Tower was the main source for RC stuff for a long long time.  It continues to be, except for exceptions like Hobbycity.

Availability of tracking information depends on what type of shipping you have chosen.

Towers is one of the most reputed names in R/C world. They have immensely vast verity for items, only hidden by their poor site. Just EVERYTHING is good with Towers.

Tracking Depends what Shipping option you chose. Registered / EMS would show up status mostly till it reaches Inland Customs in India (Port entry). Then mostly you might need to follow up with your local FPO (Postage Customs). Few people have report that EMS parcels may even give status if your item is stuck in FPO for clearance.

All the best.

PS: I would suggest people to take their $9 membership, and get $9 off on all shipping there after. Also watch out for their '$250 off mail' which is such a huge saving (if you consider high end premium items like AXI/Great Planes/ OEM Tx/Rx etc). Their Shipment comes faster than average time taken by Hobby King.

I believe the regular USPS airmail shipping ("priority mail") comes with no tracking, it just shows when the item was entered into their system.  No further updates are posted while the item is in transit.  I have had to wait up to 35 days on such items.  In fact Tower does not entertain follow up requests until 40 days are up, if I remember correctly.

This is probably the second most discussed topic here :) In any case, as a welcome note to RC India, here is the recommended path.

1.  Do nothing for about 2 to 3 weeks, and wait to see if you receive a notification from customs about the item being detained, and the notice will ask for some documentation.

2.  Provide that documentation (as much as possible) in mail.  Do NOT visit in person.  You may include a letter with details.  Then WAIT some more.

3.  If that does not work out, you may need to visit personally.  Be prepared to be questioned, even harassed.  You may end up using influence (in person, or in kind ;) ).

I suggest you use the search option, and spend some time reading before taking any steps.  These questions have been asked many times, and there is NO single answer, as the experiences seem to vary.  You can get a fair idea for what to expect and how to approach this from the earlier experiences posted by people (in case my above guidelines seem vague).

hi,

kindly note that there is nothing to worry if parcel is detained by customs. i have been thru this many times. in my case out of 10 parcels, 2 are sure to get detained. all i do is write a letter of request to the Asst. commisioner Customs, city name and mention the items been ordered and request them to kindly release as being ordered for personal hobby use.

Also attached copy of invoice and payment details and xerox copy of photo id and proof of residence.

once submitted the parcel should be with you within a week.

regds

The grilling by Superintendent of PAD has intensified recently. Some one told me that many people in R/C are using this the 'Gift' route for commercial/merchandising instead restricting it for purely personal use.
My 'Thanks' to such people and gratitude to all fellow flyer who would suffer due to this.

To people getting items genuinely for themselves,  please avoid overly under invoicing and ordering just too many flashy items in one go. Accept other's intelligence.

Ujjwaana

Your suggestions re: valuations have been repeated by both of us ad nauseum, but do you think it will make a difference?  It will go on and on, people will get an increase in their post count etc., etc.

I know this will ruffle more than a few feathers but.....

Title: Buying from Towerhobbies.com
Post by: sumitro on February 18, 2012, 09:46:30 AM
Hi
I am planning to buy a HPI bullet ST Flux from towerhobbies.com and need inpust whether to opt for internal airshipment or ups courier for shipping to Calcutta, india. There is a difference of 100usd in the rates between international air and UPS.
What are the problems if i order a normal air shipment apart from the shipment delay. the total price is coming to USD 340- will it also attract customs duty.

Can some share more info.

Regards,

I would suggest you speak to Siddharth (http://www.rcindia.org/profile/?u=536) from Tritech. I believe they sell the Bullet. The prices own't be too far off. You don't have to worry about customs and you'll have some amount of after sale support if you buy it over in India.
