]

Great ! I was emphasizing that most of the points raise suspicion! Offering so many items it self is like a lure. TV18/Asian Sky Shop could be relied as they put TV ads and are renowned ventures. you can find 1000s of review for Alibaba.com. I was just cautioning people as few of my friends in US have been indeed duped by fraud sites. And even if 20North did finally ship to the guy (I did not see the latest update from the guy), 6 month wait in uncertainty and 6+ calls are better avoidable when reliable E-bay sellers/HC/Towers etc (just received my Laser diode from a reputed e-bay seller in US in flat 7 days, without a single followup!!)

So who is going for the TOFFT ? I mean I would really like see few good review from trusted members!

Believe me, I would be the most   happy person to have such a store here for real! They serve MOST of my hobbies which are starved with resources in the country! Or let me test  the water by just ordering a sub $50 item... Say wat?

Cheer,
Ujjwal

Hey Anwar , the word is TOFTT - "Take One For The Team". Ya.. guinea pig is more common word but does not describe my intent.

The Lava Lamp I have been searching all around Bangalore is Rs 750-3000 on 20Noth. the down part is, the shipping itself is good 900-1600 ($20-30) !! Which is much costlier than me ordering from HK/SG Ebay seller. Lemme find something which is a little cheaper and shipping doesn't cos a bomb...

I can give you a local contact if you want only redcat models. But why Redcat when you have so many established brands in India. Spares will be hard to find for a new brand untill the network is up and running.

Do they handle all customs issues on your behalf ?  If something gets stuck in customs and gets sent back, can you claim a refund ?

This site is basically a rip off for some items for example Traxxas RC cars. The official Traxxas India prices are way cheaper than on the site.

For items not in India, will work for some who dont want to take a risk with customs and stuff.

Nope, I do not prefer buying RC stuff online. I think we already have plenty of options at our disposal, when it comes to EP and GP cars.

Guys, I wanna buy a GP drift car (dont ask me where I am gonna run it for I have a beautiful concrete playground), preferably from HPI. Pls help (Ajo where are u mate  ;D)

90% of my stuff comes online. Prices are cheaper even with 14% customs, but certainly not on sites like 20north. Check Tower, Amain, HobbyCity, RCmart etc.

Well i agree with you. But not all negative reviews should be ignored. For any online shops, they should maintain overall good feedback without more negative reviews like alibaba. According from buyer point, prompt response, on-time delivery, good quality, safe payment and trust, i trust Chinabuye which meet all these main factors involved in online shopping. Maintaining good reviews is equally important.

Well I guess, RC stuff may not be that good on this site but ...I wanna buy a home projector. its about 13k on this. Can anyone help me understand that how can I get it as a gift ?

I need to give a US address to be eligible for the reduced price for a Gift (duty exumption). How does it work ? I can give a US address but do he (US friend) also need to varify my order or its just the address and contact number will work!!!! :headscratch:....
